‘Seko’ is back!

Earl Grant
Earl Grant

Dominica News Online (DNO) has been informed that Earl ‘Seko’ Grant who is wanted for questioning in connection with the 2010 alleged fire bombing of the home of former magistrate GON Emanuel, has returned to Dominica.

Well-placed sources told DNO that Grant came in to Dominica via Melville Hall airport last night.

Reports are that he is in police custody and spent the night at the Marigot police station.

Ag. Director of Public Prosecutions, Julien Prevost, announced recently that he was asking Grant to voluntarily return to  Dominica from the United States where it is believed that he was residing, or he (Prevost) would seek to have him extradited to Dominica.

Following the fire in 2010, Grant was implicated in a confession by Denny Shillingford who claimed that he set the fire on Grant’s orders.

Shillingford confessed that he was paid in part to carry out the bombing on Emanuel’s home. He said he was coming clean because the organizers did not stick to their end of the bargain.

“I went in and I spread the gas all in the kitchen, all on the cylinder. I almost even burn myself …” Shillingford told Q95′s Matt Peltier in an interview in 2011.

Shillingford said he was paid $400 “but after I realized who it was and whose home it was and I understand what was really happening I proposed US$40,000. He said he would give it to me… up till now”.

DNO is following this story and will bring you developments as they occur.

Why all these labor party/Red Clinic recipients are defending SEKO? Even Tony Astaphans who represents Skerrit, was pessimistic about Seko being extradited to Dominica. What is there to hide? let the man face justice.

On a serious note – so many commentators here have already convicted Secko. I’m curious to know how many are eye witnesses and have first hand knowledge.

Whether he is guilty or not – having a person who can’t be considered an honest or trustworthy witness can sink this entire case.

All this is a big waste of time, money and effort. It seems that noone in this sage will get JUSTICE;NOT GON, not secko, not the one who says he was paid $400.

The case has been tired in the public court on 0 credible evidence.

In which REAL, TRUE and honest court of law would this person get JUSTICE in Dominica?

Justice will never exist in Dominica as Dominicans do nto know nor understand the meaning. It is all about my opinion, my view, my idea of right and wrong and everything else fails.

Good luck my people, in your constant aim to climb to the top of the barrel while being pushed back down

In response to your subject matter “Seko’ is back!” some top guns must be saying that the game is being played as planned. They know very well that most Dominicans are fools and can easily be fooled, so all they have to do is plan another joke, and Dominicans will buy into it. Not me though! I will not be fooled again by those same players!
When I think of the position of the man whose house was bombed in 2010 and up to this day we do not know who did it, in the interest of justice I cannot believe anything they say or do today. Dominica is too small for that. We talking about a big name former magistrate and government and the police did not go all the way to find out who did that? Too much smoke!
Folks, Denny Shillingford told the nation that he did it and he told us step by step how he did it. Furthermore, he told us who hired him to do it, how much he was paid, who drove him to the site. Furthermore, Denny told us that he “Was coming clean because the ORGANIZERS (plural) did not stick to THEIR (plural again) end of the bargain”. He went on to mention Earl Grant (Seco) by name as one of the organizers and yet no one was arrested. I am not politically blind enough to conclude that everything he said was accurate but I am also not stupid enough to ignore his confession. At that time, the man should have been arrested and charged on the basis of his confession and let the court along with witnesses and evidence determine if Denny was guilty or not. But what happened? The then police commissioner refuted the claims of Denny and said he also made conflicting statements to the police. Since then, Tony Astaphan has said enough to be questioned by the police and he also had a live radio interview with Seko. Also, that same Tony Astaphan according to DNO article in June 2011,called this saga “Another political scheme scheme organized to mislead Dominicans. He also referred to the Eddison James / Gonsales bugging issue. We also had some bold statements made by the then police commissioner where I was left to wonder if Mr. Emmanuel himself played any role in the bombing since Mr. Carrette said that GON was not cooperating with the police.
At that time we had enough information for an arrest and possible charge. For them to arrange for Earl to return just to answer certain questions almost 3 years later is just hogwash and I will not be fooled. Too many things have changed since then. Where is the then police commissioner? retired. Mr. Skerrit, where is the then DPP? He to is retired. Where is the then president? Also retired? Where is Denny Shillingford? In state prison. Who else formed part of the organizers according to Denny? It’s a mystery. So sir, how are we going to get a fair trial with so many important pieces gone? The game is well planned and whoever wants to be fooled again is just their damn business.

