There is a likelihood that Dominica could host of one of the Limacol Caribbean Premiere League (CPL) T-20 cricket matches in the future but this year customers of local cable company, SAT will be catching all the live action at no additional cost.

“It is very much a possibility,” said CEO of CPL, Damien O’Donohoe of Dominica hosting one of the matches.

He told a video news conference at SAT’s main office on Wednesday that contact has been made by the government on the matter.

“The Prime Minister of Dominica has made contact with someone from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and we see the appetite in Dominica,” he stated, pointing out it was agreed that a delegation from Dominica will visit St. Kitts for one of the matches

“And maybe an opening of discussions from September,” O’Donohoe said.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is a franchise-based T20 format cricket tournament that combines two of the most compelling aspects of Caribbean life: dramatic cricket and a vibrant Carnival atmosphere.

It runs from July 11th to August 16th (17th, reserved day) 2014, will begin with the opening in Grenada and the semi-finals and finals held in St. Kitts.

A number of Caribbean venues have been selected to host the matches including Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Trinidad and Tobago.

However, Dominica has been left out of the action, despite having a world class cricket stadium.

SAT has been selected as the exclusive broadcaster of CPL in Dominica, according to its Media Manager Marie-Antoinette Mora.

“SAT will be carrying the CPL live and free to all customers and not just that we are the official and exclusive broadcaster in the Dominican market,” she said.

CPL was launched last year to sell-out crowds, with over 250,000 spectators attending matches from across the Caribbean. Thirty-six million viewers from around the world watched the matches on TV.

The inaugural CPL featured six teams competing throughout the region including Jamaica Tallawahs, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St. Lucia Zouks, and Antigua Hawksbills.

The Jamaica Tallawahs, captained by Chris Gayle, emerged as champions last year.

I would love that as long as we don’t end up subsidising it.

Bouyon is just bouyon, a mess with a lot of noise. Not for intelligent people and certainly not for people that want to enjoy their cricket. Go and play your bouyon in the bush.

    Windsor Park (Dominica)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The ground was named after Windsor, England and is situated on the eastern side of Roseau. It was levelled out of a rubbish dump previously known as Cow Town. It was a popular venue for sports of all kinds, carnival activities, horse and donkey racing, State parades and played a central role in island life. In 1999 a national stadium was planned for the site, but after demolishing all of the existing stands and adjoining buildings, including a former school that had once been wards of the Roseau Hospital, the project was abandoned and the site was deserted until 2005.

New work on the stadium started on 23 March 2005, on the first anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and Dominica. The stadium is one of the ‘Four Pillar Projects’ promised by the People’s Republic of China to Dominica as a result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during the establishment of ties between Dominica and China. The stadium is viewed as a gift at a cost of EC$33 million, (US$17 million, €12 million), from the government of the People’s Republic of China to the government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
While Skerrit and the dlp will try to take credit for Windor Park, it is clear according to the above history, that work began in 1999 by the UWP, but the project was abandoned and deserted by the DLP until 2005.

I hope we will be successful in our bid to t one of these matches. Looking forward to that. Good move by the government. Is there anyway we can sonsor a team? Please don’t tell me about government. Government alone cannot do it all. Private sector will you be willing to consider the move in patnership with the Government? put your politics aside and let’s make Dominica and Dominicans proud.
