Fr. Reginald Lafleur dismissed from the priesthood

Fr. Lafleur defrocked following allegations of sexual misconduct
Fr. Lafleur has been defrocked following allegations of sexual misconduct

A Roman Catholic priest in Dominica has been “defrocked” by Rome almost two years after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him. Msgr Reginald LaFleur, who has been a Catholic priest for over 30 years, was issued the decree by Bishop of Roseau Gabriel Malzaire on November 6, 2014.

The 60-year-old priest was put on administrative leave almost two years after a woman alleged that he touched her inappropriately on her “bottom and breast” and made “sweet eyes” at her 19 years ago when she was a 12-year-old parishioner. The woman made the accusations against Lafleur in a series of letters to Bishop Gabriel Malzaire, the head of Dominica’s diocese.

Malzaire had sent the accuser to Trinidad & Tobago for counseling as a local church panel investigated her allegations.

In a statement, Bishop Malzaire stated, “You are aware of the allegations that were brought against Msgr Reginald LaFleur almost two years ago. After a Diocesan preliminary investigation, the case was forwarded to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith which has exclusive competence in these matters. The Congregation having reviewed the case authorized the Diocesan Bishop to proceed with an Administrative Penal Process.”

He continued, “The accused cleric was duly informed of this process and invited to take part by leading a defense either personally or through his advocate. Two canonists from outside the Diocese were invited as assessors of the evidence gathered. Because the accused cleric had not answered to the invitation to participate in the process, and in an attempt to preserve the right of defense, another canonist from outside the Diocese was invited to lead a defense on behalf of the accused cleric.”

“After forwarding the judgment of the assessors and the canonist who led the defense on behalf of the accused to Rome the Congregation of the Faith authorized that the penalty of dismissal from the clerical state should be imposed on the accused cleric. The accused cleric was informed of the decision and the imposed penalty on November 6, 2014. He was also informed that he had 60 days in which to appeal the decision to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.”

Bishop Malzaire in an interview said the matter was “difficult” for him and has caused him and the church “much pain.”

“I am sure that one will appreciate that this is one of the most difficult things that I have ever had to do in my life as a Bishop and priest. I have always thought that the real key to leadership is decision making and some times and sometimes, decisions are very difficult and very lonely experience especially in such a situation where nobody want to be in such a situation where a brother comes to such space in his life.”

Malzaire stated that, “I would also say that it is one of the most excruciating pains that I have gone through in my life and it still remains so because, it is something that affects individuals, communities also the church locally and regionally. I always refer to the text of St. Paul in 1st Corinthians when he says when one part of the body is hurt, the whole body is hurt. So anything that happens in a negative way in the church it affects everybody. There is no victory in that, there is no joy, and it’s only pain. We know how much universally the church has been hurt in matters of that sort and the reasons why the church is taking the stance in matters of that situation. So any and every time it happens in any quarter it is painful so there is really no joy in the matter.”

Reginald La Fleur holds a Doctorate in Ministry (DMin) from The Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.

Ask him about the annulment of marriages that is compulsory in the Catholic Church, but not for his chosen few…Dominicans speak now. It was done bold and brave too. yet the many annulments that are there pending for years are disregarded…Sin continues and that’s how they take care of their flock.
Heaven will surely have lots of surprises..

This is not about whether a pries t should be allowed to marry pastor. If the allegations against Fr. Lefleur are true he would be guilty of peadophelia, something entirely different.
By the way, I do think priests should be allowed to marry

As a catholic it hurts to continue seeing this mess in our church. It is not just Catholicism that’s affected. its Christ that’s being attacked from which ever angle it is coming from. I know of the said victim and have heard incredulous stories come from her mouth. Do i know the priest that well no. But listen here Catholics who said that they believe in the Holy Roman Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting be careful what you say on Sundays. For if we believe that the priest during the sacrifice at the alter helps bring forth the change of bread to wine to the body of Christ, then this is one less priest to do so and then the devil would have won. Young lady if you have been hurt, may God pour His peace upon you and make you whole again.
Its just a sad mess. Father La Fleur continue praying, the devil has not finished aiming at you, but God has not forgotten you.

Well I must say this topic has come along very well……….It is my hope that with all this being seen and heard by the general public that all other matters especially the “unjust” one of buggery that we will no longer turn a blind eye and speak out about it. The way I see it yes true the matter was investigated from all technical angles but the fact of the matter is the judgement should be “weighed” cause what is gonna happen from this is that a lot more cases will be brought to the table and then more people will leave due to them not getting any back up. Now while we are on the matter of religious people I would like to see and there are many others within that said church also who would like to see “another priest” as soon as possible “refrain” from preaching politics during his sermon. Matterfact I would see it fit that the bishop him self get to this matter and approach as serious as Fr LaFleur s matter cause this as well will cause a bit of “Stir” within the catholic church of which I myself belong. All in all what is good for the goose is good for the gander and until then pli temp pli twist there shall be more to come especially with the “wrong sided ones”.

So Bishop, allu dismiss this good priest and allu still don’t know for a fact what happened. Allu still cannot prove it. But just to save face and not seem to the world allu hidding molesters allu dismiss one of the best priests we ever had. Someone who gave his whole life to this Chrurch. Allu made him the sacrificial lamb. And don’t hide behind Rome. You know quite well what you all did. I am disappointed in this decision that my Church took. My heart is heavy. You did not get it right this time. Oh no you did not get it right.

Not only that, the young lady remains annonimous, yet the clergyman is exposed worldwide. The truth lies in the hands of our Abled God and the parties involved. Let’s not condemn anyone, but pray for the victims. However, in my humble opinion this could be resolved differently, Bishop.

Get rid of ALL religion that affiliates with Rome. They are wicked, manipulative, deceitful, unworthy of our money and time. Far too long we’ve been sending our hard earned $$s to a foreign church that detests Black folk and suppressed them for so many centuries.

not only this one all religion

    • out of south city
      November 24, 2014

Yes, Producer, I say the same thing. All religions are man-made and have nothing to do with us having eternal lives. We are spirit beings and when we exit this earth we are going back to the cosmos from which we came. We will always exist as spirit beings. Only religions believe in heaven. The only things that will come out of heaven are rain, snow, sleet hail, rockets and bombs. Our ancestors did not have religions. These were forced on them by their enemies, who still have our people bound to their religions. They had spiritual systems which the Europeans destroyed and called them witchcraft. All that we have learned from these people are lies and more lies. They associated Africa with nothing good but all negative and we have believed them to this day.
Can’t we see the wars being fought throughout the world are fought by religious people over land and resources that don’t belong to them? These Jews, who people say are the chosen people of god are nothing but a war-mongering people. The Arabs themselves are not the original people of that land and the so-called middle-east is rightly North-east Africa. The Suez canal was completed in 1869, and that’s what has been used to divide the African land. Every foreigner wants a piece of Africa.
If we take a look at these so-called evangelists, their focus is faith-based, lying to the people, telling them that if they only believe they will receive and all that they are doing is continuing to exploit the masses just as the slave masters did. The more churches there are, the more poverty that exists because those in the pulpit are taking from the masses who are too blind to see. See, the slave masters put their religions in place so that these Uncle Toms would continue their legacy. No longer do they need to be among our people in the churches. They have left that for the clergy to do. They exploit the people by encouraging them to give their money to god and god will bless them and some of them have jets and mansions, while some can’t even make ends meet.
Away with the slave masters’ religions: christianity, Islam and Judaism; they were all involved in the enslavement of our forefathers/foremothers.
      Let the truth be told.
      One Love.

You seem to detest whatever you think “religion” is but you have in your imagination created a belief system with no God, no heaven, and no hell.

What you have are “spirits” that existed first in the cosmos or spirit world. Then they were born in human bodies. When their bodies die they return to the cosmos or spirit world.

Good grief :!: You have a religion more complicated than mine. But is leaves me with a few questions. Please help me with this.

        Who created these spirits :?:

Who decided that they would be born in human bodies and then return to the cosmos when the bodies die :?:

Who energized these spirit movements or actually moved them through space :?:

Now the most important question of all.

How do you know these things :?: I mean by what authority do you make these statements :?:
You have a lot to say for somebody who has no terms of reference.

As a Christian what I believe is based on the Bible. :-D I invite you to visit my website

        http://www.livinghopeministries.ca

Go to the EAGLE COURSE. The very first lesson is called “Let’s Make Sure.” In simple language based entirely upon the Bible it will tell you how to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior so you can KNOW – yes KNOW – that your sins are forgiven and you will go to heaven when you physically die and you soul leave this life.

Then go to ARTICLES. Read my article called “Things that Cannot be Shaken.” These are things we know for sure because God has revealed them to us in the Bible . This is not “religion” whatever that is. No, no, no! This is God’s revealed truth.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

For as long as I can remember the Roman Catholic Church has covered up the sins of its priest and shipped them off to other parishes.

