MONTEGO BAY, St James — Prime Minister of Dominica, and outgoing chairman of Caribbean Community (Caricom) Roosevelt Skerrit has thrown his support behind Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding’s new crime-fighting initiatives as well as his chairmanship of the regional body.
In fact, Skerrit wants Golding to spearhead a similar programme at the regional level.
“Dominica, all of us have no objection to Prime Minister Golding leading Caricom at this time. What he is doing in Jamaica is something that is supported in terms of fighting criminals, and all of us heads of government and citizens of the region must play our part because crime is a societal problem and not a governmental problem,” Skerrit said.
“We all must play our part in fighting crime, and we are happy also that he has taken over the chairmanship of Caricom. So at the regional level he can also push forward that particular agenda, which is needed also in our islands,” Skerrit added.
