BUSINESS BYTE: Dominican boys head to the Digicel Kick Start Academy in Jamaica

digicelFriday 24th October 2014 – Roseau, Dominica: Four outstanding young footballers from Dominica leave the island this morning, to attend the Digicel Kick Start Academy in Jamaica.

They will undergo a week-long intensive training under top coaches from Barclays Premier League side Chelsea Football Club, and are among over 40 boys from the Caribbean and Central America who are being given that chance of a lifetime this year.

The four: Andrez Joseph of the Dominica Grammar School, Delroy Parker of the Goodwill Secondary School, Gylles Mitchel of the Dominica State College and Quamie Bell of Saint Mary’s Academy were selected during Kick Start Clinics held here for the first time in June, 2014. Quamie Bell, the wildcard selection, secured his spot following a voting process online.

A total of thirty players were engaged in the Kick Start Clinics on island. According to coaches of the Chelsea Football Club, the Dominican boys displayed good attitude and technical ability during the training.

Digicel’s grassroots football continues to grow and through this initiative, the company is reinforcing its commitment to the development of youth. Digicel Dominica is optimistic that those chosen to represent the nature island at the Academy will do their utmost.

The training starts on October 26, 2014; the boys will leave Jamaica on November 02, 2014.

    Digicel…you are selling yourself short, no mention of the Academy and your sponsorship of same over the years!
