VIDEO: Pentecostals reenact Last Supper

last supperOn Friday night, the Pentecostal Church of Portsmouth held an Easter Demonstrative Play of the Last Supper as part of efforts to demonstrate the meaning of the Easter Season.

The play depicted what went on during the supper, leading to the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot.

Everyone present got the message of the Christian faith that Jesus Christ is not dead and that he is in fact risen from the grave.

The congregation took part in the “Lord’s Supper” as a reminder of what Jesus commanded, “Do this in memory of me.”

Video below is a highlighted summary of the event.

    Wilderness Voice:

Those who observe the seventh day are very vocal about the Sabbath teaching even when it is not called for.

I appreciate your well written comments and would like to highlight the following facts – some you have already mentioned – and others are my own thoughts.

The Sabbath commandment is the only one of the ten which is not carried over into the New Testament.

The times it is recorded that Jesus or the apostles went into the temple or a synagogue on a Sabbath day were either occasions before he cross OR they went in to be with the Jews to preach the gospel to them. To refer to these occasions as proof that the disciples worshipped on the Sabbath is being intellectually dishonest.

The first day of the week was the day of resurrection. (Matthew 28:1-6)

The first day of the week was the day Jesus appeared to His disciples after He arose when they were gathered together. (John 20:1,19)

The first day of the week was the day the disciples came together to observe the breaking of bread or the holy communion, and hear the preaching of the Word of God. (Acts 20:7)

The first day of the week was the day the Apostle Paul told the early church to receive the collection showing that it was obviously the day they would be gathering for worship.

The idea is promoted by Sabbath keepers that it was the church that changed the day from Saturday to Sunday. This is absolutely untrue. In the early church a controversy arose fuelled by Jewish Christians over which is the right day. The church held a conference to study the issue. It confirmed that the first day of the week was the proper day of worship and had been since the beginning of the church age.

No one person did more to promote Saturday worship than Ellen G. White. She is held to be a prophet by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Not long ago a number of Seventh day Adventist pastors were forced to resign because they refused to believe that Mrs. White was a prophet. A close investigation of Mrs. Whites teachings shows that she held beliefs about the marriage relationship that are unscriptural and are not followed by modern Adventists. Some of her other doctrines are not accepted by mainstream Evangelical Christians. These doctrines are important enough to prevent us from having fellowship with them although we wish this was not the case.

In closing allow me to say this.

The Old Testament law was given to one particular nation, the nation of Israel.

The Old Testament law ended at the cross. (John 19:30 ) (Acts 10:9-16) (Romans 10:4) (Galatians 3:13) (Galatians 3:23-25) (Colossians 2:10-17) (Hebrews 10:1, 11-14)

Wilderness Voice, as you have pointed out the Sabbath keepers often say more about the Sabbath than they do about Jesus Christ. As an evangelist this troubles me. More than once I have watched what I thought was an excellent educational presentation on T.V. given by the SDA Church. Then near closing time the speaker wrapped it up by presenting arguments for the Sabbath instead of sharing the plan of salvation through faith in Christ, and throwing out a lifeline to the lost.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Boy! Year in year out, generation in generation out. And the Vatican and pastors and bishops just collecting week in week out. The Jesus story is a 2,000 year old fable taken from our African history. The Story of Horus is the original story which the story of Jesus was copied and modified from. It is better to know than to believe.

      Not so.

They fool nobody. What they dramatized was a true story. The church continues to tell forth from week to week the sweetest story ever told, the old, old story, of Jesus and His love! I hope you will visit them.

Jesus foretold His own death and resurrection. He also said
He was the one and only way to heaven. On the morning of the third day when He stepped out of that tomb He validated all His claims! I have no problem believing in such a man!

When the four gospels were written well within the first century many of the people who had known Jesus while He was on earth, many who had witnessed His miracles, and watched the entire real life drama of His passion as it happened, and were familiar with the resurrection events, were still living. If what Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John had written was not true – if the stories has been made up fiction – many people would have come forward and exposed them to be lies. Not one did! We Not one person spoke or wrote denying the gospel records in the first century.

The Apostle Paul who was a Jewish rabbi and did not believe in Jesus until Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus in Acts. 9. Later Paul wrote 1 Corinthians. In
chapter 15 he wrote about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and said that the original apostles and he himself had seen Jesus after He rose. But more important of all he wrote that Jesus had appeared to five hundred men at one time after His resurrection and he said that most of these were still living even as he (Paul) was writing!