When scandal after scandal erupted in the church world wide costing them millions of dollars they were forced to at least make an appearance of doing something to remedy the situation. Pope Francis announced a zero tolerance towards priests who molest children. The church is feeling the pressure of the media and public opinion to clamp down on priests alleged to be involved in sexual child abuse otherwise they would continue to ignore it as they always have.

Some suspect Father Lafleur is being made an example – a sort of scapegoat – at least to the people of the Caribbean – and are afraid there will be others in different parts of the world.

The RCC is in damage control mode. Is it not true that the present pope is a Jesuit? In a religious organization where the end justifies the means this can be a dangerous situation for its workers.

Had this man been tried in a real court of law and acquitted for lack of evidence or found innocent he would be legally innocent. Anybody accusing him could be sued! It is doubtful if even the church would touch him!

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

If Fr Lafleur did do the things alleged by this lady after all this time, then he needs to face the consequences since she seems to be still affected by his alleged actions. However, on the other hand, it can only be hoped that she was not party to any plan to get Fr Lafleur out of the way if he was seen as a threat to someone’s religious career. That would be just as bad if not worse than what he allegedly did. It would be sinister! Time will tell.

So what type of man are you? Respond to the issue but do not hurl insults at people. Try commenting amicably to your fellow D/cans. Give your opinions but do not insult. Say something nice for a change.
Common Telemaque! You have been doing this for too long. Time for a change of your heart, mind and words.

God knows there are sinners not only in the Catholic Church but in all other churches, in Dominica for that matter. He knows what is occurring behind closed doors. Your sins are hidden from the public domain but not from the eyes of God. Therefore, while you are at it, expose those of the other churches.
The manner you are carrying on, on this Website, it is as if you never sinned and are not sinning. God knows your heart. You will get your fair share of judgment and recompense soon enough when you least expect it.

All people of conscience feel for the victim. We rejoice that she has gotten treatment. Now she has gotten her satisfaction.

Monseignor LaFleur is a highly trained and wise minister of the Gospel. I attended Corpus Christi mass which he celebrated in Grandbay last year. After the homily, he walked down the aisles and took questions from the congregation.

Of course, I asked a question. Did communion wine have to be alcoholic? Fr. LaFleur’s answer was the wisest and most profound that I’ve ever heard from any man of the cloth. To this day, I have never seen any preacher anywhere take questions from the flock after the sermon.

Fr. LaFleur is a friend of mine. He officiated my parents’ 50 anniversary renewal of vows in Maryland some years ago. He is clearly a victim of circumstance as the Catholic church has to atone for many past sins. He just happens to be the sacrificial lamb this time around. I have no doubt that he has much to continue offering humanity.

Reggie, you are greatly loved! May you find great joy in your future endeavours.

You do not know what you have stated. I could explain this bit about marriage but it will take too long. My views are that of a faithful and learned Catholic. I will not expend any time replying to your comments. If you want an answer to that, write Pope Francis in Rome.
However, the advice I have for you, you are obligated to practice the faith. Keep in mind you will die one day. God will not ask you about any priest and their lifestyle or anyone else for that matter. He will ask you about you, how you lived and what have you done with the allotted time He gave you. You will do well to consider this and change your lifestyle for your mortal and spiritual benefit, the latter, an everlasting one.

    November 23, 2014

“O common now, authorities of the Roman Catholic Church, you have overacted here–it is just too bad that this priest will pay for it.”(Elizabeth Xavier).

Well, satan mama, I know you ordered me not to respond to anything you submit on DNO: I complied for a while, but with this one I cannot resist. I do not believe the authorities overreacted, but I believe that is a hypocritical action they took.

If in fact he fondled a twelve year old, in America, if his behavior was reported to the police he would have to prison for a very long time, and when he is released from jail, he would have to register with the state as a sex offender.

The problem I have with the hypocrites in the so called Roman Catholic Church is that more than 90% of those parading as priest are homosexuals, now how can they tolerate homosexuality, and went as far as condoning it, and fired someone for having feelings for women, perversion in any language means the same thing!

Let me tell you this, there are homosexual priest in Rome who have homosexual parties, and they does not hide what the are doing: they damage each other rectum, all night and then go next morning talking about God to people! Sin is sin, I agree, there is no such thing as a small sin and a large sin, but when you call yourself holey, at least you should try to live by the word of God.

Homosexuality, murder, thievery, adultery, Idolater, and the lying tongue of some many people. Nevertheless, according to the Bible the sin of Homosexuality seems to be the one God hates the most, and because of hate for homosexuality, and lesbianism, he destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

We have here a man who all Roman Catholic refer to as ” the holey father” if he is that means he is god! Let us not forget that the Bible teaches that only God is holy, and this father thing, I refuse to comment on. But what is happening here is expected from false worship, and false religion.

If one assaults a little boy, or in this case a girl, it is one of the same thing. Sex should be in every case consensual, between adults, I doubt a twelve year old knows what is consensual sex. So this guy if indeed he touched her the penalty is fair, and we know there is one less homosexual posing as priest in our county; however, the homosexuals in Rome and elsewhere should also be fired too, but I suppose that little god pope cannot fire all of them because he is the king of the homosexual oui!

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

You are not aware of that. Learn something. One of the messages of the Mother of God to a visionary which is always a message for everyone in the world, as God created all and all must face him for their judgment is, “Many souls go to Hell for sins of the flesh.”
As the late US Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen said on one of his programs which are re-broadcasted on Eternal Word Television Network – EWTN, TV and Radio, when you stand before God He will say to you, “I will give you what you loved best on earth.” Obviously, if it is not God, Hell will be your lot. Please everyone, lets put this in its proper context. This is about a VICTIM who was only a 12 YEAR OLD CHILD, and the perpetrator who was an ADULT PRIEST. A 12 year old CHILD for God’s sake. What was he thinking! This behavior should neber be condoned any any circumstances.

Let us all ponder this question for a minute. Women, how would you feel if at the tender age of 12 you, your daughter, or your sister was subjected to that behavior from any man, let alone a priest whom we are taught to respect and hold in high esteem? Gentlemen, I pose the same question to you.
In Dominica, we are much too tolerant of the behavior that sexual predators and perverts perpetrate on our young girls and boys. Most of us have heard or read about the alarming statistics released by our Welfare Division, regarding sexual abuse of children in Dominica This type of behavior has got to stop! The public must stop minimizing the damage, both the mental and physical that sexual abuse has on our children. We are damaging the psyche of the future generation.
Remember, we do not have all the facts. The evidence was reviewed by an impartial committee, and at this stage, we should all accept the results and pray that the VICTIM can now experience closure to this unfortunate situation.

The time frame and behaviour pattern does match.

This is the huge problem .. The victims feel they will not believed.. Also, you will notice in the Bishop’s remarks that there is no mention about the pain of the victim, and there is not mention of him reaching out to others who may still be suffering in silence and shame.

The problem at this point in time in Dominica, lies not with Fr Lafleur nor the Government. The problem lies within every single one of us and our tendency to be too damn presumptuous. From the moment this situation was broadcasted, this was handled incorrectly. Fr Lafleur was tried and found guilty before all the facts of the case was presented. Was he ever treated fairly, with dignity, and respect? The Catholic church should for once in its life, practice what it preaches. Do not condemn before all the facts are presented. What were the contents presented to him? Is it that he felt perhaps – what was the point of responding if the bishop had already condemned him publicly? Look at our society – so small, so petty, so small minded. Our society loves to bring a man down – this is the Dominican legacy – their birthright – always a slave. Mentally locked. Perpetually anguished. Faces distorted as they condemn – yet still just attend a day of worship to be seen – just to dress up. But the souls remain empty shallow shells. Wallowing in condemnation but no one – absolutely no one wants to take a good hard look at their selves. A few quick prayers may not be enough – not if our hearts insist on remaining so shallow.

People. People. People. Let Fr Lafleur be. Do you hear? There is an excellence reason when silence speaks. It chants. It strides. Silence will reach its destination. Let Fr Lafleur be.

A cardinal of the Right Grand Cross of Merit of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George (of the Catholic Church?) and other members of the Freemason, Lodge, illuminati did the dishonours at a ceremony on the same Wednesday Skerritt disclosed the Election date.

Did the Bishop ever inform the Lodge Order about the factual corrupt practices taking place on island? Mano and his wife are Christians who were firebombed. an attempted murder of fellow innocent Christians. We patriotic Dominicans know why.

The secret sale of passports, diplomatic and otherwise. Quick enrichment not compatible with salaries, Bobols, take over/heavy influence of institutions, e.g., blocking electoral reforms that would ensure FREE and FAIR elections, and so on, and so on.

Who invited that Order of Saint George? The Catholic Church or Gov’t?

In light of all the evil ways, bad governance, corruption, quick amassing of wealth by dubious means, in public Office by authorities, election in 2014 without Voter ID Cards and a complete cleaning of the Voters’ list, and many , many more illegal practices,, the illuminati, in our face, sashing, applauding the infallible christian. “Almost two years after a woman alleged that he touched her inappropriately on her “bottom and breast” and made “sweet eyes” at her 19 years ago when she was a 12-year-old parishioner–News Article

I struggle with that silly complaint above as a reason to defrock a priest; this sounds more like the decision of small children as far as I am concerned.