      May 28, 2013

well written, but who are you trying to fool. since when noted criminals are give so much importance by the court? Denny shillingford is a seasoned criminal so with a lot to lose hence he is very susceptible to both sides be it the (organizers) as you said or the originators (UWP) WHO ALSO have GREAT INTEREST in the soiling of the prime minister and the entire governments name. and you better keep the current president out of your dirty mouth or fingers he not in your crap. all you people are just a bunch of LOPS suffering idiots who never have or had Dominica’s best interest at heart. your witness or culprit is no more than a criminal whom i seem to recall parents were staunch UWP followers. memories are always there people we can trace and track everyone’s origins in this whole mess so back off.

Mamizoo is not optimistic that justice will be served not as long as the corrupt ones are in control and driving the wheels of justice. Mamizoo is optimistic though that the people of Dominica will and are already beginning to understand the conniving and Machiavellian nature of this administration , their supplicant lawyers and mercenaries. I am optimistic that the god fearing nature of the Dominican people will again come to life and say no enough is enough. I am optimistic that the truth prevails even if the truth is muzzled by those who are too desperate to hold on to power.
I am not optimistic that the back of the Carmel will be broken at this point cause every sign points in the direction of a well orchestrated effort to pave the way for yet another victory for the pervasive senior counsels and criminal gang of politicians . But it won’t be long before the walls come tumbling down. I predict that day when they the crooks will begin to slaughtered each other right on the same airwaves of deception; I predict that soon thse who areonprozac will no longer be able to withstand the guilt and will commit suicide. How long ago did Earl Grant, “Sicko”, “Seco,” in that live interview with Tony Astaphan on radio, confessed that he would be coming back soon to clear his name in the henious, unforgettable firebombing of two senior citizens?

How could anybody, lawyer, whoever, be allowed to speak publicly to a person ‘of interest,’ who fled the country and wanted by police in the firebombing crime? In Dominica, of course those things happen. A few people, with power exercising total control over the majority. How Long? Not long.

Who in authority-Law enforcement, or Govt. who feels now that Denny’s confession is credible and the facilitator of the crime mentioned shoud be taken in for questioning?

Who in Dominica really believe that those “Big Wigs” with all their criminal intentions, overt and covert, would allow such an abominable crime with serious consequences to reach court? In Dominica’s Court?

And if by some miracle it reach Court, the new Grenadian Magistrate would sit on it and give judgement? In whose favour?

Remember who were on their radio programme publicly making statements, defending, protecting their ilk?

Dominicans are a very sick bunch of people!

First we call for justice, we call for the government of Dominica to pursue Seco, and bring him back to Dominica. Prevost challenged him to either return voluntarily, or he would have sought assistance from the Federal Government of United States to extradited him back to Dominica.

The alleged criminal seems to have volunteered his returned: According to DNO, he the spent the night supposedly in custody at the Marigot Police Prescient (station). This is an indication that there was an warrant out for his arrest; the wheels of justice seems to be in motion, considering that Seco is under arrest.

In view of this; one would believe that the average Dominican would be satisfied to watch for the events to follow. Instead we read all this crap written by people who seems to have no commonsense.

I do not see where God comes into this, someone even prays to the virgin Mary on behalf of Gong Emanuel.

In the first place the virgin Mary does not hear and answer peoples prayer, Jesus Christ never instructed anyone to pry to his mother.that is something the Roman Catholic Church invented. the Bible, however, speaks of vein payers, and anyone who prays to the Virgin Mary,is indeed praying in vein, their prayers will never get answered.

Only God Jehovah, through his son Jesus Christ hears and answers prayers: another comic is under the impression that the whole issue is comical, there suggest it nothing more than theatrical ( only a show).

So, my question is simply this: were all the Dominicans who were screaming injustice, and bring Seco back for questioning all on the same stage simply acting a hypocritical part pretending they wanted justice for Emanuel, and now that it seems that Prevost went all out to get the alleged criminal back his sound endeavors are now call called a theatrical show?

    Something is wrong with Dominicans!

        Bless him father what?

In the first place, which father are you talking about, because if you are getting scriptural about it let me tell you God classify most of you as “of your father” Satan.

My father is Jehovah God, and I serve him through his Son Jesus Christ, so your garbage does not fade me!

One who knows the word of God, is not shaken by stupid, nor fear ridiculous religious rhetoric, nor the stupid philosophy of those who are less informed in the word of God than I am!

When I wish to be blessed, I go to my God in prayer, and seek my blessings from him directly, so do not worry about me, I am ahead.

God is not in everything as you all think, because he was not in it when they tried to murder the Emanuel’s on that sad night!

The devil was the total instigator, God may have protected Emanuel, and his wife, however, that is for him only to know and confirm, because I do not know if the Emanuel’s even believe in God.

Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque. The word is ‘vain” and not “vein” – vein is the word for the blood circulation in ones body.

Our people doesnot seem to know what they want. They are double minded. They ask for (a) and when they get (a) they complain and doesn’t even know if and what they want whether is (b), (c) or .. (d). Let us not be confused and be thinkers for ourselves. Not letting others think for us.

      • Francisco Telemaque
        May 28, 2013

Well, you know I make some awful mistakes sometimes, this is not an indication that I do not know the difference between vain, and vein, of course anyone who majored in health science must know the difference between the two even to finish as a premed student.

The same as one must know the difference between a vein, and an artery!

An idiot and all the other names they called me I am not; however, I can surely identify the stupid and uneducated ones among us.

These people were on a rampage rising hell, calling out for justice for Gong Emanuel, and the return of a suspected criminal by the government. None of the former who held the position which Prevost temporarily occupies attempted to get Seco back to the island,

I assume he returned voluntarily, I commented as I have a right to do as everyone else, my crime here seems to be the comments that something is wrong with Dominicans.

Indeed something is wrong with our people, most all of those people who engaged in calling me out of my name are people who did not even attend a secondary school you know, dumb as hell, they have nothing to say, thus they must have a target in order to be heard.

Well fire away at me, dig your stupid selves into your ditch of ignorance and confusion!

It would appear that since Prevost is successful in bringing the suspect back, they are preparing to change their tune, that is why whey talked about ” that was fast”, oh, “its nothing more than theatrical”, If I condone their garbage, I would be the best person in the world.

Well the joke is on them, not on me because I live in reality, I am not delusional, nor do I exist in an world of elusion.

The more they critique me it is the more they prove to the world that they are mad! You watch, sooner later you are going hear them say; let Seco go, they are going to turn on the government, and Prevost, they will forget about justice for Gong Emanuel!

That’s the Dominican mentality at work.

Power corrupt and it corrupts to the point where the corrupt men and women become cold hearted, unconscientous and even vicious. I don’t expect the corrupt lawyers and politicians to be affected by a guilty conscience. Can anyone imagine the politicians , senior councils and various lawyers involve having a guilty conscience at this juncture?. I don’t.
What is undeniable s that this dude Sicko Seko is forever damaged – he will be hunted by the fact that his name will be forever tied to this horrible crime- guilty or not.he has been the one in hiding for the last two years. His alleged facilitators are today still living a so called normal life, reaping whatever benifit that comes with their positions of privileges.
I am a simple mi ded person and even I can see that this Siko Secko soap opera is full of corruption, deception and political machination. I can’t help but to wonder what the heck has gone wrong with a god fearing nation. What has gne wrong with the people who are suppose to be moral custodians of our society.
I marvel at the efficiency of the police in solving crimes that are totally unrelated to politics and politicians . Two weeks ago the police was Abe to solve an arson in two days, they found the killer of the gentleman from Castle Bruce in two days as well. The list goes on. Ths GON case is undoubtedly one of whereby what happened prior to and on the day of the fire is clear as crystal however what has appened after the case is what is mst mysterious and facinating. The lies, the double talking, the False accusations suggesting self infliction, the lies about the unwillingness of the victim to cooperate with the investigation, the special arranged radio interview, the confession, the hurried imprisonment of the confessor on unrelated crimes, the Siko Secko decision to issue power of attorney, the breaking and opening of the home of Siko Seko home in St Joe, the accident that occurred on the way to the airport the day the alleged coconspirators quickly left Dominica, the alleged money laundering evidence sent to the police, the reassignment of police investigators who were supposedly doing due diligence on the said case, the surge of government ministers involving themselves on talk shows viciously defending those alleged culprits of such a horrible crime, former police commissioner foot in mouth disease and episodes, Tony Astaphan darting and hovering now there next day over there – cannot hold a straight stor; again the list goes on. What a case for an interesting movie or even theater .

A crime has been committed against Mr.Emanuel, but to politicize the matter making Mr. Emanuel an icon for justice is somewhat erroneous. The day will come when the alleged perpetrators of such crime will have there day in court and evidence and facts will be presented. As of now the movie you are looking forward to is just a fantasy plot.

Regardless to what Dominicans believe to be the motive of Mr. Prevost,we must congratulate him for what he has achieved thus far.The Prime Minister, the Minister of Security, the Minister of Legal Afrairs, the GIS Manager and the Chief Spoke Person for the Prime Minister have all, at one time or the other found themselves involved or made comments as regards the GON Emanuel case. The time has come when justice must prevail and the much criticized legal system is allowed to have its way.

