Citizenship programme critical to St Kitts-Nevis, says PM

The government of St Kitts and Nevis has taken firm steps to address concerns about the citizenship by investment (CBI) programme, which upon assuming office, faced challenges described by prime minister and minister of finance, Dr Timothy Harris, as a “real and present threat to the prosperity agenda for our nation.”

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) noted value of the CBI, which contributes 30 percent of annual revenue to the twin island federation.

“In charting a way forward to comprehensively address the challenges, since assuming office as prime minister, I have spent the first five months building closer links with governments of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF),” he said, while continuing to build relations with international partners in order to bolster the longevity and integrity of the CBI programme.

    I remember the Oppositions first take on that program was that the Government “prostituting Dominica”, and that everybody all over the world can have Dominica passport. Now they realized it is actually a program that many countries including the US are using, they eating their vomit and now they crying transparency.

    Transparency requires the following:
    1.Publish the current list, names and addresses, of ALL Passport Hucksters;
    2.Selling price per passport and sellers commission per passport;
    3.Nationality of each passport purchaser before Dominica’s passport is granted;
    4.Criteria for selecting the current Passport Hucksters ;
    5. Application fees paid by the Passport Hucksters to Government on appointment as a Passport Huckster.
    6 Total revenue earned by Govt. for the sale of these passports for the years 2005-2015

      The only thing they need to reveal is the amount of applications made, those successful and those rejected.

      The official agents are on the CBI website here http://cbiu.gov.dm/citizenship/authorised-agents/

      St Kitts gives the SAME info Dominica currently does. Harris is blowing smoke for the intl community.

      Any country that gets involved with the IMF is not smart. They are wolves in sheeps clothing.

        You are very correct. The only time they get there is if the countries cannot maintain or grow their revenue and failing because of careless and reckless economics/management.
        Now this guy sounds like an intelligent man.

    I really hope our leaders read that piece. That man sounds like a smart man who don’t seems to be greedy and do not want it all for himself. I could go on and on with my comment but it won’t make much of a difference in Dominica since we are so poor and greedy, we won’t see the wrong in what our present government is doing. Hold strong Dominicans who can see the light, things will be better one day.

    Ours (CBI) in Dominica is in a mess. We can’t see any investments to relate too, under this ruling regime, but some people are filthy rich.
    Bad and corrupt leadership is the best route to impoverish people.

    I would like to revisit the years in opposition and recall how this very same Timothy Harris criticized the CBI as a corrupt undertaking. Former Prime Denzel Douglas was said to have an office in Dubai where his girlfriend was selling St kitts passport on his behalf and that was corruption.

    The opposition at that time insisted that they would stop the corrupt programme on assuming office.

    Today I am hearing that the very same programme is critical to St. Kitts and brings in 30% of St kitts revenue. Oh My God. Wasn’t it critical to St. Kitts when Douglas was PM? those hungry for power politicians!! We have some in Dominica??

      Did you read that they have taken firm steps to address concerns about the citizenship by investment (CBI) programme? And building closer links with governments of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, as well as the International Monetary Fund (IMF)?

      It simply means there was an a sense and that the program can or could have been better managed to allow more than 30% revenue?

    Very intelligent and proactive approach towards governance and responsiveness in relation to the issue of economic citizenship. Monica’s prime minister must learn from this leadership approach and willingness to foster progress and respect for the people of Dominica.