I invite you to visit our website at http://www.livinghopeministries.ca and click onto SERMONS in the right margin. Then click onto my sermon MANY INFALLIBLE PROOFS. I will share with proofs of the resurrection from the first century. You will hear the names of several lawyers of more recent times who said the evidence for the resurrection of Christ would stand up today in a modern court of law. NOTE: Several of these men were unbelievers until they actually did the research.

I pray you will have an encounter with he Living Christ! He loves you enough to bear your sins all the way to Calvary. May you meet Him and make Him your Savior. Take a Bible and read Romans 5:6-9, St. John 1:11-12, Revelation 3:20.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

@blessing, here are some facts about the Sabbath based on the bible:
    1. As you rightly stated, God rested on the Sabbath. If the Saturday Sabbath was for man to keep or observe, why did He not introduce Adam, the first person created, to the Sabbath? Can you show one passage where Adam kept or observed the Sabbath? Why would God warn them about what fruit to eat but nothing about the Sabbath?
    2. From Adam to Joseph, we have no reference to anyone keeping the Sabbath or instructed to do so?
3.There is no biblical record whatsoever of anybody keeping the Sabbath prior to Exodus 16, not even Abraham.
4.The Sabbath was a command given specifically to the children of Israel who were delivered from Egypt. Please read Deuteronomy 5:1-15, to see who it was given to. Here is verse 3 The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. So this covenant, which includes the Sabbath, was not for Abraham, Isaac , Jacob or Joseph. It was only for those who were ALL ALIVE at that time. Were you alive then? Furthermore, verse 15 tells us why God put them under the Sabbath and it was not because God wanted them to remember the seventh day of creation but rather, because they were strangers in Egypt and God delivered them with an out stretched arm.
    5. Jesus Christ through His redemptive work regained the Sabbath that Adam lost, since the Sabbath was a sign that pointed to something much greater than Saturday worship.
    6. Jesus Christ has now become the Sabbath rest for Christians under the New Covenant. No wonder he was killed on Friday evening, spent the Sabbath in the grave and God brought him to life on Sunday Morning.
    7. No where in the New Covenant was the Church commanded to keep the Sabbath. In fact after the resurrection of Christ, Sunday became their day of worship better known as “The Lord’s day.”

It is very unfortunate that many got carried away by the teaching of Helen E White, and never took time to study the bible for themselves and as a result, are confused. But God’s word is our guide and let us study it line by line precept by precept.

Do not forget that the Law of the Old Testament was implemented long, long, long after first generations of Adam.

Adam’s body had long gone to the dust it was formed when God His laws to the people–that generation of people came from Abraham–who was the grandson of Noah.

Remember also that God send a flood that destroyed everything in existence–except Noah, his wife, his 3 sons and their wives; along with one pair of every living animal that existed at the time.

Also the Law of the Old testament came through Moses, even Abraham himself, was gone from his body long before Moses was born. That would mean, Abraham and the generations right into Jacob–who was Abraham’s grandson, who was the father of the nation of Israel, lived with the Laws of the Old Testament.

Where in the bible is playing the lottery a sin or gambling? I know religion calls it gamble but I have not seen it in God’s word. To me, it is a sin for men to put money down against one another’s money when playing cards, dominoes, etc. and give the money to the winner. It is bad because it could lead to fighting, anger, killing, theft and many more hurtful and ungodly things. The lottery is different in that one just has to buy a ticket and goes about their business hoping to be the successful person. If that’s sinful then dropping a resume for a job would be sinful too since the procedure is basically the same. I am just curious and would like somebody to show me scriptures that condemn the lottery and not religious opinion.

eh beh you simple Wilderness Voice. Lottery is no different from a game of Dominoes, and you know that. People put their money up against others in the hope they win. You can spin it dice it, at the end of the day is the same. However I see no sin in it.

What is the True Meaning of Easter?

The Easter we celebrate today is a curious blend of the religious and the secular; of paganism, Judaism and Christianity.

Some say the word Easter is derived from Eostre (also known as Ostara), an ancient Anglo-Saxon Goddess. She symbolized the rebirth of the day at dawn and the rebirth of life in the spring. The arrival of spring was celebrated all over the world long before the religious meaning became associated with Easter. As Christianity grew and spread throughout the world, it was common practice to adopt and modify existing non-Christian festivals and assimilate them into the Christian theology. Because Eostre was the goddess of spring and her symbolism dealt with renewal and rebirth, the Christian belief in the resurrection of Christ fit well with these themes.

I am not aware of a fellowship of Pentecostal Christians who condone gambling in any form. People are individuals and make personal choices but I think it would be safe to say that most practicing (active) Pentecostal believers do not gamble.

