MINISTER of National Security Dwight Nelson says that those involved in the fight against crime will not be comfortable until there are further reductions in the crime figures, despite announcing encouraging statistics today.
Speaking today at a joint press conference with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) at the Police Officer’s Club in St Andrew, he said that there had been a 44 per cent reduction in murders between January and March, compared to the same period last year.
“While we are thankful for the reductions, we will not sit on the laurels of comfort. We are determined, and I’m sure the JCF and JDF agree, to slash the crime rates with an intensification of initiatives,” said Nelson
The police divisions with the largest reductions were: St Andrew North, 78 per cent; St Andrew South, 58 per cent; 60 per cent in both Kingston Central and Western; St Catherine North, 31 per cent and St Catherine South, 35 per cent.
