President of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) Patrick John has announced that the national football teams will participate in a number of friendly matches, in-between competitions, through the month of November.
John was speaking at a press conference last week where Dominica’s football ambassador to Canada Trevor Bertrand handed over a donation of two sets of kit gear to the DFA.
John said that Dominica will take on teams from a number of Caribbean countries as well as a Venezuelan team. Some of the games will be played right here in Dominica.
He said, “I would like to thank the press for the coverage they have been giving us for the past few weeks now, starting with our U-23 tournament, the Nicaragua game, the U-17 girls and now Panama to come and probably Venezuela and Anguilla or St Maarten. So for the next few weeks we will be having a lot of football in Dominica. Many teams will be coming to our shore, which is unheard of for a long time unless you have a tournament with five or six teams but each time it’s one team coming, one team going.”
John additionally pointed out that after Dominica’s recent mild defeat to Nicaragua the national team has been sought keenly by other teams for friendly matches as they prepare for their return encounters with the teams they played.
He stated, “We’re trying to get a friendly game before the Panama game and most of the other teams, they’re rushing here and there. Last year we were trying to get the Windward Islands to play here in Dominica as a warm-up for all the Windward Island Teams before going to the World Cup [qualifiers]. They never reacted. Now, they are looking for friendly matches. If you notice all of them got beaten badly except for Dominica. Now they want Dominica to play with them. “
John continued, “Anguilla is interested, St Maarten is interested. If they agree [St Maarten or Anguilla] will be here for Friday 30 September. We were trying to get the Venezuelan National Team but they are occupied in another tournament but they have indicated that they have a Super U-23, which is almost equivalent to the national team and we are hoping to have that team here in November, prior to going to Nicaragua and Panama for the return legs.”
The Dominica U-17 women’s team offered the best recent result of all the country’s teams when they beat St Kitts on Sunday, 5-nil.

Hello,
I am a football shirt collector in Canada.
I am trying to collect one official football shirt from every national team on earth.
I was wondering if anyone here could help me get a hold of an official national team shirt for Dominica?
Thanks, Dominica would be a great next addition to the 151 national shirts in my collection.
Thanks,
Eric
Dominica Going to score 2,000,000 and panama will be 0.
Well done the Ex Honorable Prime Minister, Kernel Patrick Roland John.
“dominicans” i think our job in Dominica is to critique and bring others down” alas papa bodie
PJ while i commend you on your efforts in football for Dominica, and the team ofcourse, there are still some gaps which for many years have not been addressed. if we are serious about nuturing and developing our football we need to accept that there is a gap between the academies and league football. during this time young players are strayed and the energy they would put in football like in their earlier years deminises due to other influences in society. As the head of football and being accountable for the development of the game, i asked that as much as possible that you look into this gap in order to enable a flow of talent from youth to senior football.
One point to note,What helped us in the 80’sand 90’s were the village leagues, there were many happening around the island which was good, they need much more support and encouragement. Have you or your senior team memebers been to Mahaut to see the amount of people who come out to support the game every weekend? it’s a site to see, just goes to show that Football is still the number 1 sport and we should be doing much better nationally ,regionally and internationally. let’s focus on the pain areas, the areas that needs more attention. for a start support the local leagues, encourage outside teams to roam arond the country to take part like before. Support the younger players after they leave their academies. IMprove on your marketing efforts, work with the local businesses to help with the development of football. Thats my 2cents.
all them people who saying job well done is just a few hunger guys who are singing for there super what hell job well done.man pj jail is the only place you should be right now for trying to sell d/a while you were pm
Wat i do not understand is why this man not in jail for all the atrocities he and his goones commited against the people of dominica?Just seeing his face brings back a lot of painful memories.
EAT the PAIN DRINK the PAIN GO TO BED with the PAIN – YOU DESERVE THE PAIN – NUFF SAID
But if he is now doing good things then credit must be given.
for football to move somewhere in DA THEY HAVE TO START PAY THE PLAYERS AND STOP STEALING THE MONEY THEY MAKING AND WHAT FIFA GIVING THEM
PJ, what is the status of the state-of-the-art football stadium in StockFarm? What happen to that money?
you sound like a fisherman on a fishing expedition – FIFA SAY PJ CLEAN
go fight with FIFA now
Fifa never said anyone was clean. Investigations are not over yet. Why our DFA never responded to invitations to answer questions? Bin Hamman was banned for giving bribes. All those who received bribes will pat the price. Our DFA reps will be banned. It is just a matter of time.
Well done PJ. and the rest of the football association.
EXCELLENT JOB P.J.
What excellent job has he or is he doing, very funny.
Stop hating you idiots. If you want to talk about atrocities then you nedd to open your eyes to see whats happening in Dominica now. It seems your eyes are wide SHUT
there is none so blind as they that WILL NOT SEE
