ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The country inched closer to implementing its Citizenship by Investment Programme as the law bringing the policy into effect once again made its way to the Parliament.
The stage was set for the much anticipated and highly controversial second reading of the bill, as all other bills to be debated were deferred when Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer introduced the Antigua & Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Act 2012 and opened the debate.
Spencer acknowledged that the proposed programme was a “charged, emotional and controversial” matter for the nation, but said it was in the best interest of residents. He noted, too, that daring steps must be taken for the country to move forward.
Let’s hope it is to the benefit of all Antiguans, and not just a few party acolytes.
