Dominica’s women qualify for Caribbean Volleyball Championships

The Dominica national Women’s Volleyball team placed second in the eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Volleyball Championships which were held at the Beausejour Indoor facility in St. Lucia, from June 24th to 27th  thereby qualifying for the Caribbean Volleyball Championships to be held in Suriname, in August..

The Dominican women went down to St. Kitts in the finals on Sunday night, in what was described as an exciting and grueling five-setter, with the fifth set going to 19 -17.

Earlier, on Saturday night Dominica had defeated Antigua in the semi-final stage of the tournament in straight sets (25-17; 25-23; 25-21).

On its way to the semi-finals, the team defeated Grenada in straight sets (25-16; 25-21; 25-14), and Anguilla 3 sets to 2 (25-22; 23-25; 25-22; 27-29 and 15-10).

St. Lucia, which had earlier defeated Dominica in the preliminary round of the competition lost in its semi-final encounter with St. Kitts, and had to settle for third place in the tournament.

Antigua placed fourth, ahead of Anguilla, St. Martin, Grenada and St. Vincent.

The team is expected to arrive in Dominica on Monday; and will immediately resume training in preparation for its participation in the CAZOVA (Caribbean Zone) Championships, to be held in August in Suriname.

I was at that game I saw our ladies fight with so much pride to the last ball. I felt good sitting at that game and cheering for my island home. Our ladies played a good game and St. Kitts really had to fight for that win.

After the game drew at the 4th set I saw the determination in both teams and the crowd cheered for DA.

    Congratulations Team.
