Major earthquake could hit Eastern Caribbean

Could the Caribbean experience another earthquake like the devastating one in Port-au-Prince in 2010?

The answer is yes – and it could be even more powerful, according to Dr Joan Latchman, the director of the Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies. The Eastern Caribbean is a subduction zone, which makes it one of the areas of the world able to deliver extremely high-magnitude earthquakes.

Be aware of suggestions not of your own some will be good some bad. Beings are here in droves possibly from a parallel universe. I know this as fact that is why I am telling you. There is a sect that believes the earth is a living being even their “God.” That is plain stupidity. The Universe is God’s realm. Earth is an evolving planet, get it! 15 plus years into a 33 year Volcanism along with plate tectonics movement, pole shift and a warm trend. People, there is a reason beings are here maybe 12-21-2012 will see a return? Jesus spoke in parables because we could not possibly understand the truth. Mans brain power increased 3 times in 200 years in geological terms very fast. There will be more Japan sized quakes in the next 18 years that is a fact. Now the bad news. ‘Super,’ amazingly is used for Volcanoes, storms and yes Tsunamis. Earth has had these monsters in past part of evolution of planet. There is ever increasing concern these Mega calamities will occur very soon. Some scientists say “OVERDUE!” Fear is your friend not enemy it is there to warn you that’s it! It is what you do with the warning, heed it and be prepared or possibly perish into the goodnight!

So allu have to invoke God into everything? The earth is forever changing. Earthquakes, volcanoes, storms, blizzards are all part of the natural processes. If you are caught in one, you might die. There is no god to protect you if you are caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. That is just how things go.

All countries are susceptible to disasters. Of course the tropical islands as Dominica are more prone to earthquakes.
I have resided in Canada for some years and I never thought that there would be earthquakes in this country because it is a relatively cold country. Since I have been in Toronto and in the area where I reside, there have been approximately 5 earthquakes which I felt. There was one which registered 5.0 in summer 2010. There was one in June this year. I pray to God that we will not get a worst one. Therefore, Dominicans, pray and keep praying that a major earthquake will not strike DA. If we pray with faith and ask God to assist us, He will or He will lighten the disaster.
We reside in an era – worldwide – that less people practice the faith and live according to their understanding, ignoring God as if He does not exist. Consider, what do we expect if the majority of them turn away from God and from Christianity? Blame them for that. Not the faithful and prayerful ones.

You believed Canada would not be prone to earthquakes because it is cold? What does cold have to do with earthquakes?

Earthquakes happen in the bowels (although there are shallow quakes) of the earth where it is hot, no matter what the air temperature is.

        @ Grasshope

I am certain you were not aware of that until I stated it. You knew nothing about it previously. Simply accept what I stated and allow me my freedom of speech/writing.
Be intelligent. A cold climate may not produce heat underground. The temperature has to be a certain degree Fahrenheit to be warm. Furthermore, the earthquake did not occur in winter. It occurred in summer. No one in the parts of Canada where it is cold would ever give it a thought that earthquakes would occur at any time. Whether it is in summer the earth in those countries are still frigid. So is the water.
Let me inform you further. My first summer in Canada when the temperature was approximately 90 degrees F., I thought that I would fill a bathtub with cold water to take a warm bath or a comfortable one; so I thought, thinking the water would be at least warm. I was highly mistaken. As I placed my feet in the water, I was shocked that the water was cold and I mean frigid. I emptied the bath tub and filled it with some hot and cold water.
Please do not contradict me. Only God knows what is occurring beneath the earth and in a cold climate. You do not!

We are in the world and anything can happen to anyone at anytime. It is a reality which we have to face and contend with.
Those who believe in God, have faith, hope and trust in Him and pray to Him will be strengthened. God has promised this to them.
To those as Humanist who blame God for everything rather than blame themselves as agnostics and atheists, they who cause evil to flourish and bring down the wrath of God upon the earth, you better think twice.
The day will come that the faithful followers of God will be happy that they believed and worshipped God. All will then see the truth of their faith and perseverance and reap the eternal benefit. The others who deny God and blame Him for everything will see the truth, their error and grind their teeth for all eternity. They will wish that they did not live a life of denying God and blaming Him. Wait and see!

I don’t need this kind of news now. Christmas is already dread. So, please, DNO, spare me more despair. I’ve heard about this before. I don’t need to be reminded at this time.

