FIFA World Cup at no extra cost

FIFACable television customers of both Marpin and SAT do not have to pay any additional cost to watch the 20thstaging of the FIFA World Cup from June 12th to July 13th 2014.

The highly anticipated event, which will take place in Brazil this year, will have football fans all over the globe glued to their television screen to catch every action.

Both companies announced their position via a news release on Monday.

“Marpin 2K4 now has the Liberty to offer all its customers the FIFA World Cup Games FREE of Charge,” the release said. “All our Subscribers will have access to viewing the games starting June 12th to July 13th 2014; FIFA Match Schedule will be available from our Roseau Office,” a release from the company stated.

In explaining the release, Sales and Marketing Executive at Marpin 2k4 Ltd Chantal Charles-Winston said the decision, which was made because of a clause which they overlooked, will cost the company over US$ 55,000 to absorb.

“As we said we overlooked a clause in the contract, so it does not allow us to sell it via pay per view for customers. So therefore we had to have the FIFA now free of charge, but the cost for the FIFA still remains and Marpin is absorbing that cost,” she said.

The company had been promoting the FIFA package on Friday afternoons outside its Great Marlborough Street location in Roseau.

When DNO asked about the status of customers who had already bought the FIFA package to watch the games, Charles-Winston informed that they had already done damage control.

“It depends on the customers deal, we had a one on one with the customer. We explained, and our customers are now satisfied with what we did.”

Meantime, Digicel owned SAT Telecoms and Broadcasting also announced that they will be offering the games at no cost to SAT customers.

Via a news release, CEO of Sat Telecommunications Richard Stanton, said, “We know how that our customers are eagerly anticipating the start of the World Cup – one of the biggest sporting competitions in the world – and we don’t want them to miss any of the action. By giving them the chance to watch all the matches for free we are ensuring that our customers will be able to enjoy the 2014 World Cup – at no additional charge.”

The tournament begins on the 12thJune and ends with the finals on the 13th July 2014.

This is the link for the song in the M & M Chocolate Brazil 2014 world cup commercial promotion –

Portsmouth Cultural Groupe: Adults Dancing Heel & Toe – Dominica Folk Dance

The first song on the video is in the commercial.
There is also a Zouk song with the music in it. Did Ophelia Marie sing the Zouk version?

I’ve heard it several times, unfortunately, I can’t remember the name. Does anyone know the name of the song and who sang it.
Why, oh, why, is M & M crediting Brazil with this?

Ministry of Culture in Dominica please investigate this unfair situation!

Has anyone seen the new M & M advertisement featuring authentic Dominican Zouk Music?

Shame on M & M makers for accrediting the music to Brazilian Samba Music.

M & M marketing & advertising department, please stop this masquerading!

Actually this had nothing to do with competition. It is all about rights in the broadcast of the games. Marpin like SAt is a cable TV operator. Te broadcast rights for these games are usually sold to the TV stations whose signals MARPIN and SAt relay. The Cable operators in Dominica would normally not have the rights to resell the programmes (games) to the public. Most likely the fact that MARPIN had no right to engage in a pay per view operation was brought to the company’s attention by the TV company who has broadcast rights for the Caribbean.

If the company had in fact engaged in a pay per view operation the legal liability would be much higher than the US$55000.00 which they now claim they must pay without being able to directly collect any more fees from subscribers. Just speculating of course.

Competition is Healthy. One company would not look good charging their customers when the other gives it for FREE.

Heads must roll at Marpin 2k4. The company forced its staff to accept a 10% wage cut in order to assist it cope with financial challenges, and now we are hearing it has to absorb US$55,000 because someone did not read the FIFA contract properly? This is BS; it cannot be accepted, Something visibly has to be done to the Exec who did not do his job properly, otherwise staff members should demand the restoration of their wages. The Board of Directors at Marpin 2k4 should go back to the DEF strategist and get him to deal with this erring Exec. Staff and customers refuse to accept this major blunder.
