A six-year-old schoolgirl, whose body was found in a barrel at her home on Thursday, had been sexually assaulted while unconscious and dying, according to the results of an autopsy done on Friday.
Caribbean news website, Caribbean 360, reports Trinidadian pathologist Dr. Valery Alexndradrov as saying that a blunt force trauma was the cause of the death of Keyana Cumberbatch whose body was found stuffed in a barrel in a bedroom at her home.
“She sustained massive cranial cerebral trauma, which means there was trauma to the skull and the brain and the trauma to the skull was so extensive that all the (wounds) were open,” he said, adding that before the autopsy, X- rays were done, and there were no previous fractures “.
The pathologist also told reporters that there was no immediate evidence of previous sexual abuse. However, this would be investigated further using microscopic examination. He said he could not give an approximate time of death.
According to Caribbean 360, residents became angry and called for justice as the body was being removed from the apartment at Maloney, east of Port of Spain.
Police said the smell of decomposing flesh alerted the school girl’s mother, Simone Williams, 27, to the terrible possibility that her eldest daughter’s body may have been inside the apartment since Monday when she was reported missing while returning from the St Barbara’s Shouter Baptist Primary School, where she was a second-year pupil.
A male relative of the girl has been in police custody since Tuesday. He was arrested after residents reported to police that he was the last person to be seen with the girl prior to her disappearance.
Meanwhile, the regional news website reports, former Gender, Youth and Child Development Minister Verna St Rose Greaves, stormed the Trinidad and Tobago Parliament accusing the Kamla Persad Bissessar-led coalition government of being insensitive to the death of children. Her action forced the suspension of the Parliament for 10 minutes.
The former minister, who had been staging a one person protest outside the Parliament building, said there had been enough talk and the time had come for action to protect children.
She said the murder of the six-year old school child could have been prevented if the Children’s Authority Act was in force.
The former minister said the government continues to play games with the lives of the children and this cannot be allowed to continue.
She said Prime Minister Persad Bissessar has failed the nation’s children.

Thank God for churches in the Caribbean that tell it like it is. People need to hear that there is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun!
In Canada and the US we have churches and T.V. evangelists teaching “positive thinking” and “pop psycholgy” (not even good psychology!) intead of the old time gospel.
Churches have a God given mandate to teach the commandments of God
and this includes God’s requirements for premarital sexual purity, and His laws against adultery and homosexualiy. Matthew 28:18-20, 2 Timothy 4:1-5, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10.
Pastors are responsible to deliver God’s message and tell their congregations and communities how HE says they are to live.
Many years have passed since that solemn Sunday morning in he City of Toronto when I knelt before
a Senior Pastor surrounded by elders and heard him read the charge from 2 Timothy 4:1-5 at my ordination service. God forbid, but if the time ever comes when I no longer have the courage and boldness to “preach the Word” as to applies to the current problems of society I will step aside.
We need a return to the teaching
of the Word of God not only in the churches but in the homes and schools of our nations. 
This is the ONLY thing that will cause children to grow up to be God fearing young people and respectable adults who will avoid the gred, lust, perversion,and violence that is damaging our communities.

As for that former Minister I have not read in the article what she had done to protect the children as a former Minister. A child is dead – let the family grieve for their child before politics and offer your condolences.
There is a time and place for everything. How could Trinidad’s Prime Minister prevent that terrible crime even if the laws were in place?
Should she have had that child in her care? Should she take away all children from their parents and she raise them herself or put them somewhere and the government take care of them?

I am aware of the fact that crimes like this are happening in the Caribbean. Sad to say they are also happening in the US and Canada. Maybe more so.
These things are on the increase world wide. They are so evil and so absolutely vile there are no words to describe them. People should know that the Bible tells us “This know also that in the last days perlous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, WITHOUT NAURAL AFFECTION…” (2 Timothy 3:1-3)
This is the human condition. The increase of crimes that result from the lack of “natural affection” (this is the lack of mormal love for one’s own children and family members) are a sign that the end of the age is drawing near. (This is the end of “the age” not of the world. It means the end of this present system or order of things.)
I would like to make the following comments for your consideration.
(1) One only has to read the comments following this DNO story to realise that all law abiding parents in the Caribbean love their children and are stricken with grief and rage. The Caribbean folks are usually sensible and solid. The apparent increase of violence on certain islands is a matter of concern.
(2) My own country abolished the death penalty in he 1970’s under the rule of a Roman Catholic Prime Minister with socialist leanings who also decriminalized homoseuality. Now in Canada when such a gruesome rape/murder of a child takes place we can not seek the death penalty.
(3) If you live in a democatic nation you have a right to know where your political candidates stand on social issues before you vote. You have the priviledge of nominating and voting for those who stand for God’s righteous laws; the people who you believe will do the best job of keeping crime down and keeping your people safe.
(4) When God gave the Old Testamnt law to the Nation of Israel He included strong laws to govern sexual behavior. The nation was warned against illicit sexual practices. God said “LEST THE LAND BE FILLED WITH VIOLENCE.” The answers to the worst crimes of violence (blood shed and murder) will not come from the behavioral sciences of psychology, sociology, and criminology. The answers are in the Word of God – the BIBLE! Until the nations return to God and take seriouly what HE says about pre-marital sex, commonlaw relationships, extra-marital sex, homosexualiy, and the time proven values of chastity, and virginity, violence will continue to increase. Behavioral scientists will let out an educated howl and say they find no connection between the two. But the terrible truth is that both problems (sexual sin AND violence) are found together. They are joined at the hip. Where ONE is at a minimum BOTH are at a minimum. Where ONE is plentiful BOTH are plentiful. Investigate a crime of violence and murder. In most cases you will an illicit sexual relationship somewhere in the mess.
(5) Bible believing, Christ centered, gospel preaching churches have much to offer. They are not perfect. Neither are our schools, hospitals, governments, or other institutions perfect, but try to run a country without them! Churches that fulfill their mandate to teach God’s moral standards are a help to the families that attend. If you raise your children with that kind of influence I can’t guarrantee they will never have a problem but it will make a difference. Parents should teach their children at home the right way to go. But parents today need all the extra help they can get to keep their children on “the straight and narrow.” The church comes along side them and provides that extra help. It’s not only what the kids hear from the pulpit. Many churches have a Sunday School, a Youth Group, a camp, and other activities.
