Another DFA official gets the boot

Mere days after the general conference voted 24-7 to place a further ban on disgraced president of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) Patrick John, its general secretary Clifford “Bala” Celaire, John’s handpicked right hand man, has been dismissed.

Celaire received his walking papers from president of the DFA Glen Etienne on Wednesday (July 4, 2012).

After taking up the post as president, John as mandated by the DFA constitution was empowered to select his own “general secretary”.

He opted for Celaire, a close friend who has worked with him over the years.

It has been widely suggested that Celaire was “less than loyal” to the present sitting president, and was alleged to have been engaging in moves aimed at “frustrating” the Glen Etienne led executive.

DNO is following up the story and will give updates as they become available.

Clifford “Bala” Celaire

Wrong move/Right move?: While it is true that the Secretary has some influence, the President is the one who leads the way. Has Balla really done or said things that are detrimental to the planned development of football. Like, Government, the DFA should have its integrated development plan, and basically implement it. This plan was done by Dick Howard a few years ago. REVIEW IT/UPDATE IT. THATS WHAT SHOULD BE ON THE PRESIDENTS MIND. WITH ALL THE FOOTBALL THAT IS BEING “PLAYED” INCREASE THE QUALITY OF FOOTBALL AND GET “CROWDS” TO GO WATCH GOOD FOOTBALL.”THAT SHOULD BE THE MAIN GOAL OF THE DFA”

Wow the crab in the barrel syndrome. Instead of coming together as one people and working for the betterment of the race black people are tearing down and firing one another to show who is boss, whilst others on the sides are cheering on and even suggesting other names to be victimized.

This should be about football and Dominica
    not about petty gutter politics.

Grow up Dominicans! get united in love instead of hatred. Whilst you are busy destroying one another for narrow egotistic purposes, other united races and cultures are infiltrating and conquering everything around you.

Well done. Celaire should have resigned a long time ago, since he was handpicked by the chief, Patrick John. This is certainly a move in the right direction and it is not at all surprising. The secretary is the right hand man of the president and if he cannot be trusted, then he has to say bye bye. The president and the secretary, these are two heads in one.

the article said that “according to the DFA constitution,John was able to handpick his GS”.It seems that the current President has the right to do lokewise; so what will you say later, Mr. Glen “handpicked” his GS and so now he/she should go too?

@River Street. It would appear that you may have been living overseas as well. Please highlight Bala’s significant contribution to the sport of football other than personal interest.(As a matter of fact it was a matter of buying and sell( Again ask treasurer Phillip White who collected the bills and used to cry foul on the prices.

Bala don’t pay them no mind. You have made a significant contribution to football in DA. Kensborough United and Bathroad Rovers and cock street massive thank you!

So sad that the man with the most statistics in the football fraternity has gotten the boot. We may have to hire Mr. Harvis Shillingford to put our stats together for us from now on. The last time I checked the only thing the general secretary was good at was who played who 30yrs ago and who played on the team and what was the score. He has not done anything else other than working towards his personal interest.(If you think I am telling untruth ask the treasurer, Phillip White).

There are a number of critics out there as I have read in this blog. Can anyone explain to me what this man has brought to the fore. I stand to be corrected. However, I have been around footbal in the Roseau area for the last thirty six years and I yet to noticed anything of significance this gentleman has done to develop the sport. This man was a total waste. Good move Mr. Ettiene, you have showed that you have the testicular fortitude to do what is right and I know you are well fortified by a bunch of solid men. However, if you feel that there are crooks among you, I will leave it to you to do what you know is the best for football.

Before I conclude, would you imagine the utterances of Mr. Phillip White. I honestly felt that the plane had just landed and Philip White got to town after living out of Dominica for the last(25) twenty years. This man is talking about Patrick John like he is a saint. Tell Phillip White for me to stop that cockiness that he has been displaying over the most recent development in football and continue to look after the coffers of footballers.

Tired Tim knows Clifford as profound sportsman and always had a lot of passion for soccer at an early age. This is a citizen that sacrificed his livelihood and took matters in his own hands to ensure our youths would be more proactive in participating in that particular sports. For decades he has been active in emphasizing his commitment in enhancing football in Dominica.Stop this repercussion and that deceptive practice because as a president, your behavior is inappropriate. You need to be restrained by your majority supporters sooner rather than later.Your initiative indicates a clear idea of what kind of person you are.

    July 4, 2012

There are others that need to be removed from the executive. I believe since the John scandal, fresh elections should have been called and allow footballers to put persons who are interested in the development of the sport to run their affairs. Football cannot be run as usual. If persons presently on the executive and are serious, then they will b voted in.

  27. kakarat
    July 4, 2012

It was all part of the plan. I was told by a delegate that once the resolution succeeded that Celaire would be fired. I am not surprised. Let us hope that with the removal of these two gentlemen that football will progress by leaps and bounds as it was felt (in the football fraternity)they were the ones holding back the progress of Dominica’s football.
On another note, listening to the announcement of the notice for the meeting, it referred to teams instead of clubs. I think that this is something hampering progress in sports in Dominica. We have too many teams and too few clubs. Are strict rules applied as to who can represent a team/club?
Is the FA made up of clubs or teams? what does their constitutin say?
To my knowledge, a club is an association of persons sharing a common interest (football)and has a structure (Chairman/President, Secretary, Treasurer, etc., and the club selects a team to play.
It would be interesting to find out in all the sporting disciplines how many clubs there are in Dominica.
I make this point to say that it plays a major role in the state of sports in Dominica today.

    • Correction
      July 4, 2012

So are you saying only these two men can move the association to leaps and bounds?

      • kakarat
        July 5, 2012

No! I am not. What I am saying is: from the comments on DNO and on the street, it appears that the problems in Dominica’s football was because of these two men.

A plan was afoot long ago to get rid of PJ. As simple as that.

Further, how many clubs/teams have meetings to decide which way they are going to vote? I venture to say that on a lot of accassions members of the club/teams do not have a say in what position their club/team is going to take at the AGM.

    • dominican
      July 6, 2012

remember that PJ planned to have all teams transformed into clubs but all that was forgotten and slipped through the cracks, because his intrest has been the betterment of the people who put him there.
