Dominica shines in regional netball festival

dno sportsThe curtains will come down on the 4th Regional 13 & Under Netball Festival organized by the Sports Division in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, on Thursday, August 15, 2013 when the final two (2) matches will be played at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth.

At 4:00 pm – Antigua and Barbuda will come up against St. Kitts to determine the 3rd placed team of the tournament.

Winner of the Round Robin stage, the Dominica National Team will come up against the second placed team – Dominica B, for the championship Match at 5:00 pm.

Later, the girls are expected to be in good spirits when they are recognized at the closing/prize giving ceremony at the Officers’ Quarters in Cabrits at 8:00pm.

Along with the usual team positions awards, the Best Defender, Best Shooter, Best Centre Court Player and MVP of the tournament are amongst other awards to be handed out at the ceremony.

This year, the Dominica National Team, Dominica B Team, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Montserrat participated in this netball festival, which was initiated by the Sports Division four years ago to provide a grassroots netball programme that would expose the younger girls in our region to competitive netball, thus complementing the Caribbean Netball Association’s U-16 tournament.

With Coaches like Nabi Wallace on Team A and Cynthia Joseph on team B success is guaranteed. Keep up the good work in the North and by extension Dominica. Managers and Assistant Coaches are not forgotten

Cynthia Joseph was not a coach this year. Male coaches in Nabi and Wengbert were used. Clearly you were not at the games at all? I guess you just took it for granted that she would be. But for true why she was not coaching? She took a break this year?

For true??? But I saw her at all the games eh. Maybe she took a break. But…she is doing such a great job! Males only! Do I smell gender discrimination hmmmm

Dominica name is usually associated with last or one before the last in Netball. It is so nice to see/hear that things are changing. Congrats to all those who played a part in making this thing happen and for Dominica’s success. Go DA!!!

Congrats to all the Young ladies taking part in this Tournament. Special mention must be made of the Dominica Teams and the Coaches. Keep up the good work and the continuous efforts towards the growth of the sport. Good Luck this evening ladies!!!
BTW- Netball needs it’s own space in the City of Roseau for training and competition.

Why just Roseau as opposed to all of Dominica?! In case you’ve been under a rock somewhere in the stone age, “Roseau isn’t all of Dominica, think holistically and evolve!” Thanks god those days of every single event being held in “Roseau”, was a given is fast ending.

Spread the love around the island deary, and not just try keeping everything in as you said, “Roseau”, plus it shows others the benefits one gets from this, and more importantly the competitors get to look forward to travelling from one part of the island to another, experiencing different surroundings and making new friends along the way.

Very much the type of eagerly anticipated fun my children experience and the smiles on their faces that comes from them representing the “Greater London Schools”, which in turn offers them an exciting opportunity to participate in the “English Schools Championships” in a variety of disciplines.

The same for children who travel down to London as well in their away fixtures for national competitons. My oh my, have they had some competitive yet brilliant competitions and in the process made some very close friends as well.

Humans are always scared of the unknown, or things that aren’t the norm as we’ve been socialised to believe, but thankfully once we’ve opened our minds and not be so judgemental, the experience and lifelong lessons are generally well worth it all.

Why not open your eyes to new horizons, as you may just appreciate the benefits to be gained as an individual.

      Much Blessings……….. :)
