Former West Indies Team Manager, Ricky Skerrit has replaced Jamaican, Dave Cameron as president of Cricket West Indies (CWI). His new vice president is President of the St Vincent & The Grenadines Cricket Association Inc., Dr. Kishore Shallow.
The two were were elected at the CWI presidential election which was held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Sunday March 24.
Skerritt, 62, defeated Dave Cameron by a margin of 8-4.
Cameron was seeking a fourth term in office after serving three two-year terms.
His running mate was the incumbent CWI president, Dominican Emannuel Nanthan.
However, according to Loop, although the Windward Islands Cricket Board, Barbados Cricket Board, and Guyana Cricket Board had stated publicly that they would support Cameron, the 47-year-old businessman received a big setback to his re-election bid after the Jamaica Cricket Association voted not to support its countryman.
The Leeward Islands Cricket Board and Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board had publicly stated that they would support Skerritt and his running mate, Dr Kishore Shallow.
Loop reported that just a few hours before the election, the Skerritt campaign gained momentum with two more former players – Roger Harper of Guyana and Deryck Murray of Trinidad and Tobago – offering support.
Former West Indies captains, Guyanese Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards of Antigua and Darren Sammy of St Lucia, had also supported the Skerritt campaign.
Skerritt had previously been a cabinet minister and senator in the national assembly of St Kitts and Nevis and has also served as minister of Tourism. He has an MSc from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
Skerritt and the youthful Shallow, 35, have created a robust ten point ‘Cricket First’ plan that identifies the strategies needed to regain global competitiveness and dominance. It focuses on the skill and character development of young players with extensive use of science, technology and innovation.
Lets hope things will improve. WI cricket has been stagnant for a while now, Ricky Skeritt was part of that period when he served as manager. So let us wait and see.
It’s a lovely day to live to see that Nanthon n Cameron out of sight…. Oh happy day when they voted them away…….
As a true fan / supporter of the WINDIES cricket team, congratulate the incoming men, and thank the outgoing men you their work.
Nanthan was president and Dominica cricket was still treated like beach cricket. We get less west Indies games no Dominican not making west Indies team again. You must be from a big country
So Roosevelt Skerrit official…. Emmanuel Nanthan got bowled out for a 🦆
Mano…………ouch!!
Congratulations to you guys. Dr Shallow is a very vibrant young man. Met him when he was a CARICOM Youth Ambassador. This is a much-needed change and a great one at that. Wishing you all many success.
This is a healthy change for the better of our regional cricket and I support it. Does this also mean the replacement of Verlyn Faustin, the Antigua attorney, as CWI’s Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O.). She is a close ally of Mannual Nanthan and an authorised CBI agent for the sale of Dominican citizenships under mr. Nanthan (listed as Verlyn Liz-Ann Faustin in Roseau)’. I hope so because I always felt uneasy about that relationship, too close for comfort one might say. A complete airing of the CWI is called for.
@Zandoli – Donald Trump is going where?
If you meant Trump will be going on to win the US 2020 presidential elections, then okay.
Congrats to Skerritt and Shallow on their victory to Head the West Indies Cricket Board. I am hopeful with the new changes at least we can see the reinstating of Darren Sammy Pollard, Narine and most of the players who were left out of the squad because of spitefulness. GOOD RIDDANCE OF CAMERON.!!!!
Reinstate them for what their lousy conduct and mediocre performance isn’t far removed from what Cameron is accused of and they were losing anyway. Their youthful replacements are winning support them and blood younger ones coming through. Skerrit presidency empowers a wider stakeholdership St. Kitts never had a test player its good for them to have skin in the game at the highest level.
Congrats to new board…. Good for WI cricket
Hope we can see a Renaissance in our cricket
Rally around the windies
So Cameron/ Nanthan were seeking a forth fourth term and they were voted out? I did not see that coming because even up to earlier today it was clear that they were going to win without a problem not knowing that there were secret voters. Boy that is a sign of things to come because like Cameron /Nathan, Skerrit is seeking a fourth term and there are a lot of secret voters that taking all he giving and not talking but the day he calls the election the people will talk against him at the polls. I see that coming and I know it will happen
i still red Roosevelt Skerrit must win again because its Ricky and Roosevelt Skerrit. R&S.
Cheers!!!
Finally!!! The next to go will be Donald Trump.
I am very happy with this change. Looking forward to great things. Congrats to CWI new President and Vice President. Truly believe this change is for the better.
These guys wreak WICBC and was going down the gutters. Heard the VP making noise in Jamaica over the week end this and that how good Cameroon was not even their country elected them . You all brought down cricket west indies to its lowest, you had to go and more to go. Worthless duo.
