There are reports out of Barbados that immigration officers have been receiving death threats following the alleged abuse and subsequent deportation of Jamaican Shanique Myrie two weeks ago.

The Barbados TODAY newspaper quotes Roslyn Smith, the Assistant General Secretary of the National Union of Public Workers, as saying the union has received reports of threats to immigration officers via telephone calls while on the job.

Miss Smith says some of the officers are now operating in an environment of fear.

She says the situation cannot continue and is calling on the Barbadian authorities to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

The newspaper quoted a source as saying that immigration officers, particularly on the night shift at the Grantley Adams International Airport, have received calls from persons with foreign accents threatening to kill them.

if the incident took place fair enough it was wrong, however Jamacians dont know how to back down it’s their way or no way. Almost everywhere is imposing visa upon them however instead they stay in their yard they will travel anywhere else to get a book ( as they refer to passport ) to beat any visa restriction. Now what is the need for the death threats???? now the bajans n other caricom r nowing about such situation will be on their case. No fault of any one but theirs. yardies dont stop they go on n on n always saying “me r beg u this”.
