DAVA to hold Volleyball Course for teachers

Some twenty primary and secondary school teachers and youth sports officers are expected to participate in a volleyball Course for Teachers, to be held under the International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB’s) Volleyball Cooperation Programme (VCP).

The course, which will be conducted by FIVB Instructor Mr. Chuanlun LIU will be held from April 5th to 9th, at the Saint Mary’s Academy, from 8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.  Level 2 Volleyball Coach and International Referee Candidate Marcus Blondel, as well as Japanese Volunteer coach Yosuke UNO will assist the FIVB Instructor.

The Sports Division is collaborating closely with the Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association (DAVA) in the exercise, in an effort at equipping teachers and youth sports officers with the knowledge and skills required to support its volleyball and minivolleyball programme in the schools.

The Sports Division recently concluded its 2010 Secondary Schools Volleyball Tournament, in which several schools participated, with both girls and boys teams.
Several of the promising young players who participated in the tournament have been selected by the DAVA, to form the core of national Youth and Junior teams that will undergo training in preparation for regional and continental tournaments.

Several of those young players have been incorporated in teams and are currently participating in the LIME 2010 National Volleyball League.
