The Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA), in association with the Dominica Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity, launched a week-long basketball clinic, yesterday, seeking to better equip coaches to facilitate the development of basketball players on the island.
President of DABA, Dave Baron, said that the clinic is part of the Association’s strategic plan, with the view of developing the coaching structure of teams in Dominica at every level.
“We’re trying our best to see how we can develop basketball, taking it from the youth levels all the way up to the national team and see how we can compete regionally and internationally. But in order for us to do that we need to have a proper coaching structure in place, have our coaches trained so they can pass on what they learnt to their players. In developing the individual teams, we can really see the sport growing,” Baron stated.
The sessions will be facilitated by Puerto Rico-based FIBA instructor Edwin Pena Ramos, who has been giving such courses since 2005.
“I guarantee that by the end of the week, you guys will know how to run basketball correctly here in Dominica. I am here to help out in any way, shape or form,” Pena said while addressing the coaches in attendance.
The clinic is made possible, in it’s entirety, through the generosity of the Dominica Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity.