We care about the personal witness of our lives. Also the collective testimony of the Assembly we are part of means a lot to us. Outsiders naturally judge the church by what they see in the lives of its members. The Apostle Paul told the church in the City of Corinth that they (the congregation) were an epistle “known and read of all men” (11 Corinthians 3:2)

However, we are not perfect only forgiven. The failing of a Christian in the church is a matter between the individual, God, and the pastor. If you would look closer you would see good in that person’s life. We see what we want to see. What we want to see depends on the kind of person we are. No doubt the “host” he was holding caught your attention and you realized you knew who he was. Strange that you as an outsider would be be so concerned about one man in he group who plays the lottery. Do you know how many other members of the church are striving to please the Lord and their lives are an example?

I hope you will give heed to the gospel message embodied in what was an excellent presentation. What a wonderful way to set forth the story of God’s wonderful provision for the sins of mankind. The last supper dramatizes events about to take place in only a matter of days. Christ’s body would be broken on the cross… broken on the altar of love. His precious blood was about to be poured out in the midst of incredible betrayal and agony to purchase our salvation.

Please Patriot, focus on what the play is saying to each one of us. See Jesus paying the penalty for you. Receive the gift He offers.

“For by grace are saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9)

“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”. (Romans 3:23)

“…the blood of Jesus Christ (God’s) Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

“…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…,” (Acts 16:31)

Thank you Pentecostal Church of Portland for preaching and dramatizing he Word of Life.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Pentecostal Evangelist.

but I think it would be safe to say that most practicing (active) Pentecostal believers do not gamble.

@Rev. Donald Hill, I am a practicing Born Again believer and I appreciate your insight here. But for the sake of clarification what is your scriptural basis for implying that playing lottery is gamble? I am against gambling because it is wrong for friends, neighbors, brethren to compete for each others money which usually leads to fighting, anger, killing etc. With the lottery, a person simply buys a ticket and goes about his business and if successful will be notified. How is it gambling? If that’s gambling then placing an application for a job is gambling as well since the procedure is basically the same. That’s where I draw a line between religion and Godliness since it is because of the teachings of religion persons can condemn a brother for playing the loto. If the church cannot use scriptures to justify their teaching then they should simply use it as their personal opinion instead of making it sound like thus sayeth God.

It is very interesting that the whole world would observe Easter and the death and resurrection of our lord Jesus Christ and how he was raised on the first day of the week, which is on Sunday. When ask about the Sabbath, the ending of creation how he rested on the Sabbath day from all his labor which is Saturday, he bless Hallowed and sanctified it their answer is the Sabbath is abolish. If we can observe the true meaning of Easter, we can do the same with the Sabbath. Nothing change,God’s word is still the same.

    • Wilderness Voice
      April 21, 2014

@blessing, Christians do not believe Sabbath is abolished. WE simply believe that Christ is our Sabbath and not a day. God did not bless Saturday any more than he blessed all the days of the week. Since no one has ever pleased our Lord Jesus like Jesus did, as we follow his example, it is obvious that though at times he went to the Sinagogue on Saturdays as a Jew, it is also very clear that he di several things on a Saturday that are contrary to the teachings of the Sabbatarian leaders and accused him of breaking the Sabbath. We celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord because if their was salvation by keeping the Saturday holy, there would be no need for Jesus to die. Interestingly enough that those who were very vocal about the Sabbath crucified Jesus just before sunset and left him in the tomb on Saturday while they went to worship God. You talk about a mentality that put more emphasis on church on Saturday than God’s own Son! Jesus was risen on a Sunday Morning and that’s why we worship Him (our Sabbath) on Sunday. Keep serving your Sabbath but we will serve and rejoice in the person of Jesus.

      AMEN!

There is no better time to preach or show to the world the good news of the Savior than Christmas and Easter. Even though the Lord has not commanded us to celebrate His birth and His death and resurrection with holidays and special services we would be fools not to take advantage of the dates.

Many churches in Dominica and throughout the Caribbean held special Easter services because they realize the opportunity this give them to reach a larger than usual audience, and to preach the gospel of how that Christ died for our sins, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3,4) We preach this every Sunday of the year. But at Easter hearts are open and people are more receptive. People come to church at Easter who have not attended all year. These are those who have not had a personal encounter with Christ and have not been born again. Some may be religious in their own way but they obviously do not know the Lord. What an opportunity Bible believing gospel preaching churches have to share the good news of salvation with them at Easter! Every year new souls are added to the Kingdom of God because wide awake evangelical churches seize the occasion to make Him known.

      Keep up the good work!

      Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.
