Dominica Football Association to provide FIFA with sworn affidavit

John

President of the Dominica Football Association Patrick John says he is working towards having a sworn affidavit submitted to FIFA’s Ethics Committee before a 48-hour ultimatum given by the world football governing body ends today.

It is alleged that FIFA members Jack Warner and Mohamed Bin Hammam arranged payments of $40,000 (£25,000) each in cash to the 25 members of the Caribbean Football Union.

And the acting president of the embattled Caribbean Football Union (CFU), Jamaican Captain Horace Burrell, reported today that he expects all members to co-operate with investigations into bribery allegations and to comply in time to meet the 48-hour ultimatum issued by FIFA.

FIFA has given Caribbean football leaders a last chance to explain their part in the Trinidad matter.

“I haven’t had an executive meeting yet and we received a letter from the General Secretary of FIFA indicating that there will be a phase two of the investigations and they are asking that those who have not appeared before the ethics committee that we have a period of 48 hours to make contact by email. They are asking us to give knowledge about anything that transpired in Trinidad during the May conference. We have responded to them saying that we would appreciate if we would be advised as to the scope of information that is needed,” John said.

According to him the response, which was addressed to the chairman of the FIFA’s investigating committee Timothy Flin, also indicated that the DFA “with assistance from the associations legal advice  shall promptly submit a sworn affidavit relating to our knowledge of what transpired at the Trinidad meeting.”

John said the association also indicated that if the sworn affidavit is not accepted, officials could come to Dominica to receive the information needed.

PJ has already stated that the Dominica Football Association has not been the beneficiary of such a monetary gift. If affidavits are forthcoming that nonetheless PJ was a recipient of one of the brown envelopes it can only mean that he personally benefitted. Are the gifts of a computer (laptop) and a projector bribes? They most certainly are and PJ is not naive enough to realise that no favours would be required in return.

What makes this so interesting is that the draw for the World Cup Qualifiers is on saturday! But if PJ guilty of taking the bribe, he will face the life time ban not the association, the same way he should have a life time ban in Dominica for Politics!

when a ship is sinking you must know when to jump. Jack Warner has jumped. He cannot help us in fifa anymore. Our DFA should have cooperated with the investigation and avoid sanctions. Grenada was smarter than us. They told fifa yes we took the money but we already spend 39k.

Mr John, just submit what you were asked for. there is no time for delays. This will cause a lack of confidence in you on the part of the Dominican public.
I trust that you and DFA are in the clear and above reproach, so go ahead and do what is asked of you by FIFA.

its funny out of 25 CFU countries, 9 say (and provided evidence) of bribery taking place, and the rest deny it. The way i view things- if only one country had provided sufficient evidence then that woulda been enough. The thing is the lie has got to the point that if the other countries admit they accepted bribes then they’ll most likely get the same punishment as if they deny till the very end. Hence i’m not surprised that everyone is keeping to their story-

Dominica and most of the Caribbean Islands don’t have professional soccer leagues and therefore is not generating any income when the game is played on the island. However, it is estimated that DFA has an operating budget of over half a million with the President of DFA making close $200K annually. Therefore most of DFA’s income comes from FIFA itself, my question to Mr. John and the Presidents of the other Caribbean football associations is, why would you get yourself involve in a bribe of $40K? Common, $40K for your vote? 8% of your operating budget? The offer itself is disrespectful to you and did you think of the consequences. If Dominica is involve we would expect nothing less than Mr. John stepping down from office.

The truth shall set you free…… It is time everyone be truthfull and move on. FIFA is one of the most corrupt organisations and is dealing with many small countries and people with not much resources. Bribery is the name of the game in so many aspects of life and business, its not new or uncommon. It is simply fact.

Jamaica and Barbados have already replied to fifa maintaining their position that no money was offered. The DFA should stop playing games with fifa and state their position. Fifa made it easy for all associations to give evidence. They ask everyone to suggest a time and place for interviews. Four associations including DFA never responded. If we keep wasting time to sanctions will be grave

    • Football critic
      July 27, 2011

It is easy to reply and state one’s position saying that they did not receive any money. But FIFA already has evidence that envelopes of money were given to the CFU Association Members. You are correct by stating that Dominica did not respond to the investigations. What does the DFA has to hide by not attending the investigation. Time only will tell.

I FEEL SORRY FOR PEOPLE LIKE MR. P.JOHN AND MANY OF THE CARIBBEAN OFFICIALS WHO HAVE BEEN CAUGHT-UP IN THIS FIFA MAFIA CABAL. WHAT FIFA IS DOING, IS TO PUT THE BLAME ON THE POORER COUNTRIES WHO DEPEND ON THEM MOST , JUST TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THEIR BUSSINESS AS USUAL CORRUPT PRACTISES.

DELEGATES OF FIFA HAVE BEEN PAYING OFF EACH OTHER FOR DECADES, SO NOW THAT SEPP BLATTER WAS EFFECTIVELY AND COMPETITIVELY CHALLENGED, HE IS NOW BRINGING OUT HIS FORMER COLLEGUES DIRTY LAUNDRY IN THE OPEN. BUT HE KNOWS THIS IS THE “CULTURE” IN FIFA FOR YEARS NOW.
SO JACK WARNER AND M.BEN HIEM SHOULD EXPOSE THESE CROOKS FOR WHO THEY ARE. AS THE PRESIDENT OF ARGENTINA F.A SAID,” THE BIG COUNTRIES LIKE ENGLAND ARE USING THEIR POWER IN THE MEDIA TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE LITTLE ONE WHO DID NOT VOTE FOR THEM FOR THE WORLD CUP OF 2022.” SHAME ON THEM.
P.J I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE HARD AND THANK LESS JOB YOU HAVE BEEN DOING IN DFA. I SUPPORT YOU FULLY.

    • Football critic
      July 27, 2011

I could not agree more with your comments. FIFA has been giving pay offs for many years and Blatter felt the heat in the last election. Warner had CFU member associations going to vote for Bin Hamman, but the payments to CFU members were leaked. Therefore, in total agreement with you, Bin Hamman should openly admit that he did pay the CFU Member Associaations US$40,000.00 each.

      July 27, 2011

One thing, you can’t feel sorry for persons who knew they were receiving money as a bribe for voting

With all due respect, what are you talking about, garcon. We all know that these affairs can be politically influenced. Does that abdicate DA’s rep (PJ) from providing requested information? Are you saying that we should play the cat and mouse game to see whether we have more or less to gain? This is not about Tra la la. It is about right and wrong. It is a simple question: Did our hand get in the cookie jar, close to it, or remained in our pockets?
