Decisions from recent WICB Board of Directors meeting

The Board of Directors of the West Indies Cricket Board met in St Lucia on Saturday March 24th.

Following are summaries of some of the major decisions taken by the Board.

WICB Governance Report

Territorial Board Directors reported to the Board the positions of the respective Territorial Boards on the report on the Board’s governance structure as prepared by the WICB Governance Committee.

The Board agreed to allow the Territorial Boards more time to consider the report. Territorial Boards will now have until May to have further consultations with their various constituencies.

Charles Wilkin, Chairman of the Governance Committee, had presented the report to the Board at the last meeting in February.

The Board had decided then that the report, given that it dealt with the core issue of governance, be discussed with the Territorial Boards for their consideration.

The report provides a menu of recommendations aimed at an overhaul of the governance structure of the WICB.

In addition to the chairman, the WICB Governance Committee also comprises Grenville Phillips and Elson Crick.

Guyana Situation

With regard to the Guyana team’s participation in the WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament the Board directed the WICB management to put a process in place to ensure that a representative Guyana team endorsed by the WICB can continue to participate in the tournament.

Chris Gayle Matter

The Board was advised that Mr. Chris Gayle has signed the CARICOM brokered agreement but with a ‘side letter’ from Mr. Gayle.

Prime Minister, The Honourable Dr. Ralph Gonsalves provided a copy of Mr. Gayle’s ‘side letter’. The matter was discussed and the Board will respond to the Honourable Prime Minister shortly.

I agree to keep Gayle out – permanently. Gayle does not have Windies cricket at heart. if hew did he would have accepted a retainer contract and seek out the lucrative playing deals in between windies schedule. They went the other way wrong and refused the retainer’s contract just to freed to play anywhere and anytime he so desires. Windies cricket will come afterwards. My support is to allow Chris Gayle to go after the money wherever it is. He can then retire with his “Jamaican billions”.

you know you all got some bolls, gayle is the best batsman in the west indies today to date, what else you all got? zilch zolch nadah, some some time’ish batsmen,i am sure, should you ask sammy if he would welcome gayle back in the lostindies batting line up,he would say with open arms, gayle has become a legend right now,and it is because of you all ignorants and criticism, the man has a right to speak as he sees fit, even if the lostindies board dissapproves, you all think that you all understand where gayle was comming from, but who knows, maybe there is lot more than the issues we learned about, you all must remember there was a contract issue before gayle said what he said, one thing does lead to another, cut the man some slack, because take it as you like, lost indies need gayle back in the line up.

I BELIEVE THE WICB SHOULD NOT ACCEPT ANY SIDE LETTER ,IN FACT, ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE RETURN OF GAYLE TO THE WEST INDIES CRICKET TEAM. THE TEAM IS UNITED AND HAVING GAYLE RIGHT NOW WOULD BRING ABOUT A DISTRACTION.MANY CRICKET LOVERS ESPECIALLY IN JAMAICA WOULD LIKE GAYLE TO BE CAPTAIN OF THE TEAM.PLEASE LET GAYLE GO,THE MAN WANTS TO BE A CRICKET MERCENARY,SOONER OR LATTER THE YOUNG WEST INDIES CRICKET ARE GOING TO REQUEST THE SAME NOC LIKE GAYLE,THAT IS,PERMISSION TO PLAY CRICKET ALL OVER THE WORLD REGARDLESS TO WETHER IT INTERFERES WITH W.I. SCHEDULE.
