Trinidad and Tobago’s opposition leader wants his country’s government to help avoid an economic collapse in Grenada.
Dr Keith Rowley has made a call for action from his government against the backdrop of Grenada’s indebtedness to Taiwan; an issue that recently threatened the closure of Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) in St George’s.
The opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) leader told reporters in Port of Spain that Trinidad and Tobago cannot turn a blind eye and allow the economy of Grenada to collapse.
“We have an interest in ensuring the Grenadian economy is not derailed by that dispute,” he said.
After reading this, I am reminded of the saying….’when your neighbour’s house is on fire, take water and wet yours.” Dominica take note!!
Construction of the international airport was started by the Cubans during the revolutionary government, and completed by the Americans after 1983 invasion.
DO CONCUR WITH THAT SUGGESTION,THEM taiwanese have no heart,so all the time they playing like they interested in the country only now we see is for political support in the un…Caricom should mobilise funds to assist, since THAT CAN AFFECT ALL OF THE OTHER COUNTRIES,,,
Remember! The UWP wanted the Labour Party to maintain ties with Taiwan instead of China.
see what could happen if we recklessly take a loan to build an international airport which cant repay itself? Examples of our neighbors struggling with their international airports yet ignorant people think its the way to go. smfh.
yea but the issue here did not say that the loan was to build an international airport,is this what that is all about?,because as we have always learned that grenada airport was an old millitary air strip from since world war two,and the cubans had build or enhance it,during maurice bishop days.
We will build an international-airport when we have the money.
But until then, NO international-airport in the book.
Dominica will forever remain backward. Keep the country as it is with all the bush. why dont we just go live in de bush because that is all the is prevalent in DA it seems. People leaving secondary school with subjects and have to battle for a job as a cashier at a supermarket. There are no incentives encouraging young people, and even the older ones with some money, to start their own businesses. The place is so heavily under populated; people are forced to live a country like Dominica and live in places like Antigua!! Give me a break. Regardless to which political party that is in power, the place will forever remain the same. No body want change. Cut down a few damn trees, construct the international airport – get traffic (visitors) into the country. If we not exporting and are unable to attract visitors where we going to get money for development? I am sick sick sick and tired of the state of Dominica. The place just not moving forward.
how did it come to this??
That’s what happen when you just want people to give you money for free. There is no free lunch. Its a pity its not the politrickters that pay for these ‘mistakes’.
I hope DA doesn’t find itself in similar situatation with China. We seem to have a lot of “made in China” or better yet, “paid for by China” while we don’t have any idea of what is in the MOU. Let’s becarsful DA!
The mentality of Caricom leaders is to be beggars and follow the highest bidder…..Domonica please learn a lesson
Well said….byen di!!!