In the first place that lady was 12 years old at the time, she should have been under the supervision of some adult–especially her parents, so why did she not complain to them at the time of that so called assault; why wait till she is 19 years to do so.? Sweet eyes! O common now, authorities of the Roman Catholic Church, you have overacted here–it is just too bad that this priest will pay for it.

I know a priest at home–I will not mention his name–there was a time he kissed me on the lips in front of fellow congregation; he said to them that he had given me a holy kiss–I know that neither the others and most of all not me, believed what he said–I would have been my late teens at that time, but this behavior had no effect on me. And even if it did, I would not wait for 7 years to complain about it; I would have gotten over by then –that priest would have to know his place right away! One way or the other.

“I always refer to the text of St. Paul in 1st Corinthians when he says when one part of the body is hurt, the whole body is hurt” news Article

Mr Bishop you need to be careful in speaking the Bible, for your spiritual strength comes from its message–if at all you have any of that strength. 1st Corinthians is the whole Book, it speaks by its chapters, which are 1 to 16. I believe that you are speaking about 1st. Corinthians 1: 12–that is where Paul refers to the body as He teaches the gifts of Holy Spirit in us, the Church, When it comes to the Bible it is imperative that your congregation know the “Truth” Jesus has cautioned us saying–It is the Spirit who gives Life; the flesh profits nothing! The words which I speak are Spirit and they are Life. John 6:63

The words of Jesus Christ are written in the Bible; as the Shepherd, we need to be careful in presenting that Word (message) to the people–if at all we, ourselves, know it. Perhaps if the Roman Catholic Church was grounded in the Word of Life–the message of Life through Jesus Christ, there would be a lot less of the fleshly mentality and sinful chaos among the people–both the leaders and the congregation.

The apostle Paul also teachers: “For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is Life and peace” Romans 8: 5-6

However, your idea that it is not natural for a man who is “not homosexual” to live a life with no sex, why did you use the term “not homosexual” you are not saying that a homosexual does not have sex are you?

And since you believe in God, you should also believe in His Word, the message of Life in the Holy Bible. And that message at the Book of Revelation, written by the apostle John, it tells us that God has chosen 144, 000 men to rule with Jesus in Eternity, those men will be virgins, as the message says about them: “These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins” Revelation 14: 4

Celibacy is a stature of Life by which both men and women live without sexual conducts–Celibacy is a gift from Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples that if the could live a celibate Life–meaning without a wife– they should go ahead and live it–that is to say that God, Himself think highly about the person who is living a Life without sexual conducts, and this practice is very natural–do not be fooled.

  58. WELL
    November 23, 2014

I will try my best to be objective and look at both sides of the story. Any kind of abuse is wrong and we all know that we were raised in a society of ‘cover up’ and ‘don’t tell’. I would assume that this young woman felt she had no one to go to at the time of the alleged incident which explains why it took so long before reporting it. I read that she wrote numerous letters about the alleged incident. It stated inappropriate touching and my humble OPINION is that although an uninvited touch can be a source of discontent, how much damage, emotional and psychological, can a touch cause that you made it a mission to get the alleged perpetrator punished? It is not to put weight on the kind of abuse but we have to be realistic.

On the flip side, this is a man. A verile male. And thus comes into play the part in the bible where a man should leave his mother and cling to his wife. God made it so that a man should live with a woman and when we adjust laws to suit our own beliefs, we create monsters. If the church would allow those who want to marry to do so, it would prevent many young boys and girls from being hurt. I think celibacy should be a choice. The church has decided that in order to serve God in that capacity you must be celibate. According to the alleged victim, this happened several years ago. Is the man beyond forgiveness? What about those who continue to predate? It is not a case of being a hunter or predator or repeat offender. I can firmly say, if it was my child, there would be no bleach to wash him clean. I just think at this stage in both their lives, an apology would suffice. Defrocking Fr. LaFleur is going to accomplish nothing. It will not erase what has been done. I am guessing that the alleged victim feels she will attain some form of relief by not seeing him in an official capacity. That will not erase the memories.

What this whole thing has succeeded in doing, is to dig up old wounds, open up a can of worms and now permanently destroy two lives. I think everyone is open to forgiveness and change. I am so disappointed by the actions and stance of Bishop Malzaire Now you want to downplay and downgrade the issue and say how sorry you are about the outcome. Well, when the issue was brought up to you, what actions did you take? Oh yes, you sent the young woman for counseling in Trinidad. You also forwarded the case to the highest authorities so they could do the dirty deed for you. It now looks like they decided and not you. Well Bishop, when you decided not to handle the issue yourself and to forward it to your bosses, you sealed his fate. You knew, you knew, you knew what they would do to him.

In conclusion, I would just like to say good luck to Fr. Reggie on his future endeavours. You are an educated man. You are human and you have faltered but the ultimate healer will forgive you. We are all lucky that our future is in the hand of a forgiving God and not a judgemental man. To the young woman, I hope you achieved the desired result and your pain will now disappear. Dominicans stop the ignorance. this is about child molestation by people in positions of authority. Teachers ,ministers of government, the church, fathers other relatives, it is time that Dominican society stop looking the other way and defend our children and protect them from child predators. Time parents realise that they have to protect their children and stop worshipping priest and pastor , time the PM stop sending our tax money on churches who abuse our young for life. Well done but this is the tip of the iceberg, time Dominica come out of the darkness into light and women and children are protected. The men who say women are made to give comfort to men yes, but when they are adult and can give consent. Child abuse is abuse. so if you are as guilty as the priest, rather than look for a scapegoat in homosexuals, stop your abusive behaviour towards young women or any women. Time to start respecting others be they young or old boys or girls. No body with a reputation for abusing women or children, be it sexual harassment or physical violence should be in position of power, not teacher, police, civil servant, minister of government PM.

I wholeheartedly endorse what you stated. The issue here is Fr. Lafleur and not abused children.
I do not believe that woman who brought the complaint against Fr. Lafleur and after all those years. Something is radically wrong with that woman. She needs to have her head examined. After she lived her life with other men, she choose Fr. Lafleur as her scapegoat. The devil made her do it. God will take care of her in time. My instinct is such that I am not always wrong.

The word ‘alleged’ still being used in this incident regardless of the outcome makes me wonder.. Did he really do it? If it is a proven fact why use the word ‘allege’. This only means to me that the outcome is not fully proven.. This just doesn’t sit right with me. Ever since this story surfaced , i have never believed it .. It is just not believable, a person who takes this long (i mean 19 years ,seriously!! )to reveal something like that either is lying or plain and simple want something. But that is life for you .. we all fall some way some how be it as a result of our own doing or as a result of others mischief.. However God is a just and forgiving God , he sees it all and he knows it all.. If this so called ” allegation is true , Fr. La Fleur has already been forgiven (i doubt he is guilty, just saying) but Alas for this young lady… I hope she has not lied. Because destroying a persons life and hard work is not worth it to make one’s self feel better. Fr La Fleur, you are in my prayers !!

I would not call her a lady. She does not deserve this honor. Anyone who could scandalize another’s name and a priest at that, does not deserve to be called a lady. Those who know her know her reputation. Lady is reserved for women of honor and of good repute.

I am truly shocked by those people who seem to be saying it’s ok for a girl that age to be molested and question why she took so long to speak up. Obviously they do not understand the dynamics of sexual molestation against children. I recall hearing a lot of stories about Dominican men in general, not just the priests.

Secondly, the priest, if he is indeed guilty, ought to be in Jail. However, if the church finds it necessary to dismiss him, it is unbearably cruel to cut off a 60-year-old man with no source of support. They should provide some small pension.

Hello and good evening my people. Well I read about this a week ago on Russia Today and I was wondering why it’s not in the press in Dominica. I am not a follower of any Religion but how can one prove this allegation where this allegedly occurred nineteen years ago and there isn’t any witness. The Catholic Church is under a lot of pressure because so many allegation of Sodomy and Sexual Abuse have been proven. Many of those cases are costing the church millions of dollars in civil liabilities therefore they have to protect themselves against any further liabilities.

The Catholic Church is a very strange Religion and it is Like a Church within a Church. God sanction Priest to be married. In the old Testament God set aside the Tribe of Levi for the Priesthood and they were allowed to be married I believe that this practice of not allowing priest to be married is not of God but of man and is a Pagan practice . Now the matter with Father LaFleur is settle , there is another notorious Priest who abuses the Pulpit and is preaching an entirely different Gospel. He cast doubts as to whether he gets his guidiance from the Holy Spirit or not. In most churches and even the Seventh Day Adventis the only offence that they have zero tolerance for is a sexual one but lying, cheating, gossiping, casting stones at people while preaching, and using the Gospel as a cloak of Malice is the Order of the day. in these Last Days the church in general is in a very sorry state.

