Congratulations poured in from around the Caribbean for the newly elected Dominican-born Commonwealth Secretary General Designate Baroness Patricia Scotland.

Though CARICOM members had been unable to agree on a single candidate for the position and had fielded two: Baroness Scotland and Sir Ronald Saunders, once the announcement was made on Friday, the region rallied around her.

In a congratulatory message, the Guyana-based CARICOM Secretariat welcomed the Baroness’ election, pointing out that she had created history as the first woman to head the organization.

She is also the second Secretary-General to come from the Caribbean Community – the other being Sir Shridath Ramphal of Guyana.

CARICOM Secretary General Irwin LaRocque, said the Community looks forward to working with Baroness Scotland in continuing to strengthen the Commonwealth and in building on the close co-operation between that organisation and CARICOM.

Baroness would You like to straighten out Skeritt because He seem to have a different agenda from You ! First of all please tell Skeritt to get in line with You on the Gay issue. Unless of course He was not telling us His true intention about the Buggery Laws.Secondly please tell Him to get us out of that ALBA thing because they are talking about waging a physical war against Britain,You know the issue with the Shetland islands etc,They also keep referring to the USA as Imperialists.you cannot allow Skeritt to have us as Birds when it suits Him and as bats when it does not .He is a living contradiction and is creating confusion. If He thinks so badly of Britain and the USA He should stop having Children there instead go to Caracas and while He is there get Senor Maduro to hinge the Caribbean Dollar to the Bolivar so we can really see the benefits He talks about so often

Get over it! Y, are your portraying such deceit and lies. Ask Lenox Linton since the election how many times he has been on the streets as lone ranger demonstrating and disrupting a government that was elected by the people. Ask LL how many times he has disrupted the Parliament! Ask LL and his coconspirators how many time they have called PM and cabinets thief and rapist! Is that a corrupted government? They all would be in Stock Farm! Ask LL and crew what was the purpose of the unsuccessful riot in Salisbury! LL tried to leave the island with contraband and was not detained, ask him how many people who were arrested and lose their flight for doing the same. Ask LL how many times he has taken to the airwave and with unfound news about PM. As stated, IMPROVED ANTI-CORRUPTION LAWS ARE NEEDED. EXISTING LAWS MUST BE IMPLEMENTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT. Everybody, including the President and the Speaker must comply with the law. I am saying You are bitter person, and you are spewing filth

Nothing can erase where someone was born; not a passport which was obtained through citizen naturalization.
Some people know nothing and others refuse to accept the fact.
You can put their comments down to ignorance, discrimination and vindictiveness.
We know Baroness Scotland is Dominican-born. I heard about her and her achievements in the UK a long time ago.
Some of my relatives are from St. Joseph. As a student, I spent some of my school vacation there. Through this, I have a soft spot for St. Joseph.
My parents and some of my older relatives would know the Baroness’ parents. I heard they migrated to the UK, in those days when Great Britain opened its doors to Commonwealth citizens.
This may produce a smile or laughter, I would not be surprised if I am related to her.
Tony, to my knowledge is Dominican-born. I knew Tony when I resided in Dominica. He certainly speaks with a Dominican accent.
We should all be proud of them.

Guyana is not in the Caribbean, Guyana is in South America. Stop indoctrinating people with this rubbish!

Guyana is in South America. I worked with a Guyanese woman. She, obviously spoke like a Guyanese. I once asked her if she is from Guyana. She proudly and emphatically stated: I am from South America!” This is the manner most of them want to be regarded as, South Americans..

Thanks our Ms. Scotland on your successful nomination.. Now for the business of the day, Ms.. Monell Williams, you publicly chastised Mrs. Scotland along with Mr. Lenox Linton and openly belittled Ms. Scotland who was borne in St. Joseph. You have questioned her birth place over and over. We the people St. Joe know that you are NOT for St. Joseph, NO, neither your mother nor your FATHER isn’t from St. Joe. Again you are from Layou Park, therefore, you don’t know nothing about St. Joe people.

Linton is a joker. Monell is on her high horse since she was regarded by Linton and his party members and made a senator in the House of Parliament. Some people forget their humble beginnings, putting it mildly, None of them are at par and could ever surpass the status, education and credentials of Baroness Scotland.
He (God) shall put down the mighty from their seat and exalt the humble.

It’s already failed – they have indoctrinated most everyone by telling them that Guyana is actually in the Caribbean.

    Well, well!

Though CARICOM could not agree initially on one candidate, once the announcement was made about Baroness Scotland “the region rallied around her”! Thank you region. It obviously was not personal animosity for you. Perhaps you can now help some Dominicans to do the same!
