Sec Gen of Caricom Irwin LaRocque shares a toast with Israel ambassador Amiram Magid

Israel has named its first ever ambassador to CARICOM who presented his credentials to the the organization’s secretary general, Irwin LaRocque, earlier this week,

LaRocque said he was convinced that Amiram Magid’s record as a fully engaged and diligent diplomat will serve to further enhance relations between Israel and CARICOM.

“CARICOM has much to gain and learn from Israel and, as in any meaningful partnership, I am sure that Israel has much to learn from the Caribbean Community,” he said.

He noted there were two important areas in which CARICOM could benefit from a strengthened relationship at the regional level: Protected Agriculture and Water Management.

Magid has served in seven Caribbean countries since 2010 and is no stranger to the region.

“I very much hope that I will be able to add another dimension to Israel’s engagement with the region. I hope to enhance our work in a variety of areas the political, the commercial and the development of cooperation spheres,” he said.

Dominica is member of CARICOM.

Marn only have couple questions Question: “What is Israelis’ interesting In Mountains, Sandy Beaches and Abundant open Clean River water and Sea Water” since its establishment as a Jewish State in 1948 dey neva thought they should have diplomat over here why now???

why can’t the Various CARICOM participants have a say to accept or deny the appointment,,,

But the main issue at hand is “what does dem Israelis have to offer CARICOM countries when they demselves cannot fin for themselves and have to be supported by United States financially”,,,

Call Marn an Anti Semite but if dem Israelis cannot make amends with dem Palestinians just behind dem walls dey arbitrarily built to claim some land dat is not theirs, taking it by compulsion, dey doh have no bizniss coming all across dis side of the globe to make friends over here,,,

If dere is anyway to protest dis appointment People should do it now before mista dem get too deep,,,

You do not make sense. Can any country fend for themselves? All countries, as also USA and Canada borrow money. Some from China. They borrow money to assist the smaller countries. They also assist countries in the Middle East.
Ask yourself will the Palestinians make amends with Israel?
Be happy about Israel’s Ambassador to CARICOM. Someday Israel may come to Dominica’s rescue and other CARICOM islands.

Get out from under the Rock that you living under and read real news!!!

what really happened dot com is a good place to start,,,

Marn only come here to entertain when I get little free time,,,

Marn have accomplished more than you will ever accomplish in 50 lifetimes and I have forgotten more than you will ever know or even learn,,,

The only reason why these guys appear to be borrowing money from each other is they have to keep the perpetual ponzi Scheme alive, from the inception of fractionalized lending and when Cesar decided they had to start the Minting of Coin,,,

All these nations including Commonwealth of Dominica, are fictitious entities that were merely concocted because some dudes arbitrarily created some rules to have them formed, so they can appear to control Estates, Just like any Corporation they only exist on Paper and by the same rules they created flags to represent those fictitious entities’ earthly presence,,,

You tell me, How can a fictitious entity Create Current, Currency, funds and Mint Coins,,,

You must be Fool-ish, stop looking to DNO for your news and spend a little more time researching free-press news,,,

Marn don’t need to ask the Palestinians to make amends with Israel, it is the Israelis who came to Claim land and is encroaching on more than what they settled for in 1948,,,

Answer me this, what does Israel export that Dominca needs, what technological advancement Israel have mastered that the CARICOM countries could utilize at this juncture,,,

Could you give me 10 ligitimate reasons why we need this Ambassador in the region???

Come on fellas, cheer up. Jesus Christ himself was an Israelite. Maybe Israel can send us one of their modern day magicians to multiply bread and fish and turn water into wine. After all they can make the desert bloom. That would be a relieve for us and even Skerrit could take credit for that as part of his “yes we care” programme and divine mission.

Israel, hmmmn… I wonder I wonder. I will say that Israelis were the first nation to setup temporary hospitals in Haiti after the earthquake, they were also one of the first countries there. From a technological standpoint Israel has much to offer the Caribbean. The nuclear issue and their politics with the Arabs is their business however, if Jews start buying land and opening stores all over DA then lookout!

I harbor no ill feelings against Israel and will always stand up for it. Some of you think that Israel did not suffer at the hands of its opponents, its enemies.
I am not a leftist. Think beyond, to the future and in the future. What I foresee is they cannot go wrong in accepting Israel’s friendship.
Some may not like this. However, consider this. No one can visualize what may occur in the future. In view of the region’s situation, if you know what I mean (read between the lines), one day they may very well need Israel who will come to their rescue, should problems arise.
God is working on your side and you are too blind and lack godly enlightenment to even consider it and know it. Your critics of Israel are unfounded. It is no worst than the countries you cited. Give Israel an opportunity in the region.
Simply look at it from this angle, establishing diplomatic relationship with Israel will prove to be a worthy cause. Mark my words.
Irwin, my cousin, :) I wholeheartedly agree with you. It is great to see how much you have aspired to and attained. If only your parents were here they would be extremely proud of you. They nurtured you appropriately. Your brothers and sisters of all including others who knew you from childhood are proud of you and your achievements. You are a model who the Dominican youths should also emulate. Good luck in whatever you undertake to do. Hope to see you sometime. God bless you!