What do you really know and about the New Testament when Our Lord Jesus Christ came to earth and taught us according to his teachings. If you are only concerned about the Old Testament, if you are a Christian I suggest that you concern yourself with the New Testament.
We Christians are New Testament people since the Birth and Teaching of Our Lord Jesus Christ. I am not insinuating that we should ignore the Old Testament; by no means. However we must be knowledgeable of what Our Lord Jesus Christ told us for our mortal and spiritual benefit.
This is what He stated about those who follow him. This pertains to the priesthood, the priests not marrying. Read carefully. If you do not comprehend it, pray to God for enlightenment and graces. Note the following, what Our Lord Jesus Christ stated:

Matthew 19:11-12 – Marriage and Divorce – Not all can accept (this) word, but only those to whom that is granted. Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it.
Matthew 19:29 – The Rich Young Man – Everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of My Name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life.

The Ten Commandments. The Law was given through Moses. Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ.

it seems to me you who calls yourself the facts, have a problem with sex and marriage . sex was created by God and marriage was also instituted by him. if someone makes a personal choice not to marry or having sex then so be it. but to have a church which imposes this unatural law on priest is against God and nature some of them after taking the vows they go around fornicating and buggering young boys.

It’s amazing how Dominicans can be so quick to come online and condemn their very own when they know there are worst things happening behind closed doors in their bedrooms. ALL THOSE WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE. Ft LaFleur may be defrocked or whatever from the church but they will not take away the special gift he has received. He just needs to cast his burdens on to the Lord and things will be alright. Maybe it is time for him to move on with his life. He never said he was the Messiah….he is human just like you and I. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. The word ‘Forgiveness’ has no meaning these days. “I will get you back” is the new theme

    • November 29, 2014

      My own understanding is this.

Everything we believe and practice must line up with the New Testament to be valid. There is not one verse of scripture that says a church leader cannot be married. Both the words of Christ and the writings of Paul indicate that God does call some individuals to the single life so they can devote themselves more completely to His work. With this comes the grace to live in moral purity. This is the true gift of celibacy! However, it is a personal matter between the individual and the Lord. It was never mandatory for a minister to remain single in the early church. Paul taught that marriage is also a gift from God. Forced celibacy is not only contrary to nature . It is against the Word of God. It is strictly a human invention and has never worked well. The New Testament shows that Peter and some of the other other apostles were married. In fact Paul wrote that a bishop (pastor or church elder) must be the husband of one wife. This does not mean the man must be married. The emphasis is on the word “one”. Assuming that he would be married Paul is saying that he must have only one wife. He must not be a polygamist.

However as the years rolled by the mainstream church departed more and more from the pure teachings and practices of the New Testament in the first century. The smaller congregations had come to look to the pastors of the larger congregations (who were by then called “bishops”) for guidance.
The bishop of Rome gained prominence since Rome was the capital of the Roman Empire. In 607 A.D. Boniface 3 accepted the title “Universal Bishop” which had been offered to the then bishop of Rome Gregory 1 in 604 A.D. by the wicked emperor Phocas but was refused. So for all practical purposes Bonifice 3 became the first actual pope in 607 A.D. The congregations that accepted this power structure became the Roman Church or the Roman Catholic (Universal) Church.

In 1079 that Hildebrand known as Pope Gregory 3 ruled that priests could not marry. It was hard to enforce. The the Council of Trent confirmed this in 1545 passing severe penalties on priests who transgressed their rule of forced celibacy. The reasons were more practical than spiritual. The church found it easier to financially support a single priest than a priestly family. It was also easier to move a single priest around than a man with a wife and children. Added to this is the fact that when a priest died the church wanted to receive his earthly possessions rather than have them left to his family.

If only our Catholic friends had been Bible reading Bible believing people. The Word of God would have been a lamp for their feet and a light for their path. They would have avoided so much hurt and pain.
But thank God there are congregations that seek to follow the simple teachings and practices of the New Testament. Theses are places with an open door and a light burning in the window where the good news is preached – the gospel – that men and women can be saved by grace through faith in Christ by simply trusting what HE did for us on the cross apart from our own “good works” or human efforts! We only need to BELIEVE and RECEIVE Christ as our personal Savior.

      Please read the following scriptures:

      I Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 1:16, Ephesians 2:8,9, St. John 1:12, 1 John 5:11,12, Revelation 3:20.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

I would like to know on what real evidence they had to fire the priest . As far as i know there was no physical evidence etc, just her word . Did the priest admit to committing the act and they are not letting us know ?I truly find it hard that , that particular priest went after a 12 old child, only if she lied about her age and she allowed him to do that and 19 years later she did not get the attention she wanted from him and started getting jealous of him and other woman and decided to tell a story . Well i always blame the Catholic church for preventing these men from being married and enjoyed what god created for them. Well Priest you are free to be with what God created for you WOMAN , Good luck. I am not a believer in the catholic church , but i know this priest around for a while and i know how women are in the church especially when a new priest comes to the parish, I was once a child in the catholic church and i would find myself sitting at the front so the priest could see me , because i was just infatuated .

    November 22, 2014

Am I missing something? So where does FORGIVENESS comes in, for the Bishop in this alleged story??? ” Bishop Malzaire stated, “You are aware of the allegations that were brought against Msgr Reginald LaFleur almost two years ago. The Bishop should know better than anyone else, the benefit of FORGIVENESS, Malzaire stated that, “I would also say that it is one of the most excruciating pains that I have gone through in my life and it still remains so because, it is something that affects individuals. Forgiving Father Reggie, the Bishop would have forgiven his own self, and so his pain today would be less, He’ll now live with the pain of UNFORGIVNESS for the rest of his life, that is Bishop Malzaire.

Matthew 18: 21-22 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times? “Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” DOESNT THE CATHOLIC CHURCH PRACTICE & TEACH FORGIVENESS????Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. FATHER REGGIE, U WERE DEFROCKED IN THE EYES OF YOUR PEOPLE, BUT NOT IN THE EYES OF GOD. 7. John 8:7

There are many men in Dominica and elsewhere who have taken advantage of women and young girls, even children. This week, I had such a conversation about this with someone. I stated, if all those women, some who are adults came forward and lodged a complaint, how many men, married and single would be implicated. Some of those could be your past and present ancestors. Therefore, be careful of stones that you throw.

“The 60-year-old priest was put on administrative leave almost two years after a woman alleged that he touched her inappropriately on her “bottom and breast” and made “sweet eyes” at her 19 years ago when she was a 12-year-old parishioner. The woman made the accusations against Lafleur in a series of letters to Bishop Gabriel Malzaire, the head of Dominica’s diocese.”(DNO).

Based on the quote above, we know that this man is not a homosexual, if the allegations of his accuser are true!

I am not a supporter of False religion, such as this so called Roman Catholic Church, what I do not understand is the firing of this man, when in fact this so called pope condones homosexuality, there are homosexuals priest out there with bible pretending they are presenting God to their followers. Would the pope who is a homosexual himself prefer the man ravage the rectum of some boy, or man than expressing and having feelings for a woman? Women are created by God to be a comforter to the man, that is why after he created Adam from the dust of the earth, and breath life into him, he decided that Adam should not live alone among the creatures of the earth, birds, and other species of animals, and so out of Adams body he extracted a rib and created woman, to be with Adam.

The Roman Catholic has denied these men, these so called priest with human feelings the comfort of a woman’s body, yet they condone homosexuality, which God himself condemns!

I would rather tolerate a so called priest who touched a woman breast, and other parts of her body than dealing with a homosexual. Now, in our culture the winking of the eye in the direction of someone; particularly a woman, is termed sweet; eye that is nonsense, how do we define sweet eye, since there is no such word as “sweet eye.”

That word may only exits in the Dominican vocabulary, If she said he sweet talk here that can be defined; nevertheless, the whole thing is total nonsense. If at age twelve (you are a child) and you discover someone who could be your biological father is making sexual advances towards you by winking his eye, your duty should be to inform you parent about it, and let them deal with the perverted priest. If you stock around until you matured, and have mature breast, and a bag of sugar you know located where, and still associate yourself with some you know is attracted to you sexually, from the time you were a baby, everything that the man did to you is your fault!

I believe she may have had an affair with that man and something went wrong between them and she has now decides to cry foul, I bet if he offered her money to remain quiet the scandal would not have surfaced!

Child sex abuse has nothing to do with being homosexual or heterosexual. — It is about a sense of entitlement and power over a vulnerable child.
Also, sex abuse with a child is not an affair. it is a crime, and for good reason. It causes lifelong pain and suffering to those innocent children.

      • November 28, 2014

        Judy Jones:

You have said “Child sex abuse has nothing to do with being homosexual or heterosexual.” Please allow me to address this statement.

I was raised in a town of 17,000 and attended a large elementary school. Naturally most of the men in town were heterosexuals. We knew of three homosexuals who repeatedly – again and again – molested young boys. They were the talk of the schoolyard. To this day these men are remembered by the boys who are men now with families. We never heard of these men being reported to the police until eventually one man was arrested. He owned a horse ranch and used the business to his advantage. The ranch was shut down. In all the years I lived in that town I heard of no similar case involving a heterosexual man.

