Eric Evelyn, Minister of Information and Information Services on Nevis, making his presentation at a sitting of the Nevis Island Assembly on July 03, 2018

The landmark Nevis Freedom of Information Bill, 2018, and the Tax Administration and Procedures (Amendment) Bill, 2018, after receiving their second and third readings, were passed at a sitting at the Nevis Island Assembly on July 03, 2018.

The Nevis Freedom of Information Bill, 2018, which was presented by Hon. Eric Evelyn, Minister of Information and Information Services, was passed unanimously. It will give members of the public a general right to access information, held by pubic authorities upon written request with some stated exemptions.

The Tax Administration and Procedures (Amendment) Bill, 2018, which was presented by Hon. Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis and Minister of Finance, is an amendment to the Tax Administration and Procedures Ordinance, Chapter 6.11 (N).

Two Resolutions were also passed at the Parliamentary sitting. One will formalise the completion of the Land for Debt exercise with the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Limited. It will formalise the existing EC$142 million debt already on the books.

The other dealt with an overdraft facility at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Limited.

It allows the NIA to borrow up to EC$5million for the period not exceeding January 1 to December 31, 2018 and will provide bridging funds for the administration’s day-to-day operations.

Don’t expect Skerritt/DLP to pass law that would force them to let out their SECRETS. NO FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT under that Gov’t

Skerritt/ DLP Gov’t changed the Law in Parliament re. our National Parks just to give, Free of charge, a foreign CO. 15 ACRES of our Land from the Cabrits National Park.

The Electoral Commission is waiting for Skerritt’s DLP Gov’t to put in Law, the necessary Legislative framework for that body to do its work. Up to now.

The Skerritt DLP Gov’t tried to sneak in a couple UNJUST LAWS, namely, one to make Bribery and Treating, which are illegal, against the electoral laws, LEGAL.

The Cabal tried again to sneak in an Anti-terrorist Bill, many know would be used to stifle dissent, protest and freedom of speech and Assembly. Our Human RIGHTS would be curtailed and the Constitution violated, according to certain clauses in that Bill.

SECRET DEALS a-plenty, so NO FREEDOM OF…

What are the amendments they are waiting to propose to the general public according to the same AG at the time? We listen to Parliament very closely! Dominicans do not sleep on them!

The Freedom of Information legislation is an essential part of good governance. Skerrit’s tenure in government is shrouded in secrecy and darkness. The present government should be referred to as a nocturnal administration. It is mortally afraid of sunlight. When the current PM and his lackeys are finally booted from government, expect all sorts of funny business to be unearthed.
