KINGSTON, Jamaica – A video on a popular United States website showing a Jamaican man beating a woman has drawn sharp condemnation from two local experts on women’s rights.
The video, which up to 6:30 yesterday evening had had more than 170,000 views, is more than six minutes long. The video has gone viral, with more than 10,000 people sharing it on social networking website Facebook in the same time period.
Faith Webster, executive director or the Bureau of Women’s Affairs, called the video “disturbing and distressing”.
Dorothy Whyte, executive director of the Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre (WROC), said she could not watch the video in its entirety due to its content.
“I cannot believe, in this day and age, that a community is condoning violence against this woman,” Webster said.

This shows a lack of respect for women.
It also shows an anger management problem.
It happens most where marriage has been devalued, fornication has become acceptable, and common-law living is being substituted for the God ordained church approved husband and wife in the home.
A man and a woman living together always has its challenges. These are not always bad. By them we learn and grow. But when they are not married in the sight of God and are not in that one flesh relationship that has God’s smile of approval there is going to be a lack of trust and respect. It should not
come as a surprise when a certain contempt develops between them that explodes into violent behaviour.
There are also men who physically abuse their legal wives. Unfortunately some of them grew up in an abusive home and saw their fathers mistreating their mothers. In some cases alcohol was a factor. There are men who are violent towards other women.

Also the abuse has a tendency to become more violent.
Generally it is not going to just go away. This is why a man with this problem should seek help in the form of counseling or therapy. He could begin by speaking to a pastor who is known to do counseling and is recommended, or ask his family doctor (M.D.) He could ask the hospital administrator who he (or she) could recommend.

Secondly, all these women on here who commented what they will do the man after are just as bad. The only legitimate action is self defense. If she goes and gets something to detach his limbs or any of those, she is just as bad or worse. Yes I understand how many of our women feel however, revenge is not always the answer. As a Jamaican, I am sick to see such things. Even if you look, all the men are there smoking and the women looking as if all is well.