It is often argued that most child sexual molestation cases involve heterosexual men. This may be true because there are more heterosexual men. A much smaller percentage of men are homosexual. However, two things should be noted . (1) A homosexual paedophile will molest more children than a heterosexual offender. (2) A homosexual paedophile is more prone to molest the same child repeated times.

In 1992 the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy reported that “Homosexual men are three times more likely to engage in paedophilia.”

Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons – a US psychiatrist – has stated “Every priest whom I have treated who was involved with children had previously been involved in adult homosexual relationships.”

Alfred Kinsey found in 1948 that 37% of gay men admitted to having sex with children.

In the Roman Catholic Church we see a world wide example of the connection between homosexuality and child sex abuse. The majority of RC priests are heterosexual. Yet the percentage of heterosexual priests who molest little girls – though it does happen – is low by comparison. On the other hand it is the smaller number of homosexual priests who molest boys who have created a world wide scandal and costs the church millions of dollars.

It should not come as a surprise that a higher percentage of homosexuals than heterosexuals are inclined towards paedophilia. Once they have broken the taboo against same sex relationships and entered that dark world it is easier for them to take one more step into forbidden territory.

To those who would argue that the priests who molest little boys are “paedophiles” not “homosexuals” I say “GET REAL!” Where you have a male to male sexual relationship at any age you have homosexuality! If they were not homosexuals they would be going after girls not boys. Not all homosexuals are paedophiles. But studies like the one I have quoted show that homosexuals are three times as likely to be paedophiles.

Not having a wife does not turn a priest into a homosexual or a paedophile. They are homosexuals before they enter the priesthood. Homosexual men are attracted to the priesthood for a number of reasons. (1) It provides a perfect covering for his homosexuality. Nobody is going to ask him why he is not married or why he isn’t dating. (2) A homosexual is not planning to get married anyway so the single life is not a sacrifice for him. (3) The priesthood brings him into what seems to be innocent contact with an ample supply of young men or little boys. (4) The Catholic homosexual knows and rightly so that homosexuality is a sin. He believes that by his life of priestly service and prayer he will have a better chance to be forgiven and receive salvation. Because of the “good” he will be doing he feels God will be more apt to overlook his failings.

Your comment is wrong on so many levels Mr Telemaque, that it’s difficult to know where to begin, but let’s start with your concluding statement. You may not yet have been enlightened by the campaign to educate our fellowmen about the definition of child molestation, but it have never been legal in Dominica for a 40 yr old man to get sexually involved with a 12 yr old. Never – not even in the days when Britannia ruled. It is impossible for a child of that age to legally give consent, no matter what words come out of her mouth. So 12 yr old child cannot “have an affair” with anybody. That is rape, pure and simple. And it’s never legal except perhaps in the backwoods of some stone-age nation.

Maybe tomorrow I’ll come back to discuss your misrepresentations regarding my Church, but for today I think this comment is important enough to stand on it’s own.

Francisco Telemaque, you sound like a damn pervert yourself.

    • The Facts
      November 22, 2014

Telemaque, the Catholic Church is not a false religion. It was established 2000 years ago by Our Lord Jesus Christ when He said, “Thou art Peter and upon this Rock I will build My Church.” He did not say, you will build your church as some have done.
On the night before He was betrayed, He took bread and wine, blest them and gave them to his disciples, saying, “Take eat and drink all of you. This is my body and blood, given up for you. Do this in commemoration of Me.”
This is what the Catholic Church is doing daily at all Holy Masses throughout the world in addition to its religious devotions. Furthermore, were it not for those Holy Masses and devotions, with all the sins committed in the world, Our Almighty Father would have rained down his fire and brimstones on the earth a long time.
Catholics do not expect you to comprehend this because you are not a Catholic. What you and some others perceive the Catholic Church to be is not what it is. When you die, if not before you die, the truth will be revealed to you.
The Catholic Church has many enemies and you have projected that you are one of them. There are many false religions in the world, those that were formed after the Catholic Church. Our Lord Jesus Christ did not establish any one of them. Perform a research of all those churches that were formed in the world. If you are broadminded you will realize they are not true churches. These have caused divisions, disunity and animosity. God knows this too well.
Be careful what you state about the Pope and Priests. The Pope is not a homosexual or a pedophile. Not all priests are. There are some very holy Priests. In every institution, there are always bad eggs. You find them in the married and single life as well. Why is it that there are so many marital relationships breaking up to the point of divorces? Those who escape from injuries and fatalities in those marriages are extremely fortunate. Dominica is no exception.
I do not expect you to listen to Catholic TV and Radio of all. If you did, I would hope with the help of God and his graces you probably would become enlightened.
As for this woman, if you recall those articles, some have stated that she is not all there in her head. Her mother and herself want money from the Church. Why did she not report the other men whom she knew during her lifetime that she had affairs with? Surely, they must have approached her at any age. Why the Priest? Ask yourself that question. God will deal with her and her mother in time.
As Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Let he who is without sin caste the first stone.” And, “Judge not that you may not be judged accordingly and two-fold.”
While some that are in the world are lambasting the Catholic Church and the priesthood, they are consistently sinning. God knows that. Therefore, when others make such statements about the Clerics, they must examine their conscience and their lifestyle. God will judge them and their judgment may not be a happy one for all eternity.

I’m assuming you know that telling any adult who himself or herself is a “bidoh l’eglise” would not have advanced her cause, right? I’m assuming you know that, if not, I can tell you it likely would not have worked. What that woman has said happened to her could be repeated by too many women in DA. I’m reading the comments with great curiousity.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        November 23, 2014

You know I understand your point, I do not know what this word “bidoh le’gise” means in English, as you may already know that Wesley people do speak patios, if you find someone there fluent in patios that person is from some other village, the same applies to Marigot.

I any event I you are saying some people who kiss up to so called priest, would not believe the word of their child over that of the they believe is a man of God.

I experience that when I was a young boy while I was a Cub scout. This man so called priest was stationed in our village, the time came when he need a bell-ringer, the priest encouraged the parents to let their son, about nineteen, or twenty years old to live with him on church premises. It turned out the priest is a homosexual, he assaulted the guy. So one night after the our Scout meeting, about 8: 00 P. M. when we all were getting ready to go our separate way, we noticed the assaulted went and sat on the Church steps, The Scout Master knew something was wrong.

We, stopped to find out what was his problem, he told us the priest kissed him and there was no way he was going to sleep in the church house again, the Scout Master ask him why not home, said he told his parent what transpired, they did not believe him, all they cared about is their association with the priest, and their son ringing the bell.

And let me stress here in the fifty’s to some people when a white person, priest, or as the call their parson visit their home, they automatically felt they were different to other blacks, so come hell or high waters, the priest could have murdered the son, he they may have contended the homosexual was not responsible for his death.

I contend at twelve years old, if she realized she was sexually assaulted now that she is in her thirties: why complain now, why she did not complain at age twenty, or as soon as she became and mind you I am not defending that perverted man, because I do not believe any body in their right mind would fabricate such, unless they are pathological! Nevertheless I believe has an ulterior motive

        November 23, 2014

Which is more important? A vow to some so called pope who emphasize celibacy, the word of God which instructed humans to “go into the world and multiply?” How can a man multiply, as far as children are concerned without a wife?

A man is supposed to multiply in wealth, as in money; and materialism. Humans are supposed to reproduced human life so that the earth can be inhabited by humans. The Bible also teaches “some men are born Eunuchs.” Those are men who can live without a woman, and are by no means homosexual, however, they have no desire or feelings to be with a woman.

And the story of the Ethiopian Eunuch is well documented in the Bible!

Peter, and the disciples who followed Jesus when he was on earth, had wife’s and children. We know that for a fact for the scriptures said: When Jesus came into the house of Peter mother-in- law: if Peter was not a married man he could not have a mother-in-law, search the scriptures, you may read the actual scriptures a bit differently; since the way I explained it is not verbatim as in the Bible.

As long as people deviate from the word of God and follow the philosophy of man, there shall always be problems such as this; for all man are born in sin! One should not allow any so call pope to deprived them of having a wife and children, that is not the will of God.

They also take vow of poverty, God never told anybody to take a vow of poverty, he said the poor will always be among you; he will allow you to do whatever you wish, do nothing to accumulate and you will suffer the consequences of ben poor, but it not the will of God that any human he created should be poor. If all the members of the Roman Catholic Church in Dominica were rich, there would be no need for Skerrit to snatched five ($500,000.00) thousand dollars of taxpayers and give it to his boy bishop, causing so much controversies in Dominica. If all your members are living on starvation money, there will not be enough to contribute to the church via tithes and offerings which could have done the work need on the building!

In the case of the accuse man, I am careful not to refer to him as father, nor priest, because I can debunk all of that based on the word of the God, he is not the father of anyone nor a priest!

He should have a wife, rather than trying to live without having sexual intercourse with women: for that is one of the reason he created a man, and a woman. How can someone condone homosexuality, which God hate, that is the sin God hates the most. The man has done nothing wrong, except if he knows that he cannot live without having sex with a woman, he should get married. There are so called priest who are married here in the United States, and in Europe also.

