Human rights experts voice alarm at extended detention of Venezuelan judge

Judge María Lourdes Afiuni Mora (center) was detained on December 2009

Three independent United Nations human rights experts on Tuesday expressed their alarm at the decision of Venezuelan authorities to extend the house arrest of a judge for another two years, saying they were concerned about her physical and mental health.

Judge María Lourdes Afiuni Mora has been detained since December 2009 after she ordered the release of a man whose own detention had been declared arbitrary that year by a group of UN human rights experts.

Comes as no surprise.. “either u with us or against us” Sick Sick sick… but they don’t live forever… look cuba pardoning over 2000 political prisoners so you see eventually their crazy antiques come to an end. But sad so many have to suffer for the beliefs and greed of a few.

before you all start making those ridiculous and unfounded statements about Venezuela and its system of governance go read a book. the world’s biggest bully accuses others of being terrorists. george w bush said is either you are with us (meaning the usa) or you are against us. the usa preaches free will. then why dont they accept the will of the cuban people to remain communist? why cant they accept the will of the venezuelans to associate with whom ever they feel too? MR Democracy rules the world like a TRUE dictator..way to go mr usa. show your true colors

Are you kidding me? George W Bush was a 21st century president. Many Americans were detained for many years without trial under the ‘Patriot Act’. They were held in solitary confinement, in prisons unknown to their families. Luckily, that judge enjoys the luxury and comfort of her own home. She is the type of judge that works for the old regime that freed the Cuban counter-revolutionary terrorists that bombed the Cuban airliner off of the coast of Barbados in 1976. The terrorists walked free in the USA while 73 Cuban families await justice.

        Sout Man,

Think before you make such a statement. There is a difference in being a traitor of a country, their very own and supposedly terrorists versus being compassionate and fair. This Venezuelan Judge is being treated unfairly.
In any case, this has absolutely nothing to do with America and Cuba. The issue is the evil Venezuelan Law and that evil judge who wants revenge and is retaliating against this imprisoned Judge. Read the Full Story.
