Dominica fails to capture medal position in volleyball championship

Dominica suffered yet another humiliating defeat at the 2012  Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Championship in St. Lucia. This time it was at the hands of Antigua in the bronze medal match.

As if to prove that Sunday night’s dismal performance was no fluke, the Dominica team again demonstrated poor performances in service reception, attacks, blocking, floor defense, services and virtually every area of volleyball.

Antigua took advantage of this flat-footed, lackadaisical performance to grab the bronze medal.

Meanwhile, St. Lucia went on to defeat rivals St. Kitts (3-1) in the gold medal match. With the win, St. Lucia advances to the NORCECA continental finals set for 2013 in the U.S.A.

Dominica’s Ray Robinson captured the Best setter award.

Next up for the Dominica men is the second leg of the World Cup Qualifiers in 2013.

These results are not a true representation of the national volleyball team’s abilities. This was a team with great potential;an excellent mix of talented young players and seasoned veteran leadership. However the team was unable to deliver and rise to the occasion when it really mattered(reasons for this remains a mysetery).
These guys have been dedicated to their sport(some for over 15 yrs) and have been able to perform @ a very high level not withstanding the extremely poor conditions under which they have to train and prepare to face opposition who readily have these facilities at their disposal(case in point.. st lucia has 2 indoor sport complexes one of which is used solely for volleyball).
Its about time that dominica’s sports men and women rise to the occassion and make their collective voices be heard on the matter of the sad state of affairs of sports in our island. we are being led by a minister of sports who really have no clue about the plight of our sports men an women, who is totally disconnected from the sporting world an hence doesnt share our passion for sports and will never place sufficient value on sports so that so that basic facilities could be put in place … we need to place these issues on the front burner and consider them as priority or we shall face the sad reality of being unable to be competetive.. even against our the neighbouring islands
All sportin associations need to come together an put a strong case forward towards the government for the need to invest in our athletes..the construction of proper sportin facilities most urgent of these is an indoor sporting complex(for volleyball basketball and netball). This could be managed an maintained by these associations and could be used to generate revenue for these associations thru gate receipts since the public will now beable to sit comfortably an view our athletes performing @ the highest level. we will also be able to host regional an international tournaments which at present we are unable to host.
Apart from this ,the necessary mechanism for identifying and nurturing raw young talent from an early age must be put in place so the our prospective ‘world beaters’ could develop and fulfill their true potential.

All I read in this article are facts why the Dominica team did not do well in the tournament. Great article DNO. Tell it like it is. These guys did not play good. Now if you tell me that lack of training facilities that made them played this way then I can understand. The great volleyballers of before would be the first to tell you if they played good or not in their time. Congratulations ray. They can’t say that the setter was bad. He got best setter of the tournament. What really happen guys.

I thought the same myself, but the article was not written by dno, as it is the same article on other sites.. This is the same guy who usually gives the coverage on Volleyball news. Also the Dca Volleyball team usually does well regionally, so please if you dont follow their victories, dont be quick to jump on their downfalls.

Really DNO? That is the best manner in which to describe your countrymen? Magwe sah. Please do better than that. These men train for long hours away from family, work and other responsibilities. They deserve a better commendation. Really distasteful commentary.

The team sucked ok? What kind of commentary you want from the PRESS RELEASE? A nice rosy story which in the end say they lost due to poor performance? Give me a break.

DNO always tells it as it is. Way to do DNO.