I hope when a grown man touches your 12 year old daughter on his underdeveloped breasts in a sexual gesture that even a grown woman would call harassment, your response will be different. You are an embarrassment for thinking that it is ok for him to do such a thing. And that does not prove that he is straight he could very well be bisexual. if he is guilt at best he is a pedophile and preys on the most vulnerable amongst us.

      • December 1, 2014

I have read numerous accounts of men who molested both little boys and little girls.

I refer to them as homosexuals if they have an attraction to males of any age even if they are also attracted to females. However, a psychologist or psychiatrist may reserve the word “homosexual” for a person who has an exclusive sexual attraction to his or her own gender and refer to somebody who swings both ways as bisexual.

Some homosexuals are also bisexual. A homosexual paedophile who assaults both boys and girls will usually show a homosexual tendency by assaulting a much larger number of boys than girls.

Homosexual paedophiles are the most difficult to treat and almost impossible to cure. This is especially true if the case is one of a homosexual paedophile involved in incest.

I am an evangelist with a pastoral counselor certificate who has worked as a pastoral counselor. I’ve had my share of both success and failure. I am not a mental health professional. Although I am aware of some studies published in journals much of what I share comes from observation and reading case histories. I am not educated in the behavioral sciences. I have a doctorate in Biblical studies and believe the Word of God holds the answer to this very complex and dark side of human nature. Jesus Christ came “to seek and to save them that are lost.” His shed blood has the power to wash the vilest sinner clean and His Spirit can set men and women free and give all who believe and call upon Him a new beginning.

Anansi and Francisco: Interesting points of view. This issue has nothing to do with vows or sexual preferences or male sexual desire. It has everything to do with the Church’s new and aggressive approach to the accusations of impropriety by priests.
This is not the first time that a priest has been accused of or involved in improper sexual behaviour. In the old days the priest would have been sent back to France, if the evidence could not be rationalized, hidden or someone bullied into silence. Not withstanding Pope Francis’ administrative determination to do the right thing, the old way of doing things is expensive.

I know nothing of this woman and will not assume that her accusation was malicious or vengeful. What I will assume, however is that the evidence against LaFleur must have been overwhelming. This does not mean that he has not done very good things for very many families, girls and women in Dominica; as does the religious Church. What I do know for certain is that these days the concoction of priest, sex, women, church and law will create an explosive bowel movement. This woman has a voice and it is being heard and taken seriously.

Now that the Church has, by example, taken the lead in acting against the exploitation or children in Dominica, I wonder who else is will to put the pressure on the rest of society to do the same and effect a similar outcome. If every woman in her 50s would come out and identify every man in a position of power and control who in any way engaged them sexually when they were still children will the people of Dominica support their voices? Start at the top: government officials, police officers, lawyers, doctors, employers, family members. It was against the law then. This is bigger than LaFleur. Yes. LaFleur is a priest, but neither he nor the Church make the laws and the penalties for protecting women and children from exploitation. The politicians do. The biggest danger here is for people in the society to become self righteous and point fingers at LaFleur and the Church. LaFleur will be disgraced and eventually disappear. What about others?

During a relevant conversation this week, someone informed me of a D/can man who would give a little girl a ride to school. He would constantly molest her. The parents found out and of course were angry. One promised to sue him. Since he is a well-known person, they avoided exposing him and he may have settled financially with her father (parents).
You know, in those days in D/ca, suing such men were unheard of, even today. I was informed that he is a church-goer. Therefore, there are many who are guilty of molesting women and young girls who pose as decent gentlemen.
Many young girls were impregnated by adult men. If there was such a law in D/ca but for a small country, many would have been arrested, convicted and imprisoned.
They expect the Church to take action on those priests but the law of the land will not take action against those men who abuse underage children and adults, the latter if it was not consensual. This law has to be reformed.
Consider countries which allow two men and two women to get married. They are also allowed to adopt children. If this is not also child abuse, bringing up children under such abnormal and immoral conditions, what is? These are also the people I would arrest and imprison for their sins against nature and of God. Much more could be stated about that.

A trying time for the Catholic church indeed. I was born into that church, received my education from that church. It is a church that did, and still does s lot of good things but i is time for them to recognize that their membership has come off age and engage with them in a democratic way. It is not realistic to expect members to blindly accept their dogmas for instance, like the infallibility of the Pope. They should not be afraid to face these issues and discuss them frankly so that the church does not ossify but remains relevant to people in the present age.

Judy, I’m not a supporter of the Bishop but the victim as you call her .. well that’s what black mail is all about and sometimes it never work so you should have a talk with her concerning the monies she was asking for. I’m not going to say she is a lier or not but she have to entre the court of the almighty God and testify so she can be healed.

You are right Judy. The bishop should have said something about the victim. To do that right away he would have to step away from his personal sadness and pain for losing one of his priestly brothers. I am sure he will say something, if he has not already done so.

I would like you to also raise the issue of the sexual molestation of children in the society as large. Ask your women friends of their experience. Some men who are now in powerful positions may have done some molesting. Someone needs to point at them too. This is a bigger issue than LaFleur. Time to start asking questions.

    November 22, 2014

A touch on her buttocks and a sweet eye? Is there any mark on her buttocks to so conclude? who were the witnesses who saw what was alleged?

Was Fr. Lafleur any threat to anyone within, re. position due to his higher learning.

Didn’t she accuse at least 3 other men of sexual abuse?
No excusing any culprit for such acts. I am still reading through the lines.

We live in a funny, funny world. Justice for all. What about officials in Gov’t allegedly accused of sexual abuse of our women. facts are there to prove. Young women have openly, publicly come out and expose the abuse. Some others are too scared to do the same. What about all the money-laundering, corruption in the society by “big boys?” What about the firebombing, attempted murder of two innocent elders? What about the 42 charges of fraud filed, yet no case up to now. What about…….. what about…………? are those not criminal offences worse?

      November 23, 2014

The problem with some authorities, some people of the world, women approach them with a story which occurred years ago and immediately they believe it. There is no statute of limitations for this. There should be. What happens to, “It takes two?”
You must have heard what occurred to Bill Cosby. Take note from this. These women are bent on destroying men, their reputation and career. I visualize their end will not be a good one. They do not forget and do not forgive if what they accuse the men of are true. How they expect God to forgive them? Furthermore, they do this to reap an exorbitant sum of money from the men. Money could be the root of all evil.
I have concluded that it is a scandalous age whereby some women come out with all sorts of stories about men. Why did they not come forth sooner? Why wait 5, 10, 20 or more years? Those cases should not be given credence. They should be thrown out. To save face and additional criticisms, the Catholic Church had no alternative but to take action. It is not even proven that he committed what he is accused of.

    Something to keep in mind—-
Child predators are very cunning and manipulative. They know every trick on how to groom, threaten, lie, and put the fear of god into their victims and sometimes even their family members. They also appear to do a lot of goods things, they can be very charismatic and you may think they would never harm anyone. They have to be this way, in order to not get caught and to continue to abuse. They devote lots of time and energy building trust with their victims by giving them money and gifts. They tend to make their prey feel that they are special and loved.

Sexual predators are often powerful and well-loved, we must overcome the dangerous myth that because someone is successful or warm or caring, he or she couldn’t have done that! It would be comforting if those who preyed on the vulnerable were obvious social misfits whose appearance would somehow set off alarm bells and give us the willies or the creeps. They rarely do. Usually, predators are among the last people we would suspect of sexually violating others. At a party, the predator isn’t some oddball sitting alone in a corner because others feel uncomfortable with him. Most often, the predator is the guy throwing the party.

And we must stop thinking that because a person is old, that somehow he/she is automatically safe. It’s just irresponsible to endanger kids by assuming an adult is harmless simply because he or she may be losing hair, wearing glasses, using hearing aids or walking with a cane. These can be signs of advancing age, but they are not signs that an individual is safe..

Child predators can never be allowed near children. So let’s hope that any others who may have knowledge or may have been harmed by Reginald LaFleur, will find the courage to come forward and contact law enforcement.no matter how long ago it happened.

Judy Jones, I totally agree with everything you have said, and as a child protection officer, It makes me sad how all these people seems to be attacking the young lady for speaking out, and seems to be on the side of the Priest, because he wore a robe doesn’t make him god, and many of them hide and pretend they are well meaning law abiding citizens of the community while they pull the wool over people’s eye, manipulating, deceiving, and abusing…
He is no different from anyone in the community, and Yes more young women should speak out because am certain she was not the first… As a child growing up in Dominica I have seen this sort of thing happen to too many of my school friends, and when the tried speaking out they weren’t believed, they were called liars, and told this person would never do that….. What saddens me even more is that it’s mainly the females who seem to be victimising this young lady, we are our own worse enemies. Before they judge her the need to put themselves in her position, also think! what if it was their child, sister, niece, cousin, grand child etc..?

