Direct air access between the Caribbean region and Mexico was among matters that came up for discussion at the recently concluded Caricom/Mexico summit in Cancun.
Chairman of the Caribbean Community Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said heads discussed the possibility of a further study “as a follow up to what has been done some years ago, about direct air access between the Caribbean and Mexico.
“As you know Mexico is one of the countries in Latin America that have signed several trade agreements and CARICOM has asked for technical assistance from Mexico, with a view to assisting us, as we move along with the negotiation of various trade agreements with several countries that we have to engage,” Skerrit stated further.
Commitments were made “as to how CARICOMand Mexico can join forces to further help Haiti, particularly with regards to the housing of the 1.2 million people who are presently still homeless,” Skerrit said.
i personally think that this is a venture that the Caribbean community should have taken a long time ago. i am aware of at least 200 Caribbean students who are on the verge of completing studies in Mexico , and the opportunities that are present in Mexico that would benefit the Caribbean community in so many ways, especially economically knowing at present that a lot of ties have been made and chances for bilateral relations are possible. so i hope that this would work out