    • Justice and Truth
      December 20, 2011

      @ Conscious

Oh ye of little faith and strength. :) Christmas will be here soon. Now who is at the head and forefront of Christmas? Our Lord Jesus Christ who came to earth as a baby. He suffered and died for us. We are celebrating His Birth. Therefore what are you stating? Life is not a bed of roses. We have to take the good with the bad and hope for the best. This is life!
You say Christmas is already dread. What are you doing? What type of life do you live to feel that way?
Let me remind you that when Our Lord was born, it was in a manger; not a mansion. Although He was (is) King, he lived as a pauper. There are reasons for this. Our Almighty Father knew what He was doing and this was to show us that we do not need riches and a lot of money to be happy. Our happiness lies in God.
Our Lord said, “if you have a roof over your head and food to eat, some clothing, you will be satisfied with that. Do not worry about what you will eat and drink. Your Heavenly Father will provide in time.” Be strong of faith, worship God and pray to Him.
I believe I have stated this previously but will repeat it to you. I read what hurts Our Lord most is that we do not trust Him. When you say that Christmas is dread and may feel you are in despair, this is what you are doing. Cease thinking of yourself and selfishly. Think of others. Consider that there are people who are sick; in hospitals; some who are deaf and blind and the list goes on. If you have all your faculties you are one fortunate person and should rejoice. Give this a good thought. Thank God for what you have.

We do realize that what is there to happen will happen. However, what do you know about God? You are placing Him low on the list or at the bottom of the list.
It is God’s world. He governs it even though you do not give it a thought. He can do what He will. Of course, God can change the weather, the force of it and the wind and divert them elsewhere, stabilize them or strengthen them wherever He so wishes. Just pray to the Divine Mercy. If He chooses not to, He can help in another way to assist you to bear it and to receive help. If you pray with a humble and contrite heart you will get help from no other but God, in the form of other people. Small and unenlightened minds cannot fathom this to the point of denying it.
The story goes that a man told a U.S. Priest at a gathering, “Father, I know there is no God.” The Priest replied: “Why is that Son?” The man said, “Well, I was in the Artic and there was a heavy storm. I went down on my knees and prayed.” The Priest said to him, “Did God answer your prayers?” The man said, “No, heck! God did not even lift a finger. An Eskimo came from nowhere and helped me.” II laugh at this.
This is a true story. Whom do you think helped him and sent help? Figure this out. Whenever we get help in whatever form, we never consider that God sent help for us even those who deny His existence. This is how much He loves every one with no exception.
This is to be expected of people of little faith, no faith and non-believers in God. Our Lord will say to you: “O ye of little faith.” I hope you learn something from this.

Of course it’s real, why are you scaremongering? We have a monster volcano down by Barbados which is also said to erupt “any day soon”.
Dominica is also has the highest concentration of dormant peaks of anywhere in the world. Tell us something we don’t know.

Oh btw, what does your god have to do with plate tectonics.

      @ Nudibranch

People as you do need to be reminded of God’s love, assistance, compassion, mercy and forgiveness. Have you ever read the Holy Bible specifically the New Testament?
      Be positive! Pray to God.
It is said that God governs the world but prayers govern God. Prayers will move His hand to assist.
There is a passage in Holy Scripture that a man knocked at a neighbor’s door in the middle of the night and said that he had visitors and he wanted bread. The neighbor said to him, “Go away and do not bother me.” The man kept knocking. The neighbor relented and gave him the bread.”
Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke in parables. This means, keep praying and persevering and your prayers will be answered in whatever way God knows best that is good for you (for us). He holds the key. Cease being negative and place your faith, hope and trust in God. This is what He wants you to do including each and every one of us.

The possibility is quite real. Because the tectonic deformation and active geo-dynamic processes in the Caribbean region, have produced distinc seismic and volcanic activity sources capable of generating destructive tsunamis. We must also remember that the Caribbean plate occupies a position in between two major plates, the North and South American plates. These plates are dominated by continental masses. This fact has controlled part of the lenghthy evolution of the Caribbean plate.

How ironic that the same god you speak of openly allows for rape in the bible!

Furthermore, why would you need to be told that forcing a woman to have sex with you is wrong? If you don’t think it is, and only restrain yourself because you want a mansion in Heaven, well, you’re a sad person indeed. Morality is something that must be refined and developed by intellectuals over time; but, at the same time, much of it is just common sense. You seriously think people thought killing was happy and fine before the Ten Commandments?

      • MewMew
        December 20, 2011

Dear Humanist, your words were: “Morality is something that must be refined and developed by intellectuals over time; but, at the same time, much of it is just common sense.”

If there is any shade of truth in this, then please tell me: how LONG does it take those intellectuals, who are increasing in numbers by the minute, to arrive at morality? And why are crime and violence so obviously on the increase? Why aren’t we any better now, in terms of learning to live with our fellow humans, than we were when universities and PhDs were not as common?

