Kandy, Sri Lanka – Rookie West Indies batsman Darren Bravo says he is enjoying his time in international cricket and is trying to use every innings as a learning experience.
The 21 year-old left hander closed the first day of the 3rd and final ERI Test against Sri Lanka on 63 not out as the Windies reached 134 for 2 on another rain hit day. He added 115 for the second wicket with Devon Smith, who made a well compiled 55 on his return to Test cricket at the Pallekele Stadium, Test cricket’s newest venue.
After the day’s play on Wednesday, Bravo said: “This is just my fourth Test innings and I have been learning with every innings. I just want to keep learning and try to get better. Test cricket is the highest form of the game and I want to do well in Test cricket.”
“I am 63 not out and hopefully I can go on from here and get a big one. I got two decent starts in the first two Test matches, but I’m a bit disappointed in the second one, with the way I fell. But it’s all a learning experience and at international level it is important that I learn from my mistakes, and learn fast. It’s very nice to go there and perform, entertain and just enjoy my international career. I just want to keep focussed and continue to do my best.”
In his first Test innings at Galle Bravo made 58, which spanned three hours. He followed up with a stroke-filled 80 with four sixes in the next innings at R Premadasa Stadium. He ended 0 not out in the second innings.
On Wednesday, Bravo went to the crease to face the second ball of the match after Chris Gayle was trapped LBW to the first ball.
“At this point it is important that Shiv and I continue and try and build a decent partnership and try our best to achieve our team goals. We just have to keep going and build a good total for the team,” Bravo explained.
“I batted well with Devon, and he played well, and helped me early in the innings,” Bravo said.
“I came in to face the second ball of the match after Chris got out but I was not nervous. At some stage in your career you will have to go in early and take the new ball, so I am always prepared.”
Play will resume at 9.45 am on Thursday (12.15 am Eastern Caribbean Time/11.15 pm Wednesday Jamaica Time).
Keep on striving for good performances Darren.
