Canefield Strikers win Southern District Football League

Canefield Strikers

Canefield Strikers stunned the large crowd of supporters mainly from Bagatelle, Fond St. Jean and Point Carib by winning the keenly contested final of the Justina Charles Southern District Football League.

A forty five second first half goal by Tefton Pacquette left the crowd in shock until about half way through the first half when Bafondpoint equalized, with a goal from Eric Defoe, to bring the crowd back to their feet.

The excitement faded from the partisan crowd when in the forty second minute of the second half Elvis Guiste found the back of the net to seal the championship for Canefield Strikers, two goals to one.

It was a successful league organized by the Southern District Sports Committee and the committee wishes to thank all the players, sponsors and villagers who gave their support to the organizers and the league in general.

The prize giving of the league will take place at the opening of the Southern District 2012 Rounders and Cricket League carded for March 4 at the Geneva Playing Field.

    The district sports committee did a good job. However the DFA must help with training referees in the area. They – the DFA – should next year allow district teams in the DFA league rather than having all the south teams playing individually in the all island league. GOOD FOR CANEFIELD.
