United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the Soufriere constituency, Dr. Sam Christian, has confirmed to Dominica News Online (DNO) that he was attacked at a public meeting in Soufriere on Saturday night.
Dr. Christian spoke in a phone interview to DNO while on his way to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital. He said the incident occurred during a UWP constituency meeting in Soufriere.
“I was waiting to speak when I heard a sudden..like an explosion in my head. Everything went blurred, a ringing..tremendous ringing in my left ear, and…I staggered and they sat me down and I was holding my head and then I felt, you know, the blood,” he told DNO. “So, they …..tried to see whether I was alert and could see how many fingers and so forth and then the village nurse came and took me to her home where she dressed the wound.”
He said he insisted on speaking and eventually did, despite attempts (by colleagues and supporters) to dissuade him “and…right now I’m on the way to the Casualty but it [the wound] may or may not need stitches.”
Dr. Christian said that according to his UWP colleague, MP for the Roseau North constituency, Danny Lugay, two other people at the meeting were also struck by stones at about the same time that he was hit.
“So we believe it was a targeted thing..but the meeting is still continuing,” he stated.
Dr. Christian has rejected the suggestion, based on a video recording made after the incident, that he was hit by falling debris from a construction site located next to the venue of the meeting. Other individuals who were at the meeting have also taken to social media to support the doctor’s story.
They maintain that the UWP candidate was only brought to the area where the video was shot after he had been struck while he was sitting several feet away from the building.
Dr. Christian said that he has reported the matter to the police.

It was during the 2014 election the PM told his supporters in Wesley that if they voted UWP, the blood of Dominica would be on them. That statement is more than just inciting violence but clearly told us that a uwp victory would cause blood she’d. But did the police asked him to to clear the air on that statement? No they didn’t because it is clear that the police commissioner and his team were put there for such a time as this. People people just be quiet, go to the polls on Election Day and vote your choice. That screaming of who’s better is hogwash. And by the way, get rid of or stop following those motorcades pre Election Day, that’s archaic, medieval and stupid. The town-halls and village meetings are good but now require police presence. Seriously.
Did not hear all this talk from the UWP supporters when they were stoning the police at Salisbury. It was not a sad day for Dominica as UWP supporters stoned the police, because they were doing the stoning. Now this story about the stoning of Sam is very suspicious, for the simple reason that these incidents are happening to Sam to frequently, no other UWP candidate as far as I know is experiencing such harassment.
If you remember, Skerrit did tell us that Blood will be on our hands if we want to put UWP in power! True to form, here it is .
I hope Dr. Sam and the entire Opposition go to Washington and the UN in NY to report this harassment, threats and physical brutality against the Opposition. The attempted murder of Sam Christian M.D., is not something that even Roosevelt Skerrit should take lightly, he should instruct his police (para military force) to investigate this attempted murder until they find the culprit; because Roosevelt or any other politician could be subjected to violence of the same magnitude.

Even if Dominica was under siege by any foreign power, and United Nation troops were sent to Dominica they could not engage in warfare, they could not shoot at anybody unless they were fired upon.

Skerrit’s incendiary rhetoric may have caused one of his loose cannons to commit this most despicable act. The country is rapidly descending into a dark, ungovernable place of no return. The Dominican police are just an extension of the government. They are just there, doing little or nothing, waiting for that order to intimidate and forcefully quash any peaceful protest by supporters of the opposition or aggrieved civil servants. This administration is mostly interested in electoral ‘deforms’ to remain in power. Look at what they are presently doing in parliament. Kick them out of government with your votes.
Dominica these days is no doubt one of the most dagerous place to be in, thanks to Roosevelt Skerrit. If you support his wrong then off course you safe. But to speak out against his evil and even to try run against him? But he is more concerned about rising and waking in the palace which he occupies whilst there is squalor all around. Patrick John was removed from office and continued with his life as a free man, though he was imprisoned. OJ Seraphin was voted out but continued to live a normal life. Euginia Charles retired from politics and continued to live a normal life here. Eddison James was voted out but he too continued to live a free normal life here, going to his garden and socializing. Well I will not talk about Rosie and Pierro because as we know Skerrit burried both of them while in office, which led to him being where he is today as PM. But unlike all of our former Prime Ministers who did not need to be in office to hide, Roosevelt Skerrit is different. He Cannot afford to resign, he cannot afford to lose an election and he cannot afford not to be in office just so he could hide himself. This is a very sad day in Dominica when small minded demonic mentally derange people are capable of harming people in simply because they are not on the same political side singing praising to some dictator. The problem is someone saw the culprit committed the crime; nevertheless the witness may never go to the police to report what they saw!
I suppose the majority of Dominicans are living in fear, and the witnessing of an attempted murder might not be enough to warrant reporting what they saw to the police.
I suggest anyone who saw, or have information that could lead to an arrest and conviction of the perpetrator of the crime should not hesitate to report the matter to the police.
I am prepared to pay US$1,000.00 dollars (EC$2,690) dollars to anyone with such information; In event the witness believe I am not serious; DNO has my E-mail address consult DNO, I am sure they will contact me once an arrest is made!

Sir, I have been following your blog for a while and have refrain from commenting. It is good to offer rewards in the pursuit of justice, but you have not been advocating the pursuit of peace.
I always wondered if you really appreciate the qualification and experience that you claim you have.
When I compare the attitude of President Obama and Dr King to that of President Trump I understand what good attitude is. Those two black men, one in politics and one in religion experience enough hatred that could be used as drivers of racial wars, but they went in the opposite direction.
We should take examples from this, and express our differences in peaceful and loving ways
Dominicans are all connected or related, so there is no need to destroy each other under the accuse that we are fighting for political rights and social justice. A political arena with a peaceful attitude of negotiation , persuation and compromise would be the way to go. This should be your personal cause.

You can give the money to crime stoppers. Maybe you can make it $5,000 US. That will certainly get attention. You know the saying money talks and money can make people talk. Maybe you can set up a fund for all hate crimes and lobby for “stone crimes” to be equaled to murder or attempted murder or terrorism.
You can also start an anti-corruption movement. You may wish to offer the same amount for evidence that may lead to arrest and convictions.

My proposal is to reward an informant!
There must be someone who witness the crime or was privy to a plot to murder; assassinate, Sam! If such witness come forward with true and credible information which can lead to an arrest and conviction of the culprit, I will pay directly to the informant as I premised.
Sending money to a third party in Dominica, the intended may never get it; I have first hand experience on that! Some people tried one time to get money from me claiming they were collecting money to to pay for surgery for someone from Dominica to a hospital here in Los Angeles.
I called the Hospital to find out if the Dominican was in the hospital, and how much he owed. I was informed, that the man a Dominican was long sent home from the hospital, and owed nothing, his bill was all paid!
The Dominican suckers did not know the hospital in Hollywood is walking distance from my house!

People do we really want this kind of problem.. Incidents like these led to civil war.. There are people that believe in paying blood with blood on both sides.. A country that has been through civil war NEVER recovers.. I hope the intelligence Unit has the right equipment or contacts to figure out who is responsible.. An example need to be made out of them, so this will never happen again.. I repeat again, Incidents like these has led to Civil War and we don’t want that.
