A top FIFA official has given the Glen Etienne-led executive of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) top marks for its managerial skills and development of football on the island.
Howard McIntosh, FIFA’s development officer responsible for the South Eastern Caribbean region, said he was “pleased with the progress of the Goal II Project which is ongoing at Stock Farm.”
“I have been on island for the past few days and besides going to Portsmouth and Grand Bay to view matches, I along with the executive of the DFA had an extensive on site meeting and the purpose of that was not only to view the project, but to discuss possibilities,” he said.
According to him, while a few things need ironing out, he thinks the project is expected to be in the final stage of completion by December, 2014.
“All the money for the Goal II project is approved, so it’s not a money problem… all the funding for other projects has been approved, and the DFA is doing what is necessary,” McIntosh noted. “I am very happy with the member association and FIFA is very happy with what is happening with Dominica Football.”
He continued “We are happy to see a stable member association in the DFA, we are happy to see a united executive and we are happy to see a level of planning taking place. Football cannot be developed in any country without a proper collaboration between the football association, the government, sponsors and the media.”
DFA President Glen Etienne said he was pleased at the work made so far despite a few “challenges” and pledged to continue working for the development of the sport on the island.
Contractor for the project is JARS Ltd of Steve Astaphan.
He said while they have a few “issues” the company is working hard and in collaboration with the DFA to see the smooth completion of the project.
“A top FIFA official has given the Glen Etienne-led executive of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) top marks for its managerial skills and development of football on the island.” I wonder what he means by such a statement. Since Glen Etienne took over the DFA, the standard of footbal has dropped. This FIFA Official must be dreaming to say such. For example, since the start of football this season, not one match has ever started on time, as players come when they want. So much to be said but I guess I would need a full page to write my dissatisfaction.
where has the best football field in Dominica? Apart from stadium? How has the football association addressed the issue of a lack of facilities island wide? How have local clubs been encouraged and supported to develop (technical and financial assistance). How has the Dominican National Team improved over the years? why has Dominica not excelled in regional competitions? I love football but have not been up to date on the local football scene. Can anyone answer these questions for me. Thanks.
