Dominica’s senior football team performed disappointingly in front a huge home crowd on Wednesday night, going down to St. Lucia in the opening match of the Windward Islands Football Competition at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.
The team was beaten 2-0 by St. Lucia.
Galon Neptune gave St Lucia a dream start in the 5th minute of play when he got a throw pass and made a mistake by kicking the ball over the goalkeeper.
Eden Charles put St Lucia up 2-0 when Dominica made a defensive mistake and goalkeeper error in the 47th minute of play.
Dominica immediately got the opportunity to score in the 4th minute of the second half when the team was awarded a penalty.
However, the penalty was missed and so was a number of easy scoring opportunities.
Meanwhile St Lucia played with only 10 players for the majority of the second half since one of the team players was sent off because of dangerous play.
Dominica will have to play much better in the next match against St Vincent on Friday evening to have any chance of winning the football competition.
St Lucia will play Grenada in their first match on Friday at 5pm.
In one of the first matches played in the competition on Wednesday, St. Vincent and Grenada played to a 0-0 draw.
Success in any sport is deeply rooted in discipline, and that is what our players lack. How can we ever have a dream team when our young people do not abstain from toying with drugs and alcohol? How can we ever achieve our goals when the players are not intrinsically motivated to practise daily ? How can we ever win if players are disrespectful to each other as well as those in authority? How can we win if the coaches are inept in training the players? Remember ,guys, that winning and discipline go hand in hand.
It is a sad but true fact that our Dominican team would be beaten soundly by most of the NCAA Division One college teams in the US. However, with that said, I who played football competitively as a youngster probably would have a hard time earning a roster spot on the current Dominican team. Fellas, just continue to prepare yourself fully to give your best for self and country.
Dem Dominica team needs to wake up and show what we are made of .go team D/A
I was at the game and i saw a great deal of POTENTIAL from the Dominica team. They dominated possession and creating far more chances than st lucia.. the critical area which is lacking in our football is finishing..our strikers lack that cutting edge and composure infront of goal.some how the coaches an football administrators need to come up with a plan for adressing this moving forward.
this has been dominicas national soccer teams main problem for years, past and present, even in the days ervin, roho, cocoshu, name all dominica past greats, show me their records and you will see how many times dominica win regional championships, dominica best soccer games has been played here at home, against their own’s,in the likes of harlem vs kensborough,up till now i cannot believe the crap them man does play against foreign teams.
What do you expect when there isn’t NOT ONE PLAYER from the champion team from Possie. This Roseau-centric selection policy is what is killing the football
Dominica was once a power house in Caribbean Football. Please do not just put down our team. We are in a different era and probably we need to change gears, but our team must be encouraged. Persevere please team DA.
The problem is that DOminica comes together to train as a team ONE MONTH FOR 4 WEEKENDS before the competition. You cannot expect to play as a successful team this way. Even If the players may be excellent as individual players, they must learn the dynamics of each other in order to be successful…4 training sessions and one 4 days in the same hotel immediately before the competition WILL NOT WORK!
Once again,i am sorry to ear this same song: dominica not competitive…..I have been offering for years Now to assist having been in it for some time in one of the caribbean power house,. But my offers seem to be falling in death ears. Sometimes one needs help . its a national interest (pride)matter the image sent out to the world.we ne to stop playing it small and pût the means if we are serious about that
Someone correct me if i’m wrong but has the Dominica senior national team won ant matches in that stadium??????. Smh

Sad and painful to watch, much talk but not delivering, is that our nature now? I will still support D/CA. cause if they continue to play” frightened Football”, they will loose all their matches. We go see, good luck on Friday.
Well this is why we need to do less talking and invest in the kids from a very young age like from 5 yrs onward and never bailing out on them.
The level and quality of football remains mediocre compared to most other FIFA countries; however, in no way should that be allowed to diminish our love and passion for the game. Admittedly, the return in terms of winning have not been very positive in the recent past, but with more investment, better tactical and technical training, and continued fan support our young men will raise the level of their game.
Dominicans obsessed with football.
Just accept all you don’t have the skills.
Always being beaten and going nowhere.
yet still is they that always talking bout a man-u, chelsea, etc…and they cant even bend it like beckham.
rolling my D@mn eyes. get a clue wannabe rooneys!
and by the time they reach half field they tired already…. no endurance…
So very mean.
Mia Ham you are so correct even before I saw your comment that is the same thing I was saying to a friend of mine. Every time you pass fellas always talking about a Chelsea, Man-U and they eh worth a sh…..t. Them man cannot even kick a ball. Imagine I watch fellas afraid to tackle and when is local fott ball they want to break one another leg.
Lmao.
Come on now, that’s not fair.
I am a St. Lucia on vacation in Dominica and perhaps they were intimidated by our players.
lol..
But your comment is Hilarious. lol
Hilarious comment.
Hahahahhaaaaaaaaa. lol
Classic comment.
You must be very intelligent.
@Mia Ham – Very well said. Dominicans can mainly talk football not play it. Dominica’s problem with football goes down to the basics. Just look at how these guys play football (whether in practice or a real match)…….it’s just haphazard kicking of the ball hoping it reaches another teammate. There’s no or hardly any formation or sequence or artistry to their play.
I repeat, Dominicans just know how to play football in their minds and commentate on what the expert footballers should and should not do; the bulk of footballers in this country are lacking badly in football skills that will make them competitive.
These football players in Dominica Wotlessss..i agree with mia….ham.manu chelsea my big toe.if these teams were to see our Dominicans players in action they would laugh their a** off.come on guys take a seat and just keep sitting dont bother to get up.
Why aren’t the footballers from Portsmouth playing? hmmm bess Dominica… again an again…hm
Of course we are wannabe Rooneys, they are the elite professionals in our chosen fields, what, you would rather us be cynics like you and accept we will never learn their skill, or hypocritical like you calling us wannabes while at the same time giving yourself the name of a professional soccer player “mia ham”. You don’t think the Lucians, Vincentians, Grenadians etc do the same thing, alwayz ready to diss your own people.
Go roll ya d@rn eyez at urself for disrespecting ya own folks.
Id……