CARICOM countries should insist that Israel return Palestinians land to them, allow the return of Palestinian refugees, remove the blockade on the Gazza strip, respect Palestinians human rights, compensate the families of the hundreds of Palestinians killed in recent bombings and previous wars, destruction of the Gazza strip and other parts of Palestine including the West Bank, adhere to the UN resolutions with regard to Palestine, before they establish diplomatic relations with this Zionist State. We should make it clear that even if the Americans accept or even encourage their behaviour, we as small CARICON nations totally oppose it and very much support the Palestinians cause.

      Eagle Eye.

I agree with you a hundred percent but I will also add that the IAEA must go to Israel and remove all their nuclear weapon. If you look at the news in America ,Canada or England they never asked Netanyahu about his country illegal nuclear weapons. If you allow those people into the Caribbean they will own your banks and any real estate of significance .

  8. November 8, 2013

Hello and good afternoon. Well I don’t see what an Aparthied Country like Isreal can offer to Democratic countries of the Caribbean. How can Netanyahu get on the podium at the United Nation and criticize Iran nuclear program which is under IAEA monitoring meanwhile Israel has over two hundred nuclear bombs. Israel claim to be a Demacracy so why no one can interview Modici Vanunu about Israel nuclear weapons. To be quite honest we don’t need anything from this Aparthied country so please stay away from the Caribbean.

An open mind is great however, given the track record of the Israel state, We would be headed in the wrong direction in doing any type of business with these people. They will stop at nothing to destroy any positive moves towards human rights, economic stability, sustainability and freedom of African people.

      Rastafari.

Hello and good afternoon. I agree with your post because they bleed Germany dry and they continue to bleed America dry. Sometimes I wonder if the American elected officials work for the people of America or Israel. This is a disgusting and racist Apartheid country who think everyone is stupid as to whats happening in Palestine. Open your eyes my people.

yes tony;i am asking the same question about dominica, with regards to china;ain’t we all looking for our interest?

      • November 11, 2013

The Americans don’t need the Israelis to bleed them dry. They’re doing that all by themselves through unsustainable fiscal and monetary policy. Aid to Israel is barely a blip on the radar screen when it comes to U.S. spending.

Our closest allies seem have very questionable tract record when it comes to human rights.(china and Tibet). so adding Israel to the gang would be keeping with our government plan for economic development. Interesting move on the part of Israel – I wonder if the fact that CARICOM countries voted for an independent Palestinian state has anything to do with a possible desire to subvert that the next time a vote comes up in the UN. Call me a cynic but, after all these years of CARICOM’s existence, only now Bibi Netanyahu wants diplomatic relations with the region? Israel’s position, vis-a-vis the Palestinans, continues to progressively deteriorate worldwide, and I am convinced this is an attempt to stem that tide, in light of the fact that the last time a vote was scheduled to come up in the UN, the diplomatic outreach Israel conducted in the region prior to the voting, proved an absolute disaster, so now to potentially mitigate a repeat of that, they’ve determined that it’s in their interest to open a diplomatic office here so they can begin to try to move the region over to their side. As I said, call me a cynic, but they don’t do anything without an ulterior motive.

Of course they are looking out for their national interest. Do you think that China’s motives are altruistic? Or Taiwan, when we had relations with them before we stabbed them in the back? Even Dominica was looking out for itself when we double crossed Taiwan and took up with China years ago. That is par for the course, diplomatic relations are used for a nation’s advantage.

As far as we are concerned, and particularly with respect to Israel we must also remember the one who said of them “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you.”

Articulate, insightful post WARMA. Without a doubt, the Palestinians have been the victims of patently unjust policies enacted by the Israeli government and this latest diplomatc effort is clearly in response to opposition in the UN by Caribbean States. The question now is how should Dominica react to Israel’s diplomatic outreach? The fact is that Israel is an island of democracy, economic strength, politcal stability, and modernity in a sea of unstable, economically crippled, violent, and increasingly extremist regimes. A closer relationship with Isreal could yield many benefits from tourism growth to direct economic developement aid. Our relationship with China is grounded in our open support of the “one China policy” – an unworkable and unjust communist era fantasy that the US would oppose with force. To our government’s credit our position on this non-issue has lead to Chinese economic developement that has changed the face of Dominica for the better. Let’s keep an open mind when it comes to Israel’s diplomatic outreach in the Caribbean.

i am trying to understand one passage as written by you,an unworkable and unjust communist era fantasy that the US would oppose with force,as far as we understnd, the US is the biggest creditor to china,in other words,no other country in the world is owing china, like the US,so what are you actaully trying to say,not that i am being abstractive, but clear the air here for me.

and on another note, the US just gave pakistan billions of dollars, and pakistan wants a blockade of the shipment route to afganistan which the US useses to supply their ground troops inside afganistan, over the drone strike killing of a taliban militant, and what are they given us,will the israelly government leaders do any good really, and when i say israelly,i do not mean, the children of israel,i know they are praying for us,it’s the false leaders, which went to israel back in those days, and establish themselves, and now pose as israelites, they have all the money and power, and are protected by the US government, given advance military capabilities, the US is supporting their own,so there is differance in israel, the palestanians are actaully from israel they are refugees, who flee israel, during the invasion of jerusalem, and they were blocked from returning to their own country.
