Methodist celebrations climax on Sept. 12

The Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas (MCCA) has been celebrating 250 years of witness in the Caribbean and the Americas. Of the 250 years, the Methodist Church in Dominica is in its 223rd year.

As part of the celebrations here in Dominica, a number of events have taken place to commemorate this milestone.  The theme for the celebration is “With Faith, Hope and Joy we hold aloft the Light as we celebrate 250 years”.

The celebrations began on January 5 with the ringing of church bells at the various Methodist Churches at midday to commemorate the landing of the first missionaries at Portsmouth. This was followed by a number of other events.

The celebrations will culminate with a Recognition and Thanksgiving Service. We will give God thanks for calling Dominican men and women from our midst to serve in the lay and ordained ministries in the Methodist Church. We will also give God thanks for all we have accomplished thus far.

The service will be held on September 12, 2010 at the Bethesda Chapel at 4:00pm.

We wish to invite all Methodist and friends to attend.