Dear lord you have given us a creative heart and mind to praise you, and we use our hearts and mind to do mischief to one another. We have allow the evil spirit to take control of our entire country because of power and forget your goodness of being crucify on the cross for us. Teach us Lord to have control of the things you wish us to have and let us follow in your footstep, in order for us to be good citenzens. Help us not to put the worldly things before you, but to recognize your presence in our everyday lives.

Remove from us dear lord all these ungodly and unhealthy spirits, selfishness, jealousy, hatred, greed, unforgiveness, lies, stealing, coruption and many others, which roams the heart of our people of these country and take full control. Please forgive those of us who partake in bringing your land Dominica to the gutter with the above mention.

Lord bring back the Spiritual realm into our churches and let those who have said the vows to conduct themselves as holy as they can. I must say to you Lord that our pastors and priest have been indulging in politicking on the pulpit instead of preaching the word to us. There are many who choose to stay home on a sunday morning than to go to church because of what is happening when we come to hear the word of God. I am hoping to keep a very close attention on this litigation. However , it may appear that the counsel for the defendant might well have closed up the case; this is based on “confidential” court documents and personal investigations with attorneys.
It is however unfortunate that this matter has become a political cricket bat. I deploy the approach of the now nearly defunct UWP and the unfairly enriched and functionally corrupt DLP. People must allow lawyers to discuss these. Advocacy still have a place in Dominica.
There are also issues of credibility as per SEKO and or other elements involved in this case. I say so in light of the monstrosity of the conviction sheet of Shillingford and others. Whether one speaks about any PM or minister of government or any private citizen; the evidence must be provided in order to make a safe conviction’; I am unsure whether this will be possible in this case.

    • Sand man
      May 27, 2013

Allow lawyers to discuss this” When are you apologists going to stop and own u to that one thing that god gave you – a conscience. The only Sayers discussing this and whom you want t discuss this is people like Lennix Lawrence, Tony Astaphan,Alick Lawrence, judge Cotyle, Ali Gill, Levi Peters. Let the discussion begin my friend and be honest with yourself.
So far no one has confessed that UWP or Labor Party has ordered them to burn GON’ house. What we know for sure is that one man confessed that he was paid by Sicko Secko to do so. Why it is that so many people would rather not see that the justice system prosecute the perpetrators of such a malicious crime. If Siko mean nothing to the political parties then shut the heck up and let Siko Seko prove himself innocent

  53. Rereree
    May 27, 2013

This is clearly an earth shattering development, but one that should be studied carefully. Events have been proceeding too swiftly since acting DPP Prevost announced his intentions to have Sekko back in Dominica, to not be skeptical.

On the surface it is easy to claim that Prevost is a man of his word and that he is driven by a genuine desire to see justice served in this unresolved issue. I do not know Mr. Prevost well but those who do question his motive, given his alleged affinity with the prime minister.

So I am a little puzzled. Since events are moving so expeditiously and so unpredictably, are we seeing the unfolding of some carefully orchestrated plot with a predetermined outcome?

And importantly, why was Mervin Paul allowed to meet with Denny Shillingford alone at the prison? While I am not a lawyer, one can make the case that Paul’s meeting with Shillinford could represent a case of witness tampering. What did they discuss? Is it not reasonable to assume that Paul’s visit to the prison was to ensure a favorable witness statement from Shillingford? Already we hear that Shillingford will deny accepting money from Sekko to commit the crime, as it was originally alleged?

So it is reasonable ask whether recent developments in the Emmanuel fire bombing incident is a natural development or whether we are seeing the unfolding of a plot to bring about an outcome that will exonerate those who are directly and indirectly responsible for the crime?

the show will be over by this weekend and seko will be back in america by next week.

the DPP was placed there to do a specific job and its so clear as daylight, within his first week he called for a particular case file.. i as a former law enforcement officer knows that if a case file is not completed it should not be sent to the DPP office. case files are sent to the DPP office for prosecution.
seko at the DPP office! whoa

Do you not think a thorough investigation should be conducted? If Seko is innocent, have no fear. If he is guilty, have no fear. I have always heard that “where there is smoke, there is fire”; therefore, if Seko was NOT one of the masterminds or otherwise involved, have no fear. JUSTICE SHALL PREVAIL. Glad that he came back upon request as opposed to be extradited, then he really WOULD NOT be back in the States by weeks’ end as suggested. 64. truth offends
    May 27, 2013