This allegation just cannot hold enough water to warrant dismissal, I would like what form of defense did the bishop submitted, because he knows for a fact that the accuser had multiple stories of that nature and made mentioned of other persons who did similar approaches to her. I would like to know how did the bishop proved that the allegation was in fact enough to condemn the priest. The bishop choose the dayafter election nomination to take action, yet he is saying this was the most difficult thing to do in his entire life. That discussion is going to hunt him for the rest of his life.He further deprive Grandbay of alternative representation a second time around, that is as mush as I will say on that level, just read between the lines. There was an incident in the same Grandbay when a priest impregnates a woman from Bodeau and that priest was transferred to St Lucia till he retired, The bishop worked with that same priest in St Lucia and did nothing about it.
Let us be real if a person accused a priest for touching her breast and bottom, is that enough to defrock him, Let us look at various forms of greeting, with a hug breasts make contact with breast or chest hands can either go on waist or bottom so what is that tauch all about. Iwould like to ask the bishop if in his life time he has never gotten in contact with breast , I do not mean his mother’s breast. I will continue to call my belovered father Lafleur father for he is a true father for he cares. Who God bless he is forever blessed. Love you father Reggie. Even though it appears that someone is a friend of a candidate, would you say to that person do not vote for the Party you did not approve of? Allow them to make their own decision.
This case is baffling. A woman accuses a Priest of this since she was twelve. She has had other relationships with men but did not publicly accuse them. From what I heard she is a crazy woman. This is a case I would throw out of Court. In this day and age, once those women make accusations, they are automatically believed. Let it be. God will deal with her in his good time. Many Catholics are saddened at this. Pray for Fr. Lafleur.

Was the Bishop annoyed because of the reaction of the Parishioners of Grandbay? Was he angry because the local priest did not get involved in his own defence? I agree that even if they could prove that the priest did this 19 years ago he should be disciplined but not defrocked. What about what he has contributed and achieved these last nineteen years? How has he lived his life these last nineteen years? This is the local priest that offers the most profound teachings in Dominica. He provides the most spiritual food/nourishment and peace of mind to Catholics. He is never involve in ‘beth and gossip’. His messages never divides, but rather unites the flock. It would be interesting to see the report and recommendation from Dominica that was sent to the Vatican. Make this public. So we can see and know who wanted him defrocked. Its amazing that the most gifted and most accomplished local priest has been dealt this blow. But it was also very amazing how Dominica’s Arch Bishop Fr Kelvin Felix was disrespected, and vilified and basically brought down in St.Lucia. So what really is all this about?

      • November 23, 2014

As Shakespeare wrote “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark”, or more specifically in this case, the state of Dominica. For sure the report and recommendation from Dominica that was sent to the Vatican should be made public. Speculation and statements of praise and disparagement of LaFleur offer no enlightenment. But it is most callous for commenters and the Bishop to blame the victim. Indeed, if scripture is going to be invoked (“the text of St. Paul in 1st Corinthians when he says when one part of the body is hurt, the whole body is hurt.”), the act of an abuser is the first blow to the body. The whole body is now suffering because of these abusive acts … no matter how long ago. … no matter how many or few.

This very brave victim is to be commended for her courage in speaking up and getting this child predator exposed and defrocked. This is not an easy thing to do but at least the Vatican officials believed her and now Bishop Gabriel Malzaire needs to make sure that Reginald LaFleur is kept in an independent secure treatment center. Child predators can never be allowed near children.
It’s extremely rare that a child predator has only one victim. Some have many. So let’s hope that any others who may have knowledge or may have been harmed by LaFleur, will find the courage to come forward, get help, and contact law enforcement.
Sex abuse thrives in secrecy and secret systems that allow it to continue to this day
Silence only hurts, and by speaking up there is a chance for healing, exposing the truth, and therefore protecting others.

I was told I would go to hell if I told. He was a man of God so I thought his sexual abuse of me was a punishment by God because I was an evil little girl. Even at the age of 48 I feared God’s wrath should I talk about my abuse. Fr Regie, may have his weaknesses for the opposite sex, a totally normal emotion. I doubt very much he is a pedophile. He may have struggled with his commitment to the Priesthood which I know he loves and at the same time wish the church at least allowed for priest to be the husband of one wife which is totally biblical. Well its not too late to marry and settle down and you need not do it in any other church. You are a catholic, not for any Bishop or pope. I will not comment on the young lady that wrote the letter, because I know her better than the Bishop and the Magistarium.

I trust those young boys touched by the many priest in the church are brave enough to come forward and write to the Bishop. So many Gays in top offices of the church in Dominica linked to St Lucia and no one yet to be defrosted. hmmmmmm, yess saaa ma gway saaa. • The Facts
        November 24, 2014

As also heard on Catholic TV and Radio – News, Pope Francis stated, If they “seek the Lord” or “are seeking the Lord”; not love the Lord.
We love God if we obey His Commandments, practice the faith and live a moral lifestyle according to what is contained in Holy Scripture and as the Church believes and teaches.
The Pope was very careful to choose his words. For the Media, as they have done are quick to distort his words and blow them out of proportion. They are very good at that.

This is really sad. Nowhere says he admitted the crime and I know of stories of saints who were accused of sexual misconduct and were dismissed. They had not committed any wrong doing and were waiting for when God was ready to reveal their innocence. So I am not going to make any judgement on this case or Fr. Reggie. If he did something wrong then they are doing the right thing. If he did not do wrong, then someone will pay. Either way it is very sad. I pray that the holy spirit will come upon all of us and improve our souls regardless of who we are and what position we hold.

That’s what I know about Dominicans they think things thru before making foolish moves or statements I went thru my own church our Pastor was a very loved man he had a family and it just turned up side down or better said all hell broke loose investigations upon investigations went thru the process at the end after years of investigation the Pastor was found innocent . I am a woman and we all know that it only takes one word “NO” and the wheels of injustice begin to take whole and by the end the damage was done for the Pastor and his family even if he won the case.
But that’s why we all know that God doesn’t give us more than we can bear and only he knows what happened and he will deal with both of them. But I don’t believe we should be rejoicing as we call ourselves women

    • The Facts
      November 24, 2014

Down through the ages, some saints were accused of much, what they never did; some through envy. Some were executed; beheaded.
Bishops and priests were also wrongly accused. If you listen to Catholic TV and Radio specifically transmitting from the US, from time to time you will hear about it when they talk about saints. There are times we tend to say, it is an unfair world.

There are more heterosexual priests than homosexual priests. Yet it is the smaller number of homosexual priests who are creating the problems for he church and costing the church millions o dollars.

This is because homosexuals are more apt to molest children. In 1992 The Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy reported that “Homosexual men are three times more likely to engage in paedophilia.”

I am disappointed in your use of selective perception. The evidence and truth is there for us to find out. Pedophilia/child abuse of children have little to do with sexual orientation. As a Christian you should be well aware that the Bible says about the heart. The heart of man is exceedingly wicked – gays and heterosexual alike – so it not just about sexual orientation. Persons of various sexual orientation all engage in evil because ALL have sinned.
And furthermore, you cite a 1992 finding? You mean there are no current findings to confirm/support this 22-year old conclusion? I think that’s a problme right there. Here is a study which came out in 1993 with relevant links of subsequent studies (on google scholar) that you can look to (of course, there are more but it’s not my job to do the work for you). The findings indicate that “The children in the group studied were unlikely to have been molested by identifiably gay or lesbian people.” Meaning anyone is capable of such behavior. So instead of focusing on sexual orientation, let’s look at man instead, I think that’s what God intended. Oh and here is the reference of this one article: “Jenny, Carole, Thomas A. Roesler, and Kimberly L. Poyer.”Are children at risk for sexual abuse by homosexuals?.” Pediatrics 94.1 (1994): 41-44.”

We really must be cognizant of how our personal biases can stand in our way as leaders and teachers.

If I were you Sir I would never comment on such keep it to yourself in life things happened.

      • The Facts
        November 24, 2014

As much as you made these comments, those types of priests you mentioned were already that way. Those priests did not become so overnight. They had that tendency long before they approached the Church to join the priesthood.
Unfortunately, Church authorities were not aware of that. Their private life was not investigated or that they hid their abnormal lifestyle from them. They joined the priesthood under false pretext.
When they became parish priests, they could not resist their evil urges. These have embarrassed the Church in a worst manner and cost it much. Those who are knowledgeable, broadminded and enlightened will be fully aware of that.
This is why you or anyone else should not generalize as if all priests practice this evil. There are some very good and holy priests. While I write this the US Catholic Radio is on. A priest is now speaking.
The Church authorities are more careful in recruiting priests for the priesthood. They are doing their utmost to ensure that no new priests possess those evil tendencies and traits.
A few years ago I read that Hitler said he will destroy the Catholic Church. He sent some very young men at the age of seventeen years to become priests. Some of these were homosexuals and pedophiles. Some of them eventually became bishops and other Church hierarchy. Some of them were the ones who were the unfaithful priests.
I read a small book which is entitled Alta Vista. If you can get that book to read, it will give you some relevant information.
As the late US Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, said on one of his radio programs which is re-broadcasted on Eternal Word Television Network – EWTN, TV and Radio, “Before God chastises the world, He will first cleanse His Church.” Well, this is what has been occurring. I consider similarly for those who renounce their Catholic Faith. It is a form of cleansing to get the redundant ones out of the Church with their own free will.
However, keep in mind, some priests could be wrongly accused by those women. They hear that some of them got exorbitant sums of money, thanks to their lawyers, others want their share. This is what has been occurring throughout the world.
I do believe in Fr. Lafleur’s case this is what occurred. If I am wrong, I ask God and God alone forgiveness. He knows our feeling and that some of us are in a doubt about this case and that the woman told the truth. Money can be the root of all evil and money corrupts.