      • Humanist
        December 21, 2011

Crime and violence is not at all on the increase. Historically, societies were significantly more violent than they are today. And, if you adjust deaths in wars for world populations at the time (i.e., the actual destructiveness of a war), you will find that the twentieth century is no, in fact, the most destructive. It’s easy to see isolated acts of violence and think the world is unusually violent, but this is not the case, in fact. Western-style civilization and education lead to less violent societies.

A great book on this is a new study by Steven Pinker called The Better Angels of our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined.

You believe that stupidity that there is no God? Are you a Dominican? Look around you. Look at everyone including yourself; the moon, stars, rivers, lakes, sea, animals, etc. including human intelligence. Surely, someone made them and gave humanity intelligence. They did not merely come about through evolution.
You better conform to the Most Holy Will of God so that you will be saved.
Religion does not harness and control anyone.
It is said that “Religious folks are happier” and also peaceful. If we practice the faith as we should, we will a relatively happy and peaceful life.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said to someone, “I did not say that it will be easy. Pick up your cross and follow Me.” He suffered and died for us that if we obey His (Our) Heavenly Father’s Commandments, we will be saved.
Tiny, get with it for you and all those who deny God, your day will come sooner or later and when you least expect it. Quit being a denier and/or skeptic.
May God bless you and grant you enlightenment. Have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!

You’re right on one count: “the moon, stars, rivers, lakes, sea” certainly did not come about through evolution, since evolution refers to the formation of and gradual change in living organisms. Please understand what evolution refers to before bashing it. At any rate, many Christians accept evolution.

The universe is much more than what you listed. You, like many creationists, say the “universe” is designed and then suddenly switch your gaze entirely onto the Earth–ignoring the rest of that universe. I cannot see how either we or the universe is intelligently designed, since neither our designs nor the universe’s at large seem that intelligent. Our body is a mess; Earth is far water than land; what land there is isn’t even all inhabitable; we are fragile; we know of no other planet we can live on, and the universe is too big for us to travel to anywhere outside our solar system. The rest of the universe is just sort of there, isn’t it? Billions of galaxies, black holes sucking in light and matter, stars exploding and forming in nebulae, asteroids crashing into distant planets, etc. If the universe is truly “designed” for us, why are we barred from visiting and using 99.9999% of it? Why are we so tiny and insignificant compared to everything else?

        Some design….

Yes, there is good and there is bad. Many a fanatical Christian, however, ignores the bad whenever the good appears, as if the good washes away the bad. The suffering that occurs every day is almost beyond imagining, and I am sorry, but I cannot stand the idea of a god that sits back and lets it happen–and has all the power, we are told, to stop it. I’m sorry, but that seems absolutely evil to me.

Oh what honest and loving people we are. Oh what sinless and holy people we are. Oh what peaceful and kind people we are, and the list goes on of things which is the opposite of sin. Get the point. Everything sad and bad that’s happening is a result of sin. It started with our Dad Adam, and it will go on till the lord shall call his people home and grant unto us a glorified body, those who are in Christ Jesus! Not everyone, for those who reject his son will not have eternal life. I suffered as a child, because my mom sinned against God and disobeyed her dad when he said to leave my father alone, he not ready to settle down. Oh but she did not listen, and poverty strike. BUT GLORY BE TO GOD, like his grace, he have allow me to get an education and a job and now we are out of poverty….that’s what God does….though we sin and we feel the consequences of our sin, he still is loving enough to send his son to die for us. That is love…and the bad things are of the devil, not God because God is love…thus he send his son. Oh also the only person God turn his back on was his own son, while he bore our sins!!

Humanist, respect to you and I hope that you are having a good day. First I agree with you that these are natural disasters, second I want you to remember that Jesus (my Lord) instructed us that these things must happen before the end of the world, In this world there is good and bad,God is not a dictator but he looks over his children, it wasn’t until i started living in the united states that I realized how much protection God has given to people like us who grew up in poorer countries,Knowledge has a part to play in your protection also, so if you have the knowledge for preparedness, then use it, but the truth my friend is as you joke about heavenly mansions, when you find yourself in tight situations you will cry out to God (just in case) and God will be with you, the one thing I want you to remember is that if you have a continual prayer in your heart, when the time comes where you need to cry out to God in an instant, he will hear and answer you,if you are indeed a humanist, you have to admit, humans are not exceptionally kind to each other, so I feel safer believing in a God that allows me the very air I breath, than to believe in a hamanity, that goes to war and kills thousands just for financial reasons.God bless you my brother/sister
