Entire West Indies selection panel fired

Robert Haynes, new West Indies coach (r)

The entire West Indies selection panel has been fired by the new administration and a three-man committee will select the regional team for the upcoming International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup in England, the Trinidad Guardian has reported.

Newly elected president of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Ricky Skerritt made the announcement at a press conference on Thursday in Antigua, that there is a new coach taking the team to the World Cup and also a new selection panel will be picking that squad.

Barbadian Floyd Reifer will replace Richard Pybus as coach of the regional team. Reifer comes in to replace Pybus before the Englishman’s contract ends. He was contracted by the previous administration until the end of the Indian series in the Caribbean in August.

Dominican, Lockhart Sebastien was a member of the selection panel that was fired.

I heard Nanton make how much case for himself. Even saying he has been an adviser to the PM for how many years as a reason why he should have still been the head of West Indian Cricket. I think we should do the same thing with our local “sports heads”, starting with the Minister for Sports. What has she done for any sport in Dominica for the past years? Majority of them are useless and need to go sit down somewhere. The best thing we could have done for sports was to elect Dunstan Peters as DABA president. IF i could make him the Minister for Sports in Dominica i would because he has the skill, the passion and the connection to the youth. I would scrap that Olympic Committee. Set of old man that used to play sports 20 30 years ago that fighting for position, meanwhile they cannot even lobby for better facilities for our national athletes. Half of them are politically motivated in any case so i dont expect much. Anyway im glad we will have West Indian selectors selecting West indians

I think this is terrible news. West Indies gave England a real fight this year and the team is clearly moving in the right direction under a good young captain. That a change of administration could wreck the fragile progress that the team was making is saddening to me. In the end we still have not up to terms with the fact the the 1976-1995 team was massively over achieving given our talent pool and resources and to keep discarding any regime which doesn’t match that level of achievement before they can work out a sustainable path to success is a mistake. In today’s hugely changed environment of big money 20-20 leagues around the world sucking talent away form national teams , we need to be more respectful of the gains West Indies make. We will see what happens over the next few years… but I am not filled with hope.

As someone residing in the US, I welcome the move because You cannot put “New wine in old bottles.” You cannot have the same selectors that helped Cameron and Nanthan(C&N) destroy our cricket selecting a team that campaigned against evil of C&N.
In America when we replace the President the incoming President comes in with a completely new cabinet to push his vision even if is the new president takes over from someone from his own party. If the incoming president sees people from the previous administration that is willing to push his agenda then he may keep them. I think that’s why we are not making progress in the Caribbean because all we change is politicians and keep the dream killers like the police chief and his leaders, the president, election commissioner and PSes. No we need to change all of them so we could embrace the vision of the new team. Instead of Sebo talking his nonsense on Q95, he should show himself as a candidate that could work with the new team. I welcome it

As a proud Dominican and avid cricket enthusiast, I was saddened to read of the recent sacking of Nanthan and Sebastien. As a practical individual who abhors the insularity that has been a hallmark of the selective process and poor administration in West Indies cricket, I fully understand the need for change when those in leadership fail to produce tangible results. The West Indies, with its admirable and proud cricket legacy, need to take the required process improvement steps to rally and rise to top of the cricketing world again. Barely qualifying for the 2019 World Cup, producing inconsistent results across all formats and being regularly man-handled by traditional cricketing minnows should have raised alarms long ago. Let us hope that the new regime will usher in a new era of dominance in West Indies cricket.

I could NEVER NEVER NEVER understand why previous administration DISMISSED/DISCHARGED Mr Floyd Reifer. We lost in Bangladesh but if you understand CRICKET you could see that the Team is moving in tight direction . The captain wasn’t available and a WEST INDIES team right now without HOLDER\ROACH/ GABRIEL isn’t a team!!!…we have a great COACH in Mr Reifer and dam lucky to be BLESSED with our CAPTAIN..Thank YOU Mr Skerritt ( Very Wise Man )..I honestly think we will RULE the world again..Big up JIMMY ADAMS also for INPUT!!! We still have work to with our number openers ( Brathwaite .Class Act but LAZY ATTITUDE..Campbell need to understand that; Rome NUH build in ONE DAY ,!! Otherwise the FOUNDATION Weak !!!…/ WEST INDIES BIGGEST. WEAKNESS IS THE …Vice Captain ROLE ..My. Choice ( CHASE ..100% CHASE for the JOB…

I think that was a good move because if the tree is sick and infected you need must uproot it with it’s roots to deal with the matter. Yesterday on Q95 I heard some negative comments on sports wrap by Sybo and co but we need to be consistent. How can we get rid of our senior cricketers because they walked out from a tour in protest against I’ll treatment and these same damn hypocrites want public servants to shutdown the country in protest against I’ll treatment of Skerrit? I bet if UWP forms the next government Charles Savarin, Carbon and leadership of the police would be sacked at the earliest opportunity. So Sebo and Ossie in particular must stop being bashful and double standard man. DNO I called names because they were on the radio with their hypocrisy, especially Sebo. I wish the new leadership of West Indies well and I do hope our cricket will be restored man.

He is still not as brutal as Roosevelt Skerrit who discarded 13 of his MISLEADERS an replaced them with 13 novices.
Let’s see how it works out in the medium to long term ..When a leader lacks leadership skills he feels uneasy with skilled or intellectual people around him.
    Skerrit Must Go
    Skerrit Must Go
    LAZY Skerrit Must Go Now

    • April 12, 2019

Still at zero chasing your tail. You have a man crush in Skerrit, get a life!!! This is sports not politics, try talking about something else besides Skerrit.

Well said. I suspect this guy probably had a crush on the PM’s wife but she chose to marry Skerrit instead, so he bitter! bitter! bitter! I also suspect Skerrit better looking and more intelligent and definitely richer than him. I also suspect that he might be a RoRo so he definitely cannot fit in Skerrit’s shoes.
