Saint Lucia manufacturers showcase products in Dominica

Manufacturers from Saint Lucia were meeting with Dominican stake holders  today to explore ways of collaborating and working together as the island continues to recover from the ravages of Hurricane Maria.

The Saint Lucia contingent, comprising four wooden furniture manufacturers and one mattress manufacturer, visited the island on a trip organised by the Saint Lucia Trade Export Promotion Agency (TEPA).

“We are here with five of our manufacturers and we are here to see how we could collaborate,” Client-Manager at Export Saint Lucia, Angela Alphonse explained.

She said the manufacturers would be showcasing their products, among other things.

“What we are here to do is to showcase some of our products, see where there are shortfalls in the wooden manufacturing in Dominica and where we see fit. We will see how best that we could collaborate and see how we can provide some of these items,” Alponse noted.

The event is being held at the OECS Office in Roseau and Alphonse invited all Dominicans to come in and take advantage of the opportunity.

The visit to Dominica was organized by TEPA in collaboration with the Dominica Manufacturers Association (DMA).

“Through this visit, TEPA, along with the manufacturers/exporters will discuss areas for collaboration with furniture providers in Dominica and determine whether opportunities exist to supply products which are not available or not already produced in Dominica,” the organization said in the statement.

Baron’s Agro products from st. Lucia copied Bello’s model and took over their market share. Bello fell by the wayside. I welcome the st. lucian manufacturers, come through and set up. Show us your technology, employ us, help us to be productive in the proper way. Not no vaikivai operation like what people love to do here. we need SERIOUS PRODUCERS HERE>

I do not have the details because I am kinda of youngish still. But I think someone needs to do a timeline of industries in Dominica from the first business/manufacture…..meaning a significant one. The illustration should show stuff like opened …..expanded…..closed….relocated…changed operations…change names..etc. and if possible put the number of people employed if available. Do for example we would have DCP opened….move to colgate pal in …..Colgate pal closed in ….successors opend in … JUST A THOUGT

St Lucia is ready for business they have a plan and pushing that plan which will create jobs and more economic activity, Dominica in the mean time continues down its aimless path with no plan no vision just the same nonsense that keeps us where we are, now we are giving away free houses the same foolishness that Chavez did in Venezuela.

Roses lime juice used to have lime plantations on Dominica and St Lucia till the company closed up shop due to political reasons and the independence of Dominica. Roses employed a lot of people on Dominica and during harvest time they were crushing limes 24/7 at Belfast.
