Six youths killed in one week; three murdered in 16 hours in St. Kitts and Nevis

Six St. Kitts and Nevis youths have been gunned down in as many days as the apparent blood bath continued with three dead in separate incidents in less than 24 hours.

Residents woke up Thursday morning to news that two more youths were murdered (Wednesday night and Thursday morning) within seven hours and by mid-day another youth perished by the gun.

The Old Road community, already mourning the double murder of two of their own last Friday night, is reeling from the murder of Gavin Rogers just before midday Thursday and a short distance from the Old Road Police Station.

What happened here for the year is pure madness. We are by no means proud of what is happening here in St. Kitts & Nevis or anywhere else in the Caribbean when it relates to crime.

What I ask of Dominica is to look at our crime statistics and don’t allow yourselves to follow what has happened to us. USA gang influence, US/UK Deportees coming home with nothing to do but criminal activities, focusing on GDP but forgetting the youths.

We have a wonderful school system here but they cater for the academic inclined and forget about the people with skills. Many of the youth in St. Kitts & Nevis are overlooked and neglected by both parents and teachers because they are not bright then they end up on the corner getting attention from the gangs who create an environment for them where they feel comfortable and loved.

Focus on the youth and everything will fall into place.

    Proud Kittivisian.

A horrific situ on a tiny island with under 50,000 people. Bring in SSU troops from the region sweep entire country by district and by house with laser focus on the hotspots. Continuous island wide sweeps and raids over a six month period will find the firearms and arrest the shooters. In such a small physical space it can be done only needs the political will.

So what is the angle of this story :?: st kitts is a gangstar’s paradise, i have a good feeling the perpetrator were other, other youths. Same thing goes on in trinidad, jamacia, brooklyn , people only get vex, when it is the police or some white man that kills them. next story

So why is it that all those who take pleasure in comparing us with them don’t also make these information available to the public.

Is this the model we wish to emulate? The St Kitts that has left us in the dust of human progress?

That is such a stupid response. If you cannot see merit in us emulating the GOOD that our caribbean neighbours have achieved while being mindful of the BAD to avoid it, then you need serious help my friend. No one has suggested that we have a model of crime. People are asking for better opportunities for all Dominicans. My thoughts with the people of St. Kitts as they deal with this terrible crime situation on what is a beautiful island.

My dear fellow during Antigua’’s most rapid period of economic progress under the Bird Adminidtrations it was a cesspool of crime and corruption. But we all flocked there. Similar activities and economic progress is occurring on St Kitts, yet at every opportunity the UWP compares our condition relative to St Kitts. Well the chickens have come home to roost.

I am left to wonder what is the agenda of some of us. Don’t we want our country to be among the best in the world? Why would you want to highlight the bad? We strive to be better so we should want to emulate the economic prosperity of St. Kitts and other prosperous countries while trying our best to avoid the bad. SMH
