Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) facilitated leaders of the Surfing Association in Guadeloupe with their decision to host a surfing event on the island.
DDA and the Surfing Association conducted several site visits to select the area best suited for surfing and also for housing the students and their families. Guadeloupe organizer Cedric Peron informed that, “It would only make sense that Dominica be the destination for this event since it is strategically located between the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique where the groups originate.”
A total of 80 participants (50 males and 30 females) from surfing clubs in both Guadeloupe and Martinique will be competing for two days at the December 28-29 event. This is the third year for this annual event and this year it will be held on the shores of Calibishie on the north-east of the island.
Colin Piper, CEO/Director of Tourism comments: “This is exactly the type of exchange that we would like to encourage as we seek to develop more avenues for growth in the tourism industry. The development of sports tourism and the exchange between islands is something which can bring much needed revenue to a destination as well as to form relationships.”
The groups from Guadeloupe and Martinique are expected to arrive on December 26 and 27, respectively, and will depart by the end of the month. The event is opened to the public for viewing and there will be chances to win great prizes in the raffles. Access to the event will be on the Point Baptiste Road (on-foot). The organizers are looking to raffle Tommy Hilfiger bags and even surfboards.
Tickets for the raffle will be on sale at Calibishie during the event from December 28-29 with the draw taking place at 5 pm on December 29. The surfing awards to the competitors will be presented from 4:30 pm on December 29. With the success of this event it is expected that the destination will be looking to host more events such as these in the near future.
The Discover Dominica Authority continues to work towards increasing the numbers of visitors calling to our shores – one of its two mandates – and the Authority is always eager to work with groups such as these in an effort to augment Dominica’s tourism product offering. With the increase of visitors it is expected that visitor expenditure will also increase through services rendered and taxes paid.
I think that this is and will be a wonderful event for all Dominicans to enjoy! Whether you like the sport or not, support your Country in everything positive that is being done to help promote Dominica and improve the economy!
Many people say( even some Dominicans) that Dominicans are backward….what do those people have to say now?
A piece of advice to those persons….Learn to appreciate and promote your Country. Speak well of Dominica because it isn’t worst than any other Country you know! Lets be more positive and stop pulling each other and our Country down.
Some of you negative people are the ones who talk trash about Dominica to visitors…. Giving other people things to talk about. Yet you won’t leave ….what does that say about you?
You mean like not telling them about those rip tides that exist in that place?
I’m sure they No That! They are surfing for christ sake they must survey the place first
nice, surf’s up !!! this is awesome…i’m pretty stoked just by the idea…
That is a wonderful gesture, but please put in place a quick respond medical team on site as this sport is prone to accidents and have a water rescue team available. Good luck and I hope to see more sporting events in Dominica, this is an excellent sport for young men and women.

The beach is to calm there for such sporting event and the road to the beach is not so good since after hurricane Tomas and not enough parking sport unless you want to walk the 25min. walk from the main road. It happens to be my favorite spot to bathe every sunday.
am talking about NO 1 beach…..the black sand beach..the one where pirates of the caribbean was flim
MOT is better you exchange your status.
Goodf stuff..we need more events like this in D/A…
nice move let them come
Mouth of the South is another of infected un-wanted Plague (uwp) members
Always angry, filled with hatred.
GREAT MOVE!!!!!!!!! More exposure for my little Paradise i call my home AND THAT I ALWAYS WELCOME.
wow thats good,,,wish i could go up dere,,,,but i wonder if they’ll enjoy our small waves
stupess…u always dere with something negative to say…u gave a compliment u should have left it at that
one ting give me white ppl everyday eh… black ppl too like to bring down each other & themselves.
Are u insinuating that Martinique & Guadaloupe have better waves than d/a, which is coincindentally right between them.
I could not agree with you more. This is a very good initiative on the part of Discover Dominica. We have some wonderful surf on the east coast.
hhhhmmmmm i smell a racist that not comfortable in his/her own skin,,,,no i’m not insinuating martinique & guadeloupe have better waves,,,,in fact they really do,,,i did not mean no harm but allu jump on my back lol,,,,its the truth we don’t have large waves,,,,once a blue u see them,,,during a storm only we see huge waves
Mouth-Of-The-South: Boy is either you like noticing or you just too damn sort! Get out of the south, and head north, you will find a village called Mahaut. Continue driving, you will find many more villages, like Layou, Salisbury, Portsmouth. Doh worry, you will not fall off the end of the Earth, this is still Dominica. After a few hours of driving and meeting the natives, you will find villages like Calibishie, Hamstead, Woodfordhill, and if you make it that far, maybe one day you will find lovely places like Castle Bruce, Laplain and Rosalie.
All those places have the same sea, sand, wind, and coastline which are available in Martinique and Guadeloupe naturally. So dont be so stupid and think that those islands have something special that blessing them with BIG waves. Dominica have BIG waves too, your damn fool!
shut up and Enjoy the news…u just making urself worst by trying to justify ur negativity which isn’t working
This has to be the most ignorant stupid idiotic and retarded thing I have seen on the Internet for the year. Give you white ppl? Man go back in ur hole. Go move to Russia or something.
AGREED 100%
It looking like mouth of the south is uncomfortable with his self why he is always being negative. LOL
Boi U can say that again… wi should air that on the radios also! I just Cannot understand Them People ehh
Keep looking at your small waves “bouche”! We have a big heart!!
Way to go Dominica!
Hopefully the tourism industry can seize on this and use that as another thing to promote Dominica!
