Denzil Douglas denies US visa was revoked

Former Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Denzil Douglas, has denied that his US visa has been revoked by the American government.

In a statement he described the reports as “fabricated and bogus.”

An article has been circulating on the internet which stated that the Douglas’ visa was revoked.

The article was accompanied by a image of what appears to be a visa with the words “visa cancelled” on it.

“It’s not a document that is and ever was in my possession,” Douglas said.

However, it appears that Douglas’ diplomatic passport was rescinded by the new government which came to power recently after general election was held in St. Kitts.

“In this circumstance where a visa was issued in the diplomatic passport which has been recalled/cancelled, we’ve been a‎dvised that we need to apply for new visas in our regular passports,” Douglas said.

He stated the new government has revoked the diplomatic passports of former ministers of the St. Kitts Labour Party, “even though on assuming office they met in place a policy of former Heads of State and Government and others continuing to hold diplomatic passports.”

He said the entire matter is an attempt to tarnish his image and legacy.

Douglas was defeated in the general election held in St. Kitts on February 16.

He was prime minister for 20 years and was seeking a fifth consecutive term.

Of course the document being shown doesn’t appear to be in the name of the former Prime Minister of the twin island, though his picture seemed to be affixed and the words visa cancelled stamped across. It is a malicious document meant to embarrass him. On further scrutiny you will see the document is an expired document since 2004. Need I say more?

It is sad how some people castigate their fellow men after they go through a process that is inevitable.

Dr. Douglas is simply in denial, a well known manifestation of a primitive ego-defence mechanism to keep at bay realities that are intolerable to the mind. It is the reaction of someone, who refuses to accept what has happened to him. This is why people like Mugabe for instance can not let go and rather die in the saddle. Another good reason why limited terms of office are preferable. It is good for the country but also for the incumbent’s mental well being.

Why do these guys want to remain with diplomatic passports even after leaving the public service and after so many questions being asked of their activities while in office??? Diplomatic passports are dangerous in the wrong hands and no one should be entitled to retain such privilege after having left office!!! Garcon go read your proverbs eh!!!!! Lol

You remember that little game we use to play back in the 70’s? We use to hide something and had someone look for it. According to how far the person was from the object, we would sing cold, cold, cold. When the person hear that many cold call, they knew they were far from the object and then go another direction. As they got closer we would go: warm, warm, warm. When he hears warm he knew he was close and was on track. As he got closer, we would go Fire! Fire! Fire!

Well I can feel the FIRE of the US as they make their approach to Dominica. They are roasting and some of their corrupt targets that are hiding in Dominica are feeling the heat and know it will be their turn SOON

First it was those corrupt leaders of Venezuela the US threatened to put ban on. Then today we are hearing and seeing the cancellation of visa belonging to Denzil Douglas. I wonder who is next in line? Boy the US is knocking and that knock is getting very close to Dominica, where some very corrupt leaders reside. Let’s get them America and deliver Dominica for us please!

Is he not the leader of the opposition? Is he not an MP? Should he not be afforded some respect as one who lead the country for 20 years? Don’t he by reason of being a former Prime Minster, be given some respect by the new government? If he is guilty of something then press charges. Politicians should remember that their turn to leave office will come. One who serves in leadership of the country must be given due recognition. We don’t treat people like this. I am happy that Dr Douglas lost the election, but he deserves respect of the highest level.

I agree Pondera but remember that respect has to be earned. Did people who respected Dame Charles for instance stop doing so after she left office? She is only one example. The first thing for Dr. Douglas to do is to gracefully accept that he lost and that doing so is not necessarily a disgrace but simply the nature of things.

@ pondera you have a point there, so I guess Linton should not have a diplomatic passport, Lol.

‘He said the entire matter is an attempt to tarnish his image and legacy” This evokes memories of the Tyler Perry movie ‘ I can do bad all by myself. Dear former PM, the image and legacy were already tarnished and you did it all by yourself.

“Even though … they met in place a policy of former heads…and others continuing to hold diplomatic passports “. Dear former PM, weren’t you the one who nullified that policy when you revoked the passports of your former deputy PM and also the current PM whilst they were still government ministers? The things that go around have a very nice way of coming around. And, there’s a whole lot more to come.

I would imagine that as he’s no longer the Prime Minister or does hold any Office he’s no longer entitled to certain privileges. There’s nothing for him to be embarrassed about. Why deny the obvious? It’ll only compound curiosity and fuel speculation.

I understand your point, however the manner in which the story was being propagated, seems to suggest that the US government, embassy or immigration revoked his US visa. The people who concocted the story did not make it seem like he lost the right to the use of his diplomatic passport which in turn allowed him entry into the US. This is what he is refuting.

But Douglas . What policy of allowing ex ministers to have diplomatic passport nonsense you talking about. The first order of business of any new government should be to recall all diplomatic passports and have new ones issued under the new administration. Allyou rogue leaders have sold diplomatic passport to allyou people and expect that they will continue to enjoy the benefits???? That is why allyou fight so much to remain in power

What purpose would the diplomatic passport serve once you depart office?

You enjoyed the privilege as prime minister for 20 years. You lost the election and with it your privilege.
Get in line just like everybody else. You are now a private citizen. Get used to it.

That is what happens when you guys remain in power for too long. You start thinking you are entitled to certain perks. Sorry Jack!!

After more than 34 years out of office, President Jimmy Carter is still protected by the Secret Service. So are Presidents George H. W. Bush, William Jefferson Clinton and George W. Bush. The St. Kitts/Nevis government must realize that one day the shoe will be on the other foot.
