PRESS RELEASE: The Diocese of Roseau Youth Secretariat in collaboration with the Parish of Our Lady of Fairhaven Cathedral, is organizing its annual World Youth Day Rally to be held on Saturday March 27,  2010.

Pope Benedict the XVI has declared the following theme: “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”( Mk 10:17).

This annual event brings together youth from every parish of Dominica for fellowship in song, dance and drama. The day’s activities will include a procession from the Botanical Gardens to St. Mary’s Academy (SMA) beginning at 10:00 am, youth performances, dramatization of the Way of the Cross and the celebration of the Palm Sunday Liturgy by His Lordship, Bishop Gabriel Malzaire.  The Honourable Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports will also be addressing the youth.

World Youth Day (WYD) was an initiative of Pope John Paul II and has been continued by Pope Benedict XVI.  World Youth Day is celebrated on Palm Sunday in Catholic Dioceses around the world and every three years on an international level.  The next international celebration of World Youth Day will be held in Madrid, Spain in August 2011.

I pray that the people especially the youths, not only look at this occassion as a time of just having a good time but as a time to reflect on their life as a people and their relationship with God. We need to sincerely seek to have and know what it is to have a personal, and itimate relationship with God. The church needs to start focusing more and preaching about salvation and repentance and the consequences of living a life that is not in alignment with the word of God. Time to get away with the religion and let our life and desires be all about Jesus and the price he paid on calvary.

That’s a pretty large crowd with the notable absence of Pope Benedict. Good going, the Roseau Diocese.
