2015 Secondary Schools Athletics Meet begins Tuesday

The Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Constituency Empowerment through the Sports Division will stage the 2015 Secondary Schools Athletics Championship on Tuesday 10th March and Wednesday 11th March at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

Day 1 will commence at 9.30am with a brief opening ceremony. This will be followed by action on the track and during the field events. On Day 2, the events will start at 12 Noon and go into the early evening under the lights.

Thirteen (13) schools have registered to participate in this year’s meet:

  1. Castle Bruce Secondary School
  2. Convent High School
  3. Dominica Grammar School
  4. Dominica State College
  5. Goodwill Secondary School
  6. Isaiah Thomas Secondary School
  7. North East Comprehensive School
  8. Pierre Charles Secondary School
  9. Wesley High School
  10. Portsmouth Secondary School
  11. Business Training Centre
  12. St. Mary’s Academy
  13. Dominica Community High School

This meet is used as the basis to select students to participate in the Windward Islands Schools Games and it also grants athletes further opportunity to get qualified to represent Dominica at the 2015 CARIFTA Games.

Last year, the Pierre Charles Secondary topped both the girls and boys categories.  The Portsmouth Secondary School came  in 2nd and the North East Comprehensive came  in 3rd in the Boys category.

North East Comprehensive School came in 2nd and the Dominica Grammar School came in 3rd in the Girls category.

Jazan Laurent, Camron Carbon, Anelia Austrie, Romelcia Phillip, Ardelia Jno Baptiste and Luan Gabriel were last year’s top performing athletes.
