Dominican bikers make waves in St. Lucia

Those who took part in the event

The Dominica Bikers made history once again by traveling to St. Lucia with their bikes for the second time.

This time it was for St. Lucia 39th Independence celebration.

While it was anticipated that a contingent from Dominica would not make this trip because of the damage cause by hurricane Maria, they were able to put together a large contingent of 20 bikes (18 bikes, 2 ATVs).

The bikers chartered local boat owner and captain Mr. Neville Wade from Portsmouth in an effort to keep the business local.

Departure commenced on Wednesday, February 21st from the Portsmouth berth.

Upon arrival in Vieux Fort, St. Lucia it was evident that the Dominica contingent intended to make a statement throughout their stay.

They awakened the city of Vieux Fort on arrival with bystanders in amazement at the display of colorful and well maintained motorcycles.

Next, Castries was awakened by the bikers as they make sure that the city recognized that Dominica was finally there.

Throughout the rest of the week, it was evident that wherever Dominica was, that was the place to be. While they participated in most of the events throughout the week, it wasn’t until the weekend that the final nail in the coffin was set to say that not only was Dominica there, but they came strong, resilient and ready for action.

Sunday was the Drag Wars at the base drag strip in Vieux Fort. A smaller group attended the drag event and made a profound statement against the competition from other islands. Dominica won most of the races they participated in during their time on the drag. This is a great milestone, considering that there are no drag strips or areas for Dominican bikers to practice or fine-tune their skills in order to compete, yet still, they were amongst the best performers of the day.

Next and lastly was the Supermoto race and stunt exhibition in the city of Castries. Dominica had no participants in the races but participated in stunt exhibition where they completely stole the show. The crowd was in a frenzy at every instant the Dominicans performed.

At the commencement of the event, you could hear the crowd screaming for the Dominicans to continue. At the afterparty on the boulevard in Castries, Dominica put on a final show, draping a young lady in a large Dominican Flag while one of the ATVs made circles around her. This cemented Dominica’s performance as a complete SHELL DOWN of the St. Lucian Independence celebration.

This entire trip has been encapsulated by the contingents traveling local Vlogger (Mystellics) of MystProductionz. Videos of the trip can be viewed on his youtube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/user/MystProductionz

This trip was not just a trip for bikers, it was a time to display the many talents in the Dominica autosports industry.

Surprisingly to the bikers, they realized the trip was bigger than them, it was an empowerment and encouragement for those Dominican who fled after Hurricane Maria, the tourists who are still interested in the island but unsure of its true condition.

All in all, it showed the outside world the resilience of Dominicans and Dominica as a whole, to return after Hurricane Maria in such a big way as to steal the show on foreign land while promoting the use of safety gear and good riding.

It is anticipated that next year, an even larger contingent will be traveling, while also encouraging other islands to visit Dominica as well.

My father was a passionate motor cyclist, and pedal cyclist. He rode all the classic motor cycles of seventy five years ago. But in his time there was no showing off but a pride in being respected by other road users.

This is where our motor cyclists have to place their effort, and not by tearing past me on the near side under Canefield Cliff.

I don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade, but we need to keep things in perspective. If you guys can travel to St. Lucia and do your thing, then more power to you. I certainly wish I had that opportunity when I was your age.

All we are saying is that you need to put safety ahead of anything you do. I know a lot of bikers who have been killed in DA. A few were guys I went to school with. It is not worth it to lose a limb or your life doing something that is supposed to be fun.

    Have fun but be safe.

There is nothing to celebrate here. I saw video clips of these guys and if they keep doing these stunts and drag racing without proper safety gear, as they are prone to, I can bet a couple will not be alive to make the trip in future years. Safety is a foreign word to these bikers.

I wish them the best, but they need to put their safety ahead of trying to impress other people.

      March 7, 2018

You bet some of us wouldn’t make it for the nxt trip and in contradiction to that you saying you wishing us the best. Jah boy. Satan will always be jealous of God

Nonsense. One of them didnt crash and almost kill himself ? These fools think they are so cool. most of them need to get a life and find something worthwhile to do like reading a book at least. Nothing wrong with riding, but with the number of bike deaths we have year in year out, lets see which one of them is next.

    • CAP
      March 6, 2018

People like you is the reason why our mindset needs to change. We fail to see the positive in anything and only see the negative. Instead of say what you just did why not suggest something like being more cautious, or encourage the general biking public to wear protective gear. Or how about encouraging motourist to respect bikes on the road? Have you any idea of the foriegn exchange this activity does for islands like St Lucia, Antigua, St vincent etc… Are you aware that the international motoring show Top Gear was recently in Barbados filming a segment there? Think of what this kind of activity can do for Dominica. And be more positive. Thanks.

        March 6, 2018

As a fellow biker i must say that “cap” makes a lot of practical sense and the possibilities are endless for where things can go in the future for us as bikers here on the island. we need support and we need the heads to know what we can do and what is possible given the opportunity !!

      • priorities
        March 6, 2018

YOu arec speaking about things that didnt benefit dominica. How does riding in st lucia benefit dominica if Top Gear was in Barbados? This was just a free up for local bikers. Most likely they were at the race course checking out a rally which they normally do. We have no track here plus all our roads are a waste. Why dont these wana be’s and joiners do something to improve our economy or even to pave a road? they rather be showing off in St. Lucia. Not surprised.

        March 6, 2018

This “Priorities” person exhumes ignorance to levels that baffles me to the highest degree. The fact that you cannot see how it benefits the country, or how this industry benefits the country, or your generalization that these bikers need to read seems so hypocritical coming from someone who, (by your own words and comment) comes off as highly shallow minded. As a biker who was on the trip, you must first be informed before spewing vast ignorance in the hope of seeming intelligent or forward thinking. This trip was not at easy one to put together, Mr. wade’s past is irrelevant to the bikers going on the trip, it is very much unrelated. Also the assumption that the bikers are dumb and spewing signs that would get them hurt in other places is based on ur assumption that they are untravelled.

This trip was made up of young men from all walks of life, Lawyers, accountants, businessmen, graphic designers, store owners, managers, mechanics etc. stop disrespecting people with…

I think I need to meet you in person. To see who is the fool speaking behind all of this. I have never seen this level of stupidity. No matter what you do and where you do it. There is always a reason and a cause. There is always something or someone to be represented. You need to find out how motor sports help and assist the upbringing of other countries. Need to ask a question before you just make assumptions and bring your negativity into this Era. You are one of those foolish people that doesn’t know better.
