Martinique looks to continue cruise sector growth

MIAMI, USA — Martinique will be well-represented at the upcoming Cruise Shipping Miami 2011 conference (SEATRADE) March 14-17, 2011, at the Miami Beach Convention Center, as a strong 10-person delegation led by Karine Roy-Camile, Commissioner of the Martinique Tourism Authority, will attend the key industry event.

Joining Roy-Camile will be several high-ranking officials from the Martinique Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as well as the Cruise Association of Martinique, presenting a unified front between the island’s public and private sectors in a concerted effort to continue recent gains in cruise travel to Martinique.

Addressing the primary goal of the Martinique delegation, Roy-Camile stated, “We hope to grow our current momentum by impressing upon the industry all that Martinique has to offer today’s savvy cruise customer. Millions of travelers choose cruise vacations to the Caribbean each year, but the industry cannot bank on offering the same itineraries to the same destinations year after year. Martinique is still new to most US cruisers, yet offers all the modern infrastructure and unique experiences cruise passengers demand. We’re well positioned for growth and 100-percent open for cruise business.”

The 2010-2011 cruise season in Martinique got off to a strong start as the French Caribbean island was added to the itineraries of three ships – Carnival Victory, Celebrity Century and Disney Magic – for the first time. The Martinique delegation to SEATRADE will seek to build upon this by lobbying for increased port calls from among the 1,700 attendees representing 65 cruise lines at the conference.

In addition to one-on-one meetings with all major cruise lines in attendance at the conference, the Martinique delegation will also host an educational presentation for cruise specialist travel agents, journalists and other cruise industry officials providing a comprehensive update on the latest enhancements to the island’s tourism product.

Cruise ships call on Martinique in the heart of downtown Fort-de-France, the island’s capital city and the capital of the Caribbean when it comes to shopping. The best of Parisian fashion, jewelry, porcelain, perfumes and other fine goods are here, and for US travelers most of it is available at a 20% discount. Select stores offer the discount to visitors who make purchases using major US credit cards or travelers cheques.

Cruise lines making port calls in Martinique during the 2010-2011 cruise season include Celebrity, Costa, Disney Cruises, Holland America Line, Azamara, Oceania, Silversea, Princess, Sea Cloud Cruises and Star Clippers.

      ….we are building a presidential palace that tourist will pay to come and see! They don’t have anything like that in Martinique.
