Repeat drug offenders given last chance

A Roseau Magistrate has warned two repeat drug offenders that should they come before her again they will be sent “straight to jail”. The men, who were once again appearing before her on drugs charges, were fined and warned.

Chad Richards was arrested for possession of cannabis on November 5, 2012 by members of the Task Force in Fields Lane in Roseau. He pleaded guilty and told magistrate Candia Carette George “I won’t do it again.”

However, the magistrate countered Richards’ contention that the amount of the drugs was “small” by admonishing him that “it is illegal in Dominica and you need to stop it. You were before me last year for drugs and you got a small fine this time it will go up…you are not learning,” she told him.

He was fined EC$700.00 to be paid by December 31, 2012 and in default, spend two months behind bars.

Also given a “final chance” was Bernard Greg Sango of Fond Cole who, on November 7, 2012, went to the Woodbridge Bay Port to do business but when he was searched by the security at the gate, a small quantity of drugs (3 grams), was found on his person.

Sango told police that “English Boy that lends me the bag,” a position which he maintained in court and which did not amuse the magistrate. “If you come back before me I’m sending you straight to jail….just last year you were before me and you seem not to be heeding the warnings being given to you,” she stated.

He was fined EC$800.00 to be paid by December 31, 2012 .

Sango faces 2 months in jail if the money is not paid by the deadline.

one thing with us here in Dominica, we quick to crucify people but one thing i have learnt when u live in glass house don’t throw stones. plenty of us discriminating those we see on the road doing it and our brothers, uncles, sisters, and children doing the same in the back yard. we must stop that discrimination people and learn to mind our own business.

They should have charged them $5000 or one year in jail. Then, the message would have been heard loud and clear. Make their life a little difficult because they stupid. You want to smoke or carry drug on your person, no problem…you will pay for it. Then use the money to help children in poor communities and the elderly. Take these same guy while they in jail and send them to clean the Roseau gutters. Embarrassment is a hell of a tool. Why so drastic you ask… Because these are the same guys who sell that stuff to the children in Gardens. They are the same ones who take what does not belong to them, they are the same ones who are giving Dominica a bad name.

If you care about people you will want what is best for them. If you care about your country you will want what is best for it.
People are obligated to obey the Law or pay the price. Who are you, a radical? Drugs contribute to ill health and death. It also kills the brains. When will they learn this for their own good if they expect to live a healthy and long life?

Why so many young men in Dominica geting themselves involved in drug, is there no work on the island to keep them busy, or is it an island problem

It is their personal problem. Godlessness and laziness is the cause of this. They want to live a life of leisure with no responsibilities as they are going down slippery slopes. They will fall flat on their faces. Then they will blame the government for their dilemma instead of themselves. What a waste of life?

I heard about it through the Canadian Media. There are some foolish politicians who are responsible for that. In time the U.S. will pay for it. They are already paying for it in various ways. The hurricane almost destroyed all of the U.S. A snow storm added to their dilemma. The worst is yet to come.
The Prime Minister of Canada did not approve of it. There are some immoralities that he does not approve of. He is a genuine Christian. I support him all the way.

If I were a “spliff” smoker (Thank God I am not), no policeman would search me and find not even a speck of Marijuana on me. ????? I would only smoke away from the public – private. Wash my mouth, get my mint and chewing gum. The young men do not seem to have wisdom. You tell them so but yet they insist in carrying an illegal stuff on their person.

Really young men, you need to stop and think. Already the marijuana is not good for your health and yet this is a clear example of to “kill, steal and destroy” and you don not display wisdom by always haveing the “spliff” on you everywhere you go in public. To see some of the young men smoke that thing in public. No one knows who is a policeman. To pay $800.00 for 1 spliff and even to go jail because most of you do not have that kind of money. This is so sad. Young men ask for Godly wisdom and understanding and try to do the right thing. Stop smoking in the public and carrying that thin on your person. After then, perhaps you can look at eliminating the vehicle for the Enemy’s who has come to steal, kill and destroy.

I supposed the cigarette or the cigar is better? You know, since its “legal” and all… The only reason cannabis is still “illegal” is because, the cigarette companies pulling the strings in the backgrounds.

Cannabis legalized, cigarette companies lose major profits.

Cannabis is a plant, it grows. All that’s done to it, is let it dry before usage. This is the same process used to make prunes from plums or raisins from grapes.

Cigarettes, are the real drug. Tobacco grown sub-naturally, added with a couple narcs, MSG, nicotine… see where this is going? It has “chemicals” added in. That’s a killer drug. People call them “cancer sticks” for a reason.

NOTE: Please refrain from using electric cigarettes as an argument. We are not robots, and idiots alone smoke that crap.

It should be a year in prison; not a few months. They need to learn a lesson once and for all.
