Medicinal marijuana

In a first likely to impact the North American and Canadian medicinal marijuana industry, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) has made history as the first OECS Member State to decriminalize for medical purposes and scientific research, the production of the coveted crop under a tightly controlled framework.

Speaking from SVG, Minister for Agriculture The Hon. Saboto Ceaser said the passing of the Bill in Parliament on the 11th December signified the Caribbean island was now positioned to become a globally leading medicinal cannabis hub not only in terms of high quality production….

I am glad that the necessary steps are being taken to correct the inconsistencies when it comes to Cannabis. However please, ensure that necessary plans are in effect before we make this move to ensure that our youth are not exposed to or will not engage in the overindulgence or abuse of the plant. Because there ARE negative side-effects of the plant on a developing mind.

In recent times there has been a lot of talk about harmonizing laws in the OECS. How is it that notning was mentioned among our governments about that approach even if that was alreadynbeing discussed at the Caricom level. But Prime Minister Ralph Gonzalves is alwqys a step qbove the rest.
He knows about taking advantage and being a step above the rest, especially Us. We will continue to lag behind and will have to settle gor the scraps.

“TAKING ADVANTAGE OF A SITUATION”, and trying to play “BEAT THE OTHER AT IT” is not always best. Maybe that is why organizations such as CARICOM and programmes are a failure. The countries are always trying to one-up the other, as well as each country and/or leader, has their own agenda. But that is another argument for another forum.
However, my comment still stands and what is your feedback on it? We (in the Caribbean especially) have an issue of abuse of such that give the “high” or the “calming” effect. We must be careful and ensure that we do not recklessly make the Cannabis become available to our children especially considering the negative effects it may have on them.

      We’re never the leaders
You’d think with a stalled economy we’d be more progressive as a nation

That is not an accurate statement. Again each country has its own agenda, it’s own priority areas and some things will come before the other, I don’t think after “months of discussion” as you’ve stated, a year after over 90% of our GDP being annihilated the number one priority would a review of a Cannabis Bill, let us take things easy. As I’ve stated, we are to be careful with this especially when it comes to protecting our children.

Hey is that prescribed cannabis has a specialty to it, reason for this. A man can use the same and then use the street one after and constantly refilling his prescribed bottle. How you going to ascertain whether or not is prescribed cannabis after such. People will always bit the system with that, and leave the pharmacies one right in there.

You can test for THC / CBD levels. THC being the psychoactive component found within cannabis. CBD being the medicinal component. Cannabis is bred to produce different strains and phenotypes. The medicinal strains are bred in order to have low THC levels and high CBD levels, this is the reason why nobody would refill it with the cannabis contain high levels of THC as they would getting far less medicinal benefit from it. The Medicinal grade cannabis has under 1% THC and approximately 18-23% CBD. The recreational grade cannabis is the polar opposite.

The THC does have medicinal properties primarily lowering ocular pressure within the eyes, beneficial protection for the optic nerve from glaucoma. Most prefer it in smoked form rather than liquid or edibles.

All this to right the wrongs of one man, a racist DA in the U.S Harry Anslinger (simple google search) who got the post of drug enforcement lord in 1930’s but thought enforcing the law on the list of existing class1 drugs morphine, heroine, LSD not enough to justify keeping his job. Armed with a budget, racial sentiment of the time, went on to add one frequented by Black Jazz players, Mexicans & Asians then campaigned and lobbied with totally racial terms that were ok then, added marijuana to the list; ignoring the better judgement of all the scientists who found that it was not a dangerous drug nor was it worthy of the same category as the listed hard schedule 1 drugs, but he won, took it to the U.S federal gov’t, to Hollywood where the racists financed movies ‘Reefer Maddness’ etc (google search) where he claimed Blacks, Mexicans were giving marijuana to white women who jumped out of tall buildings, later he took it to the U.N, he won….and here we are today. smh
