Charles Isaac better known in the calypso arena as “Sour Sour”, has won this year’s carnival road march title with “Grinder”. His gets a cash prize of $3000.

This, according to official information from the Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA), Deryck “De Hunter” St. Rose.

Dominica News Online (DNO) was informed that in arriving at the road march results, DCA representatives, located at strategic positions along the route, used tally sheets to record the number of times each calypso was played.

Next in line was 9 time King Dennison “Dice” Joseph with Jumbee Money. Lugarz came in 3rd place with “Karessah” and Intruder took the 4th position with “Eyes Closed”.

Sour Sour first tied for the road march title with the Hurricane in 1994 with his very popular Cool Pipe. He also won in 2011 with “No name, No warrant” popularly know as “Yaw Yaw”.

Meantime, St Rose said this year’s Calypso finals was a great one and all the artistes gave a very good account of themselves.

“We are looking forward to having an even better season come 2020,” he said.

He also thanked the patrons and persons who supported the association throughout the season.

Using some of the prize money Sour Sour can now easily replace the “grinder” his brother took from him. Hope the brother will not get jealous as this new “grinder” should do a much better job!!

Just like dice is celebrated as the 9 time calypso king, the most prolific calypsonian in our history, Sour needs to be celebrated in the same light. This man takes roadmarch whenever he feels like it. from since the days of cool pipe til now he has won numerous road march titles. Yes there were better songs with better messages, but Sour’s songs does have a feeling! make you want to hit the road. that is why he is road march king.

Trini have ‘famalay’ and we have ‘Grinder’… and they wonder why Bouyon not progressing! We celebrate mediocrity, so many well written, well produced and well mix n master etc songs were released for the season. We ignore all of them and decide a free up song, from someone who can barely sing, with no lyrics etc is road march. Next year I guess we will send Sour Sour to Trini to compete in soca monarch alongside the likes of Mr. Killa and Teddyson John!

This is great comedy in calypso form, very artistic. At the beginning you are tempted to laugh at him, But then you laugh with him and end up enjoying great comedy. It was Shakespare who implied that a joker or a clown is a very smart person. It takes a lot of smarts and originality to make your audience laugh. His cash was well earned. It was no Jumbee Money, no J D.

Ridiculous selection. “Take out de teeth” is a better road march tune.

@Laplaine Observer, Take out de teeth was a good road match song, unfortunately, the judging is base on how many times the song was played on the road. I have to say from what I heard the DJs were not playing much of the calypsos this year.

      Congratulation Sour, Sour

      March 6, 2019

road march is determined by whats played most on the road, not quality of song etc everyone was playing this Congrats Sour Sour

It is not based on your opinion or that of anyone. As you may have read it is based on a tally. Get rid of your childish bias.

It is not what is a better road march song, it is which song is PLAYED THE MOST on the road, thus making it the most popular song. It is what the people like the most
