Two families have benefited from food hampers, courtesy of the Roseau Valley Enhancement Committee.
Addie Laflouf from the Village of Laudat, who was involved in an accident a year ago received the donation on behalf of his family and Ramona Valerie of Cochrane represented her mother.
They received their hampers at a brief presentation ceremony held at the office of Attorney-at-Law, Ronald Charles.
“Last year, as we all may be aware, he (Addie) was involved in an accident, but he was also involved in assisting the entire committee for ensuring that people had a good time. Unfortunately, he had an accident and in the circumstances we see it fit by giving him a hamper,” Charles told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview.
Charles, who is a member of the Roseau Enhancement Committee, said his committee will place focus on various groups within the community, “ so for example the physically challenged person or the young person that might need help for education, or the young person that might need help in sports or the elderly, so that we can make a contribution towards that.”
According to him, the committee also sees the importance of unity.
“There are many issues and there are many projects that the entire communities on a whole can collaborate on and make things happen,” he said. “We know that economically it is challenging for a lot of communities, a lot of persons and a lot of individuals and we see it fit by trying to bring everybody together to get our common goal and common aspiration.”
Charles continued, “More importantly our aim is to look at the different cultural aspects of our communities because one would realize that in terms of culture the young people have seen the need to promote culture, to make culture an important part of our development…”
He said the committee will be using Dominica’s Carnival Celebrations as one of the mediums to bring out more of that unity.
“Next year, 2016, is no exception. That is why we will be organizing the second annual Unity Jouvert Glow Band,” he noted. “2015 was excellent; a lot of people appreciate it…”
Patrons are being encouraged to support the event which organizers say will cost $50.
Music, he said, will be provided by the Look-Us Band alongside DJ Slim and other DJ’s from the Roseau Valley.
He thanked those who came on board to sponsor the committee.
The Roseau Valley Enhancement Committee is a non-profit organization which was formed over a year ago and its main aim is to look into the well-being of the entire Roseau Valley and by extension, Dominica.
I often wonder why every donation to individuals have to be publicized! just wondering.
