Thirteen athletes from Dominica took part in the 2nd Carifta Trials of the Guadeloupe Athletics Federation which was held on Saturday 28th February 2015, at the Baie Mahault Stadium Guadeloupe.
It was disappointing for the officials accompanying the team as none of the athletes meet the qualifying standards for the 2015 Carifta Games, which was the main aim of the trip.
However, there were a lot of positives that was drawn from the competition, knowing that they were all coming from a disadvantaged situation such as very little or no competition and lack of experience of the athletes in the track setting.
The best performance of the meet came from Derick St. Jean (Dominica State Collage/ Pioneers) running 48.83sec in the 400m and 22.25sec in the 200m.
Josh Toussaint of ITSS/Aspirers threw 15,25m in the Shot Put and 37.57m U-18 boys, while Raheem Joseph and Kihmo Benjamin both of N.E.C.S/Wesmar, went over 14m in the Shot Put and over 40m in the Discus for the U-20 boys.
Tianna Jno Lewis of N.E.C.S/Wesmar finished among the top three girls in the 100m under 18 girls although the final results did not accredit her as a finisher, she however came back to jump 5.05m in the long Jump.
Zellie Charles of the D.S.C/Wesmar went past 5.28m in the Long Jump and 1.55m High Jump under 20 Girls.
The Girls high jump was disappointing as the girls were all out of the jumping form and were not able to give their best.
Other athletes taking part at this meet were;
• Naomi Scotland N.E.C.S/Wesmar – Shot Put and Discus U-18 girls 10.11m and 22.34m respectively
• Alika St. John N.E.C.S/Wesmar – Shot Put and Discus U-18 girls 8.95m and 20.56m
• Rhami Joseph D.S.C/Conwesmarnites – 800m U-20 boys 2.18min
• Dhanique Green C.H.S/Conwesmarnites Finalist 100m 13.10sec and 4.97m Long Jump U-18 girls
• Marian Charles S.M.S.S/Conwesmarnites 100m and 200m U-18 girls
• Clarinda Pierre SMSS/Comwesmarnites High Jump 1.45m and Long Jump 4.65m U-20 girls
• Anelia Austrie N.E.C.S/Wesmar High Jump 1.50m and 400m 1.04min U-18 girls
It is evident that the athletes are in need of much competition if we are to get proper representation at this year’s Carifta Games in St. Kitts.
Many thanks go out to all who help to make this meet possible for the athletes.

Can someone say where the team Conwesmarnites are from. Are they a branch from Wesmar?
don’t like that heading. the athletes who went and participate should be congratulated and cheered for their effort. there is no disappointments in life; only lessons to learn.
DOMINICA DISAPPOINTED REALLY?! What you put in that’s what you get out.