According to Mr. Ian Douglas, they fooled me once, they fooled me twice and therefore they will not fool me a third time. This is nothing but a big first of April joke that was saved for late May.
I would only believe this one if it was done by an independent and international justice system. As I have stated in previous comments, they had the political game well planned. Almost 3 years now since Mr. GOM Emmanuel’s house was set on fire in which his jeep was completely destroyed, both he and his wife bearly escaped, and we all know the authorities never conducted a fear investigation despite the fact that Mr. GON was a former magistrate and is now a senior citizen.
It was not long after the bombing we heard senior counsel Tony Astaphan and the man in charge of national security Mr. Charles Savrin, went live on national radio and made some very questionable statements especially for persons with such positions. Furthermore, Danny Shillingford told Q95 that he was hired to burn the house. He went on to call the name of Earl Grant aka “Seco” as one of his employers and told the nation how he did it, who drove him to the site and who picked him up, how much he was paid etc. Instead of conducting an arrest at that time, the then commissioner dismissed the confession and later arrested the confessor for something different. Again, SC and Charles Savrin, conducted a live investigation with Seco on Kairi and we all heard what was said. Since then, the police commissioner retired, the DPP retired and the then president of Dominica whose reputation was questioned for not saying anything, also retired, and Danny Shillingford is in state prison. In a democratic country, they would have used danny’s present situation as a bait to get into the heart of the real matter since it is more serious than the crime he committed, but this is the Dominica of 2013. As far as I see it, Skerrit is about to call an election and he wants to remove all hurdles out of his way. By them bringing Seco now knowing that evidence has been taken care of already is just hogwash and I will not be fooled. Prevost, I know you meant well but even you have fallen into their trap. Sorry they just using you.

    • May 27, 2013

You are right in part. However, do you think this case is a hurdle in Skerrit’s path? I do not think so. If he has to win the election he will, if this is the end of his political career he will not win. Nothing happens before its time. Danny Shillingford may or may not be telling the whole truth, but I think that the case should be re-visited. Remember the person or persons planning a crime is just as guilty as the person committing the crime. Also, if the investigators are as good as the person they are investigating they will get to the bottom of this, unless they are a part of it.

itassi, Thanks for giving me a partial right. being in Dominica where Dominicans cannot separate politics from friendship, it might not be a hurdle. However, when you put all the dots and cross all the tees, and ask all relevant questions regarding this matter, I feel it may very well be something Skerrit would want to clear before an election, though we all know that he would not have done so if he had not gotton an all clear verdict from the corrupt justice system in we have Dominica.
Also, while I am not saying that Danny Shillingford spoke truthfully, in the name of justice, it is not the job of a politically appointed police commissioner to condemn what he said. When a person makes such a confession, the job of the police is to arrest him for questioning, and then allow the court to listen to case and then decide on guilty or not. You also said that you think that case should be re-visited. However, FYI it was NEVER visited in the first place. You re-visit something that was already visited.

I don’t think it was Ian who said that.

Yes sir/ mom. It was indeed Ian Douglas who made that statement concerning Roosevelt Skerrit. You might still be able to go on youtube and hear it. I did not quote him verbatim and that’s why I did not use quotation marks. However he was the one that made that statement while serving as minister of legal affairs, I think, under the same Skerrit government. That’s how nasty politics is.

Truth Offends, I agree with you 1000%. Nothing is done in D/ca now without a strategy. They don’t go to funerasls, 100 birthdays, flower shows, weddings etc without some strategy behind those visits. Bringing Seko now when all the evidence has already allegedly been taken care of will clear the ear and some of the spin doctors will beat their chests and say, “you see, nothing was there and we told you so.” Once again for the umpteenth time the poor people of Dominica will be again fooled.

Seko is back does not always mean “justice is back”!!!

i smell a rat!that case is going nowhere.seko will be vindicated at the courts and walk away scot free.too many big boys are implicated in this, plus i have no confidence in this politically tainted justice system in dominica..the whole thing is just theatrical and nothing more…

    • May 27, 2013

If you are right, Seko need to clear his name and mention ALL OTHERS INVOLVED. Do you think Seko is bait? Danny Shillingford should have mentioned all the others. I wonder why Seko? Was he the top man? Did the exchange came directly from him? There are a lot of unanswered questions. I hope Seko can answer them to clear himself.

Wouldn’t that be a neat, legal solution for those alleged to be the instigators behind the scenes?
This has all the makings of a Reichtag fire scenario, which in 1933 provided Hitler with the excuse to restrain the press and ban political meetings and marches and so frustrate political campaigning. Where did we learn about the “doctrine of necessity”? Pray God, and tell me I am completely mistaken!

I strongly believe this is a set up. All the people in charge were appointed by the Govt. Big money is being paid off to make this go away before it reaches the courts. .People check who are the ones in charge Dpp. lawyers, chief of police all these people were hired by the chief minister.things are happening to fast this is a set up. Why this did not happen under the former DPP ?