      • November 24, 2014

Lil: You failed to reply to my main argument when I said –

There are more heterosexual priests than homosexual priests yet it is the lower number of homosexual priests who have committed the most sexual crimes against children in their case little boys or young under aged men. It is the homosexual priests who have cost the church multiplied millions (I have heard billions) of dollars.

This is proof enough that homosexuals are more likely to molest children because this is a world wide example of it. The situation with priests is not limited to one country, or one province or state in a country, but is world wide in scope. It is something that cannot be refuted.

As I have already stated the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy in 1092 stated “Homosexual men are three times more likely to engage in paedophilia.” For a statement like this to find its way into a professional magazine of this type it would have to be based – not on one or two small local findings – but on scientifically conducted research involving a reasonable number of people covering a significantly wide area. Has human nature changed since 1992? Or have sociological conditions changed enough since then to negate the 1992 findings? If either of these things are the case would you please provide this information for me?

But there is more . Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons, a US psychiatrist, said “Every priest whom I have treated who was involved with children had previously been involved in adult homosexual relationships.”

In 1948 Alfred Kinsey found that 37% of gay men admitted to having sex with children.

When a heterosexual is beginning to write in defence of gay “rights” for DNO they so often begin their comments by saying something like “I am not gay but…” Why is this? It is because they know homosexuality is wrong even when they are defending gay “rights”.

How many of the people who say there is no connection between homosexuality and paedophilia would want a homosexual babysitting their son?

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Rev Hill, in short, here is my response:
        1. Your opening argument is an opinion that may very well be correct but you offer no data/evidence to support it so it is opinion. Or it could very well be that the homosexual cases are the ones we hear about more often in the media so it appears that it is more likely than the same behavior commited by heterosexuals.

        2. In trying to put together my response to you I went to the past publications of the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy of 1992 but could not locate any alleged study or anything similar to this study you are talking about. I am hoping that you and I are referring to the same journal – The “Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy” – which is a peer reviewed journal that scholars publish in. In my first response to your post, I demonstrated that present day research (the present day body of research, not an isolated study) shows that your argument is flawed. Again I challenge you to use google scholar NOT google. I will add too that people even scholars are a product of their times, so it may well be that the 1992 study was one that was discredited, and the present day body of research refutes it, but I can’t make a determination because I couldn’t locate your article.

        3. I am not sure which aspect of Alfred Kinsey’s reports you are referring to but you can’t just selectively use information as you do, this is an example of trying to make data support your argument. So you say, “37% of gay men admitted to having sex with children” but what about heterosexual men? How many of these heterosexual men did the same? Or did you mean 37% out of 100%? So does that mean that 63% or homosexual men did not do such acts? What were you really trying to say? Furthermore, Kinsey’s work, although receiving much publicity, and a beginner in the discussion about morality and sexual behavior etc. has its methodological flaws. Please look it up, I do not have the space and time to go into it.

        4. So, I will tell you again, that there is no evidence of homosexual men being more ‘likely’ to abuse children than heterosexuals, and furthermore as Christians that should not be our argument. We should be equally be against abuse regardless of the sexual orientation. Does being more likely make one set a worse sinner than the other set who engage in the same behavior?

        5. One more thing, I’ve met many persons who do not have a problem with someone who is gay/lesbian babysitting their children, so my reality is different than yours.

This is my final comment on this issue.

      • December 1, 2014

        Lil, you have said:

“This is my final comment on this issue.”

How convenient! You are allowing yourself to have the last word by making it impossible for me to respond to your comment. Also your last comment to me did not contain the usual REPLY opportunity at the end.

But I will respond through this channel in the interest of academic honesty.

The Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy presently publishes five times a year. I do not know how often they published in 1992. Unless you are use to doing this kind of research you may find it difficult to find a particular article or if you do find the article you may have a problem finding the statement or information you are looking for. The statement I gave may not be an exact quotation from the journal but the essence of what I said is there.

I think the following will take you to the article you could not find. Please look for the information that homosexuals are three times as likely to assault children than heterosexuals, but do not necessarily expect an exact quotation as I gave it in my comments.

        K. Freund and R. J. Watson, The Proportions of Heterosexual and Homosexual Pedophiles among Sex Offenders against Children. An Exploratory Study. JOURNAL OF SEX AND MARITAL THERAPY. 18, no. 191/992)pp. 34-43.

Re: Alfred Kinsey saying that 37% of gay men admitted to having sex with children. We are not saying that no heterosexual men have had sex with children. What we are saying is that the percentage of gay men who have been sexually involved with children is disproportionate.
I do not have stats for the percentage of heterosexual men who have molested children but if anybody has evidence it is even near this figure please share it with me.

Lil, you have commented on quotations I have given. But far from proving me wrong all you have done is comment without proving anything. Anybody could pluck a statement out of my comments and mull it over and this is all you have done. The references I have given still stand on their own merit as a warning against homosexuality which is a behavior or lifestyle God has forbidden in the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament according to Romans 1:26,27, 1 Corinthians 6:9,10, 1 Timothy 1:9,10, Jude vs. 7. Homosexuality is a proven factor in the spread of AIDs and a cause of other physical diseases and injuries. It contributes to mental disorders. Homosexuals have a higher than average suicide rate and are known to have a shorter life span.

Much of the evidence for these things can be found in the book HOMOSEXUALITY AND THE POLITICS OF TRUTH by Jeffrey Satinover, M.D., who has practiced psychiatry for over 20 and has lectured at Harvard.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

This man was my parish priest for many years and had open relationships with women his age,. Many villagers knew that and buried their heads in the sand. The sad thing is I dont believe he is a pedophile and preyed on young girls when he had older women he was dating. Personally, I never liked him because he was preaching something he did not practice but I think he is getting a raw deal after all these years and being labelled a pedophile ( since she was 12 yrs at the time ). When it was blatant and open everyone kept their mouths shut.

I want the church to investigate how many children these priest fathered in all these villages since the 50s…….

You have not given this a good thought. Who was the pursuer? Women must comprehend that they are priests and yes, men who could easily be tempted. They must not get close to priests. Be friendly to them but do not allow themselves to be alone with them especially if they detect something more than priestly duties. Blame the women too. They will not escape God’s just judgment and recompense for placing themselves in that situation.

I am confused, the church spent thousands of dollars and time to educate the priest only to be dismissed on the strength of allegations. He has given approximately thirty years of service, I wonder, any pension, any compensation, any social security benefits. Right in our faces, their are priests who are allegedly doing worst, both politically and intimately. On behalf of the patriots, we wish you luck in your future endeavors. I understood, the priest was encouraged to run for the UWP in the Mahaut Constituency, had he taken the advice, the present embarrassment would not have been so hurtful.

In the interest of public safety many people will be glad this case is finally settled and hopefully laid to rest after so long.

On the other hand many of the faithful will wonder if there ever was a real threat to the public when they look closely at the actual nature of the allegation. A 12 year old girl is accusing a priest of making “sweet eyes” at her. What are “sweet eyes”? How objective is that? Obviously, the touching should not have happened. But this may be open to interpretation. It appears that unless there is information we are not privy to this was a one time offence in the life of the priest during 30 years of ministry.

If the event happened as the woman says it did (the touching not the sweet eyes whatever that is) It should have been investigated by the police at the time and a charge should have been laid if the police thought the accusation would stand up in court. However, it seems the woman did not report it at the time. We wonder how accurate is her recollection after 19 years of something that happened when she was 12 years old.

Some are wondering about the case being tried by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome. It seems the woman did not go to Rome to testify and be cross examined. Obviously, the authorities in Rome would have a problem calling witnesses or examining evidence in Dominica for something that is said to have happened 19 years ago. It seems all they had to go by was a written report from Bishop Malzaire based on letters he received from the woman, and maybe copies of the letters. At best (I am surmising) there may have been a telephone conference, or her recorded testimony. Few people in the secular justice system would think this is the proper way to hold court.

The case against Fr. Lafleur would be further weakened if it can be shown that this is the only allegation that was brought against him in 30 years of ministry! Men who commit such offences against children are almost always repeat offenders. The condition often worsens with successive attacks being more serious than the previous one. They are difficult to treat and seldom truly cured.

Let us pray for Fr. Lafleur, Bishop Malzaire, and the parish members the priest served. All of these in their own way are hurting. Let us pray for the woman who is involved. And we must pray for ourselves! None of us are beyond temptation. We all need the grace of God every day.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.
